Tangled Fates

At the break of dawn a perfect beauty stood at the end of a cliff. Back towards the edge and hands held out, her face was full of determination. She knew what she was doing. She closed her eyes and with a deep breath fell backwards.

A breeze went upwards and downwards and then everything went silent. The girl felt a thud as her back smoothly hit the ground. The fall was too short and the landing too soft. Has she even fallen? Is she really dead that she cannot feel the pain? To answer herself the girl opened her eyes. She first saw the blinding sun and then the surroundings. She was shocked to see that she was lying on the cliff. She stood up and dusted her blue faded denim. She straightened her translucent white top. Tying her brown hair with a ruffle and shifting her bag, she looked back at the edge and evaluated the idea of trying again. She was confused because of the unexplainable failure.

How could she have fallen on the cliff when she was just centimeters away from the edge?

"Hello there, you okay?" came a man's voice as he emerged from the woods behind. The girl turned around.

"Ya. I am just hanging around!" she said trying to sound innocent.

"Well if I may, this is not a place to hang!"

"And exactly who are you to say this?" she asked arrogantly.

"Oh sorry! I forgot to introduce myself. I am Rey. The caretaker of this place." Rey said this forwarding his hand.

The girl looked at his hand for a while and then said, "In that case I should get going." She walks out of the place with attitude. Rey was left there alone. He said to himself,

"I wish I wasn't falling for you. I wish we could be together. But this universe doesn't allow me to fall in love. But I couldn't help myself when I saw you jumping. I couldn't watch you die in front of my eyes. I fell for you when you stood there determined. I saved you. I saved you for myself. I am so selfish."

Saying this he just stood there waiting for nature to change his destiny.
