I refused to acknowledge any affect, but truth be told, I was irritated. Not jealous. Absolutely not. Just irritated. It wasn't because of Sanyukta though, please, I couldn't care less about her or what she does in her free time, or who she hangs out with, or what she feels for hi...
Ok too much thinking for a useless topic. God just let me get through this class, then I don't have to see her face for the rest of the day.
I walked into the library, Sanyukta was probably here studying, doing the assignment due next week in advance. What an over-achiever, not above me of course. And it's not like I came in to see her or anything, nah.
As I walked in, I decided I was feeling quite charitable, chall uski help kar deta hoon aaj.
But I walked in to find her and her new best friend sitting in that table. The one we usually sat in, not that it was officially "our" table or anything. Let them sit, what do I care?
She looked up and saw me, the blissful expression on her face suddenly changed into absolute annoyance---well that's one way to welcome a guy.
I expected her to walk over and ask for help. But she didn't.
That Parth nudged her playfully with his elbow. She nudged back. They kept going, god this was so irritating to watch.
"God Parth, what are you doing?" She playfully argued.
"Nothing," he continued nudging her.
"Nothing? Acha bachu!" She messed his hair up.
"Oh no you didn't!" He smiled calmly, pretending to be annoyed.
"Oh but I did! Deal with it!"
"You're telling me to deal with it?" He got up, continuing their playful fight.
"Haan, I'm telling you to deal with it! What'chu gonna do about it?"
"Abhi batata hoon," he took her water bottle and spilled it all over Sanyukta.
"Oh my god Parth!" She jumped up to jokingly hit him but he picked her up in his arms.
God damn it! She was all wet, and his hands refusing to leave her. I felt this sudden urge to interfere, I don't know how or why but I wanted to so badly. How can she go around fighting like this, deep down a voice told me I wasn't irritated because she was fighting in public but because she was fighting with...someone else.
The librarian walked by, looking angry as ever. And then she said something that hurt me more, more than it should have.
"Tum dono phirse shuru ho gaye."
How could the librarian say that to THEM. It was...it was our line. She said that when WE fought.
God I couldn't take this anymore. I had to leave.
I was sitting quietly in the dark common room alone, thinking introspectively about the day. And then I saw her. She was walking down the corridor of the common room, alone in her night clothes, hair loose. For a second I could say she looked KIND OF...pretty. Not too much though ok.
But thank god she was here alone. Not because I cared, but because I had to talk to her about something...uh..the diary, yes the diary! I needed to know if she found a clue, only for Vardhan sir that is, not because of anything else.
But then she met up with that same Parth, he wasn't wearing a shirt. Show-off. Agar main chahta, toh main bhi apni body display pe rakh sakta. But I don't have to stoop to that level.
And it was then the moment of fury came, he wrapped his hands around her waist and began to lean in. I don't know what came over me but in the next second, Parth was on the floor and I in front of Sanyukta like a guard.
"Parth are you alright?" She was about to crouch down and tend to him.
"He's fine, itni badi body banayi hai, ek dhake se kya hona hai?" I explained to her. "And you," I leaned down to him, "CIT ke loser, I'd highly appreciate it if you didn't go around trying to kiss my girlfriend."
"What?" she shrieked from behind as expected.
"What ka kya matlab hain sweetheart? Haven't we kissed?" I don't know why I was doing this, honestly but it felt needed.
She looked at Parth, nervously, goddammit why did she give so much of a damn about him! "Randhir ye kya bakwas kar rahe ho?"
"Haan ya na?"
"But that wasn't a..."
"Haan ya na?" I asked again, louder this time.
She looked away, "Haan,"
Parth, being the saint he was got up and apologized. He was about to apologize to Sanyukta but I stepped in between. "Door se," I smiled sarcastically.
"I'm sorry," he genuinely said and left.
As soon as the dorm room clicked shut she started. "What the hell is this Randhir? Why'd you lie to him?"
"Maine kya jooth bola?"
"Don't act smart Randhir! Why'd you tell him that I'm your girlfriend? Tumhara dimaag kharab ho gaya hai!"
"Bb..because you're engaged. And it's not right for an engaged woman to go around kissing people like that."
"I don't give a shit about my fiance and you know that! But Parth, I-I... I actually thought I..."
My eyes began to flare with anger. "I what? Bolo Sanyukta? You thought you lo..."
"No! Well not "love" anyways. But "like"... shayad. I mean, I don't know. He's nice, sweet, and respects me," I suddenly felt a twang of guilt, "And he's fun to be around, I thought..."
"Listen to me Sanyukta Agarwal when I say this. You. Feel NOTHING. For him."
"How can you be so sure? And anyways, iss sab se tumhe kya? It's none of your business! Main kisse pasand karun, kisse kiss karu, kis ke liye kya feel karun, iss sabse tumhe kya farak padta hai?"
"Farak padta hai!" I finally confessed in what came out like a sharp scream. This is the most clear my head has been all day. It started making sense.
Instead of grabbing her wrist, I simply turned to her, beaten, broken down. I looked into her eyes, they were beautiful, the epitome of simplicity, she was beautiful, and I chose to turn a blind eye to this beauty. I gently entwined my fingers in her. "Haan, mujhe farak padta hai. Mujhe farak padta hai jab tum uske saath class main ati ho, mujhe farak padta hai jab librarian tumhe uske saath humari line sunaye, mujhe farak padta hai jab tum uske baare main sochti hon, jab tum kehti ho ki tum uske liye shayad kuch feel karti ho, par sabse zyada farak padta hai jab tum uske saath jhaghadti ho," our eyes grew cloudy with tears, I leaned my head against hers, I felt her smile, "Kyun ki tum sirf mere saath jhaghad sakti hon Ms. Farzi Engineer,"
Her face shined bright with a priceless smile, and this time, I was the reason behind it. And then of course she gently punched me for calling her Farzi Engineer, but we both knew that this time it was out of affection.
"In these past few days I realized how much I miss fighting with you, the way you talk, with confidence, intelligence, strong willed opinions, your attitude, your heart, your zid, I've grown to miss everything about you Ms. Agarwal. Main kya karun, mujhe aur koi suit hi nahi karta,"
She leaned in to kiss my tears away, "Main Mr. MCP se hi baat kar rahi hoon na?"
"Nope," I corrected, wiping her tears away, "You're talking to Sanyukta Agarwal's boyfriend."
"The first and last," she smiled and I soon leaned in, for our 3rd kiss. Well the first as a couple.
Extended Ending:
"Wait," she paused, "Bhool gaye? I'm engaged Mr. Shekhawat," she teased.
"In his dreams," I brushed the champu aside and continued to relish the joy I'd been foolishly denying myself for so long.
So how was it? My first OS of SanDhir. I hope it wasn't too crabby, forgive me I've kind of tired. BTW I'm Ashiqui (one "A").
