I'm posting my thoughts on today's episode here. My view may not always be pleasant and I don't want to spoil anyone's mood. But at the same time I value my freedom very much. So I decided to post a warning sign, for people who stumble upon this post, so that they know what to expect.
I'll post one of these symbols on top of my view on the episode everyday. So that people with delicate constitutions can avoid strong ones and read only pleasant ones

Danger Caution Pleasant

EBP
18-FEB-2014

I decided write about today's episode in terms of interactions between characters, in the order they appealed to me.

Anjali-Niranjan:
Niranjan expresses his pleasure at getting a dutiful wife like Anjali. He invites her to have coffee with him as a reward for her. She was about to get her own coffee when he tells her that he got her a gift too. Anjali finds the gift box under the cane. She opens it to find a necklace that looks like a neck collar with a bell attached to it, that cattle wear. He tells her that she is being rewarded for sending Aastha into Shlok's room. It sounded to my ears like he is happy with Anjali's pimping. Anjali didn't seem very happy being praised. He tells her that he wants to see her wearing that. Anjali doesn't wear it but just puts it around her neck. Niranjan is happy... with himself. He tells her that whenever Anjali wears that collar, it will remind her how happy it makes him when she obeys him. Anjali wants to tell him about Aastha's curiosity about Swathi but Niranjan gets a call and he leaves. Anjali feels suddenly relieved without him hovering over her. With a revolting look on her face she puts that collar in its box, takes it to a secret den of her own, unlocks a chest and puts the gift in it with a lot of other gifts in there. Anjali doesn't like to remind herself that her obedience makes Niranjan happy. Does it mean that whenever she is disobedient, she behaved that way on purpose? Later, Niranjan comes back after finishing his call and finds Anjali restlessly pacing in their bedroom. He asks her what the matter is and Anjali tells him about Aastha's enquiry about Swathi. Niranjan's face becomes pale for a second. He seemed worried for a bit if his not-so-obedient wife had revealed anything to Aastha about Swathi. Anjali tells him that she told Aastha that she doesn't know Swathi. Niranjan asks her if Aastha was happy with her answer. Anjali tells him that Aastha will not rest until she finds out the truth and she fears that she will ask Shlok about Swathi. But Niranjan has too much confidence in his bacha/jigar ka tukda(piece of heart), Shlok, that he will handle the matter. So Anjali and Niranjan don't know that Aastha has already asked Shlok about Swathi. Anjali tells Niranjan that Aastha is an only child of her parents and because which she is free-spirited and stubborn. Niranjan tells her that someday, by hook or by crook, Aastha has to become a shadow of Anjali. Anjali becomes suddenly shaken by that announcement and she flees from there saying she has to take her medicine. Niranjan is happy that he successfully manipulated Anjali again to keep on grooming Aastha to his wishes and according to Agnihotri traditions. What is it that Anjali fears so much? There sure is a mystery behind Anjali. She is not exactly a meek woman going by how she locked up all his 'gifts' in a chest to never wear them again.

Avdhoot-Kalindi:
Avdhoot calls Aastha on Agnihotri home phone so that Kalindi can invite Aastha over to the Kirloskar house for a few days. But before Kalindi and Aastha could talk anything Anjali sends Aastha away to find Shlok and she tells Kalindi to let Aastha spend time with her husband so that divorce can be avoided. Avdhoot's purpose behind calling Aastha in order to soothe Kalindi's fears, goes down the drain. Kalindi is more determined to bring Aastha back after six months now. She calls Aastha on her cell phone later and tells her to come home the following evening so that she could meet the guy Kalindi decided for her. Aastha gets irritated. Kalindi can be so insensitive sometimes. She tells Aastha that her relationship with Shlok is for only few days and she cannot spend her whole life alone. She says these things when Aastha is very much in love with Shlok and is hurting because of his rejection. Aastha cuts her off. Avdhoot overhears this whole conversation and is really pissed off. Avdhoot tells Kalindi in no uncertain terms that only Aastha decides what she wants to do with her life and he will not tolerate any interference from her. He asks her to leave Aastha alone for a few months and let her decide how she wants to mould her life. He also tells her that she cannot take decisions regarding Aastha's life by herself just because she is her mother and there are other people in Aastha's life who love and care for Aastha equally. Kalindi becomes emotional and says that she only wishes Aastha's well-being. Actually Kalindi is trying to live her life through Aastha. Not good.

