Shah Rukh's 'Om Shanti Om' muhurat!

Shah Rukh's next home production 'Om Shanti Om' went on the floor. To be directed by choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan, the film's muhurat took place recently in Mumbai. It was a very hush-hash affair without any frills and fanfare. As per reports, the cast and crew of the film performed a puja on the occasion.

There was rumour that the film can be postponed as Shah Rukh, busy shooting other films, can't give time before next April. However now, the film's muhurat will stop the speculations to rest.

'Om Shanti Om' will have model Deepika Padukone as Shah Rukh's heroine. Deepika will make her debut in this film.

The actor considers this SRK production as a gift for his birthday coming later this month

The physically challenged bowler of the runaway hit 'Iqbal' is all set to start his fresh innings tomorrow. Shreyas Talpade will commence shooting for Shah Rukh Khan's home production 'Om Shanti Om' ('OSO') directed by Farah Khan.

"It's a dream come true for me. When I was doing Marathi movies and TV serials, I always wondered whether I would ever be able to share the screen with SRK. It's a euphoric feeling! It's a birthday gift in advance for me," smiles Shreyas whose birthday falls in the third week of this month.

Having earned accolades for his performances as the behroopia in 'Dor' and as Arjun Fernandes in the comedy 'Apna Sapna Money Money', Shreyas has not let success affect his modesty. Apparently, he has no heroine opposite him in 'OSO' as supermodel Deepika Padukone (makes her Hindi film debut) is paired opposite SRK.

"These things don't really bother me. Frankly, I am both tense and excited because I have scenes with SRK who is such a seasoned actor," Shreyas reasons.

He adds, "What delights me is that Farah has cast me in a role which, not many actors of my age get to play." Meanwhile, his mentor Nagesh Kukunoor has repeated him for his next light-hearted entertainer titled 'Mumbai to Bangkok'. Shreyas has also completed Prakash Jha's 'Love Story'. Here he is paired opposite former Miss India Nikita Anand.

Shanti for SRK now!

After almost a year of speculation on whether the film would be made, shelved or pushed to another time, our rumor mongers are finally at peace. Shah Rukh Khan's home-production Om Shanti Om is to be directed by Farah Khan. There were no frills and fanfare at the mahurat, but a puja was conducted with the cast and crew of the film. Peace be upon Bollywood...!

"It is an honor to have Pyarelal arrange a song for us" - Vishal Dadlani

While Himesh Reshammiya and Pritam dominated the music scene in 2006, composer duo of Vishal & Shekhar had to contend themselves with Taxi No. 9211, Golmaal and I See You last year. Meanwhile they were getting all set for a rocking 2007 ahead with projects like Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, Tara Rum Pum, Cash, Alladin, Airport and Om Shanti Om ahead.

With number of interesting projects in their kitty, what makes them so excited about the score of Om Shanti Om, a film that brings director Farah Khan and Shahrukh Khan together after Main Hoon Naa?

"Yes, of course we are quite excited about this film since it comes with a fresh subject. An entertainer in the making, it traverses generations that only aids in bringing variety to the kind of music we are composing for the film. Also, it is an honor to have someone like Pyarelal [of Laxmikant-Pyarelal] arranging a song for us", says Vishal Dadlani.

Arranging a song? Wasn't he actually composing a few songs for the film as a guest composer?

"Na na, this was not the case. It is anyways such a proud moment to have him consenting to arrange a song for us which has been set in the 70s. We were so scared to be actually approaching him since we wanted all his years of experience to help recreate that magical 70s feel for this song", he clarifies, "It is so nice of him to step in as an arranger. The song is already recorded and he has done a phenomenal job there."

So which is the song by the way? "It is a number called 'Dhoom Taana' and is a tribute to the space Laxmikant Pyarelal belonged to. And before you think it is a 'bhangra', fusion or a dance number, let me clarify that it is based on the 70s filmy situation. Won't be able to divulge anything more and you would have to wait for the soundtrack to arrive," he signs off!

The casting of Farah Khan's next film Om Shanti Om (OSO), produced by ShahRukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, is now complete and the director is heaving a sigh of relief.

Along with ShahRukh Khan, model Deepika Padukone, Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher, Arjun Rampal and newcomer Yuvika have now joined the OSO team.

Hi fives

Says a buoyant Farah, "I have just signed Arjun for OSO. It's a very interesting role and I needed a big personality for that — someone who can walk with that persona.

Arjun has a different look in the film… very '70s style and looks great in it. I have extremely pivotal characters in the film apart from the main cast including Shah Rukh, Deepika, Shreyas and Kirron, and Arjun now completes the team. I have also signed newcomer Yuvika in a pivotal role for OSO."

And who is Yuvika? "She's a model who has done the recent Thumbs Up ad with Kunal Kapoor."

For his part, Arjun says, "I am very excited about the film. I will start shooting for Farah this month."

Farah says OSO, which is a love story, is going to be "one of the biggest films of 2007 in terms of budget, story, look, styling and scale — much bigger than Main Hoon Na — as it's a period film in the first half. The art designer, Sabu Cyril, has created Bollywood sets from 1977."

The choreographer-turned director concludes in her trademark tongue-in-cheek style, "Please don't say that we are remaking Karz. Karz was never set against the backdrop of Bollywood!"

Arjun Rampal in 'Om Shanti Om'!

Arjun Rampal signed up for Farah Khan's second directorial venture 'Om Shanti Om'. He will play opposite newcomer Yuvika.

ShahRukh Khan will play main lead in the film opposite model Deepika Padukone. Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher will be seen playing important roles. Shah Rukh's production house Red Chillies Entertainment will produce the film.

It may come as a surprise to several on the social circuit — Arti Surendranath, the model-turned-actor-turned filmmaker, has made an acting comeback of sorts. The line producer of the Angelina Jolie starrer 'A Mighty Heart' will soon be seen in Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' with Shah Rukh Khan.

"Farah and I met at a party and she told me that I would have to do a small but significant role in her film. I thought she was joking and laughed it off, and even told her that she should find someone else for the role. But she insisted on me and I had to give in," laughs Arti. "I've faced the camera many years ago, but I was never a big star," she adds.

'Om Shanti Om' is Farah's second directorial venture and is said to be based on reincarnation. Arti plays a cinema host, something she's naturally good at. "It's an important and interesting scene. Shah Rukh comes to a film premiere that happens in the '70s. I am the host at the function and I introduce and take everyone around," reveals Arti, whose look was styled by Sanjeev Mulchandani and make-up artistes Dorris and Bharat Godambe.

"I wear a sari with pearls and have also donned curls in the look," she adds.

Acting opposite Shah Rukh is an opportunity very few would let go. "What was amazing about Shah Rukh is that you can't miss his dedication and energy. It was refreshing to see an actor of his stature be so absorbed in his work," she says.

Big offer for small heroine

Yuvika Chowdary who played the heroine's role in Akash starrer Neetho Nenunna was waiting for the release for a very long time.

She was very upset but that was not for long. She got an exciting offer of working in Shahruk Khan starrer Om Shanti Om . the offer didn't come to her because of this inane telugu film. It is the Thumps Up ad that she did with Anil Kapoor that got her the film. Hope atleast because of this, the telugu film gets to release fast.

Javed Akhtar/Vishal Shekhar- Emergence of a new lyricist/composer(s) jodi!

Music of HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD. is fast catching up heat with 'Sajnaji' already being popular with the young crowd and 'Pyaar Ki Kahani' making its presence felt too amongst the romantic hearts.
