Chapter #1.
"Sarpanch ji, aapne aye ki kitta? Apne puttar nu ghar se nikaal dia? Ab woh bechara kitthe jaaega?" Bansuri concernedly asked Balwant.
"Bechara na hai woh, jo kia theek kia. Ab uss naalayak nu apne jimmedari da ehsaas hoga. Bohot aawaragardi kar lia. Aur nahi!" He replied angrily and stormed inside his room while Bansuri sat on the sofa and cried silently and helplessly.
Veera, who was at the main door, listened to their conversation and became shocked. "Baldev nu ghar se nikaal ditta? Kitthe hoga woh?" She wondered and rushed outside.
Jaggi and Billa were drinking tea at a nearby stall. Just then Veera ran to them. "Oye Baldev nu kahi vekha ki?" she sounded really tensed.
"O nahi Veera, praaji toh subhe se gaayab hai. Hum bhi unhe hi dhund rahe hai." Jaggi answered. "Aur unka phone bhi nahi lag raha." Billa added.
"Achcha? Chal woh mile toh mainu phone karne ko bolna." Veera ran towards her house.
Jaggi and Billa stood confused. "Isko ki hoya? Praaji nu aise kis vaaste dhund rahi hai? Ruk praaji ko phone milaata hoon, shayad iss bar lag jaae." Jaggi took out his phone and called Baldev but the operator said that his phone was switched off. "Kaha gaye honge!" they wondered worriedly.

"Ki? Baldev itthe bhi nahi aaya!" Veera exclaimed, dumbfounded.
"Nah cheechdi par hua ki?" Chaijee confusedly asked.
"Chaijee, aapko ghar aake dasti hoon sab." Veera said in a rush and ran outside again.

"Baldev, kitthe hai tu?"
"Hoga kahi, vella giri karta hua. Theek hi hoga!"
A part of her was overly anxious for him, while the other part was being practical and stating the fact. Somewhere she knew that Baldev would be back sooner or later as he was never serious, yet her heart could not stop being concerned for him.
After having inner conflicts for a minute or two, she brushed all her thoughts aside and decided to call Baldev again. Luckily, this time, he responded.
"Oye Baldev, kitthe hai tu?" Veera desperately questioned.
"Veera, mainu tang na kar, dimaag vadda garam hai abhi." Baldev said in a drowsy voice and she understood that he had consumed alcohol way too much.
"Oye bataa na yaar kitthe hai tu? Tang naa kar Baldeva!" Veera pleaded in a restless tone.
"Mere vaaste inna phikar dikhaane di jarurat nahi hai. Main iss laayak nahi hoon." Baldev sternly said and disconnected the call.
"Baldev, aisi gal naa kar..." and soon Veera realized that he was no more on the line.
"Khoteya fizool ki nakhre dikhaake tang kar raha hai. Main kinni pareshaan ho rahi hoon, pata bhi hai usse." Veera was annoyed. She went into deep thoughts. Where could he be? She asked herself.
"Oye pata hai tum dono vadde ek jaise hi ho. Shaitaan par dil da kinna sona."
She remembered Chaijee's words. "Agar main pareshaan hongi toh kisi shaant jagah jaungi, matlabh Baldev bhi..." she confusedly wondered. "Shayad..." she whispered to herself and headed towards the fields.

Sitting under the shade of a field, Baldev drank alcohol as much as he could, so much that he would not remember anything and anyone. His jacket was lying carelessly on the mud. He didn't care. All he wanted was a little peace for himself that he was not getting. He never felt this way. He thought that he had the best life ever. But reality was far different. He understood that no one bothered to look at him. He was not worthy of anyone's love or attention. With these thoughts storming in his mind, he gulped down another bottle of alcohol and threw himself on the hay lying on the ground. Looking blankly at the top of the shed, he thought of his father's words. A lone tear fell from the corner of his right eye.
Veera walked to him and sat beside him. "Pata hai saare kheto vich dhundh rahi thi tainu. Finally tu itthe mil gaya." she said, sighing in relief.
"Itthe... k...ki kar rahi hai? Jaa... yaha se." Baldev snapped at her authoritatively and tried to sit.
Veera stared at him and was dumbstruck to see him so pale. She could also see the dried tears on his cheeks.
"Oyeee tu ro raha hai? Paagal ho gaya ki? Tu kabse jananio di tarah rone laga?" Veera teasingly asked to make him feel better. She knew that he loved to banter with her, and this is why she tried to initiate it by pulling his leg.
Baldev mockingly chuckled. "Khud nu pind da sher kehta hoon na, par aaj tak koi sher jaisa kaam nahi kitta maine. Bas aawaragardi karta rehta hoon har wakhat. Papaji sahi kehete hai ki main unka puttar kehlaane ke laayak nahi hoon. Nikamma hoon, yaha tak aye tak keh dia ki main sirf apne baade mein sochta hoon aur sarpanch banna hai issi vaaste phikar jaatane da dikhaawa karta hoon. Aisa koi kaam nahi kitta maine jispe mere papaji nu, mere beeji nu mere pe naaz ho. Koi nahi hoon main... koi nahi..."
As soon as he poured his heart out, Veera was at a loss of words. She felt her heart breaking to see him shattered for the first time. She wished at that moment if she could bring him back to normal anyhow.
Baldev sobbed like a kid. He loved his family and his pind more than himself and anything else, so how could he be accused of being selfish and not caring about his pind and his own people?
"Papaji sahi hai. Main humesha... kameena tha aur kameena hi rahunga. Kisi di phikar na hai mujhe. Kisi di nahi." He stated in a disgusted tone, disgusted with himself.
"Oye nahi oye, aisa mat bol." Veera tightly held his hand and entwined her fingers with his. Baldev gazed her in awe of her sudden consoling gesture. She gently wiped off his tears. "Mainu pata hai ki tera jo aye dil hai na..." she pointed her index finger near his heart, "..vadda saaf aur naram hai. Shayad tainu khud aye ehsaas na ho par maine vekha hai tere vich woh pyaar aur parwaah sab de vaaste, apne parivaar de vaaste, pind aur apne logo de vaaste, mere va---"
Veera stopped realizing what she was about to say. Baldev stared at her with a calm and content expression - content since... she trusted him.

Precap
"Aye le ghar ki chaabi, tu yehi rahega kuch dino vaaste aur haan kal kaam dhundne jaana tainu subha subha, samjha?" Veera rightfully ordered him and he nodded obediently.
The next moment, he stepped closer and asked in a flirtatious voice, "Mere vaaste aye sab kyun kar rahi hai?"
"Dost hai tu. Issi liye..." Veera instantly replied in defense, looking away.
Baldev smiled wide. "Chalo aaj peheli vaari mainu dost toh maana." Veera looked at him in surprise.