Aastha-Varad(Sojal):
Aastha asks Varad whether Shlok was always so angry and uptight since childhood. Varad tells her that he was actually a happy guy, who was full of life. Aastha asks him about what happened between Swathi and him that turned him into the person that he is. As expected, Varad doesn't tell her anything. He tells her that Swathi is Shlok's past and Aastha is his present and they should both leave the past in past and move ahead. He begs her to take care of Shlok because he thinks she is capable. He puts his hand on her head and blesses her. It felt to me like he is putting a load on her head instead of helping her. He is such a selfish person. He cares only about his brother and not about Aastha. Doesn't she have the right to know the truth about Shlok if she is expected to help him heal? What caught my attention in the whole interaction was that Sojal, who decided to spy on Aastha round the clock earlier that day, overheard them and decided to use her crooked ways to find the truth. In yesterday's episode, Jaya tells off Sojal that she failed to extract ghee even with a crooked finger. Can I expect Sojal to dig out truth using a crooked approach, when Aastha's straight-forward approach fails?

Aastha-Shlok: Shlok continues with his childish behavior to attract Aastha's attention. At breakfast, he complains that puris have gone cold. Aastha continues with her stay-cool approach and that further pisses him off and he leaves without eating breakfast. At bedtime, he tries to irritate aastha by turning the lights on and off. When she doesn't get rile up, he throws another tantrum for taking his meds. He says "kisiki baap mein dum nahi hain ki mujhe dawaai khila paaye. tumhari aukat nahin hai...". Does it mean that he won't even listen to his baap(dad)? This time Aastha changes tactics and tricks him into taking the pills by mixing them in his milk. She tells him "kisike baap mein dum ho ya naa ho, Aastha mein dum hai". Cute scenes, both of them. Loved how Shlok flicked the tablet and said "oops my hands threw the tablet away". Loved Avinash's expressions.

yeah it seems anjali is living a terrible life..that even the thought of someone becoming her parchayi..shudders her..loved her expressions there...
wat to say abt shlok..am Just loving him this way..we wanted aastha to ignore him so he would realise his love..this not the same scenario..but since shlokie is not getting desired reaction from his toy..he is getting annoyed...and its treat to watch these two...

thanks gauri.

i think anjali obeys niranjan only when he is around. when he is away, she acts according to her own will. whatever happened in Anjali's past that transformed anjali into the ghost she is now, she doesn't wish it on her worst enemy. she fears something constantly and it hurts her way more than that cane.

Nice post Rekha. I agree with you that all the Agnihotris NA, Anjali, Varad, Vinayak and even Jyoti are selfish. They all think about Shlok. Nobody really thinks about what Astha has and is undergoing. We know that Swati called Shlok selfish too. So what was his selfishness?

thanks suchi.

its natural to be selfish enough to love your own blood more than an outsider, but to just pushing them to battle without arming them with information is too much.

though swathi called him so, shlok may not be selfish. inspite of whatever shlok calls himself and whatever he appears to be from outside, i want to give him a benefit of doubt, just because jyothi wanted aastha to never leave his side. i don't think jyothi is selfish at all. she has the purest heart, inspite of going through so much. she wished aastha a happy marriage without a trace of jealousy, when she herself is suffering so much. inspite of her MIL telling her to taunt aastha for trying to divorce shlok, she refused to do so and faced torture for aastha's sake. if she was selfish, she could have said something bad about her to save her own skin. jyothi and kavya are the purest souls in the agni house.

Rekha I agree , but this exactly what I was trying to say. So all are selfish for the person they love. That is very true with all of us too. So Jyoti loves her brother and so wants All the happiness for both Astha and Shlok. So she is selfish for the happiness of her brother and thus listens to the taunts of her MIL. So calling Varad or Anjali or NA selfish for Shlok might not be right. Varad for that matter thinks that "gade murde ukhadane se kisi ho bhi khushi nahi milegi". So he told Astha not to look into his past but live with the present. So he is selfish about Shlok and also about Astha as he does not want Astha to be hurt either. That is exactly what I am trying to say. Same goes for Kalindi, avadhoot and ajju . Even Shlok I agree may not have been selfish. He was probably doing something for Swati but was misunderstood. Dont get me wrong. My whole point here is all of us are selfish when it is a concern of our loved one. I am sure Astha too will become selfish if something is concerning Shlok and she does not want him to be hurt more. Kavya is too young. She cannot fall into any equation at this time.
