I don't think he is confused about his feelings anymore. He realises well that he has developed a soft spot for astha esp. After jungle scene. Its just that he is just too stubborn to astha openly...his huge ego doesn't let him. besides he is also afraid to make himself vulnerable and fears that once aastha will leave him he will be hurt all over again so he prefers to keep quiet. I don't think even today he wud have said anything if astha wouldn't have pressurised him to answer her.
