"Here is the test report... " said the doctor making her way into her cabin where a woman was waiting for her... No... the test report to be more honest. The doctor smiled at the beautiful woman seated in front of her and sat on the chair flipping through the pages of the test report.
The woman was visibly nervous and worried and it can be seen through her body language... Sweating forehead... Worried eyes... Dried lips... Shivering fingers playing with each other.
" So Ms. Meher -" the doctor was interrupted by a male voice.
" Its Mrs. Meher Abeer Malhotra " corrected a handsome charismatic man in his late twenties while making his way to the doctor's desk.
" And you are..??? " asked the doctor, her eyes fixed on the man in front of her.
" No points for guessing doc, I'm the husband... Abeer.. Abeer Malhotra " came the reply which clearly disappointed the doctor which was clearly visible by the changed colour of her face. It looked as if a child's favourite toy was suddenly snatched from him and broken.
" Ohh..." whispered the doctor.
" Hey wifey " Abeer said and after kissing meher's cheek took a seat beside her.
Meher stiffened the moment she heard abeer's voice interrupting the doctor's words. She was already worried thinking what would the test result be and now in the presence of abeer, it would be even more difficult. When his lips touched her cheek in a soft peck, she unbelievingly felt much better the next second. But her thought process was interrupted by the soft voice of her doctor
" So... Now that you both are here... I have few things to discuss with you two... "
" What is it doctor...??? " asked meher in a tone which clearly reflected the turmoil going on within her.
" The result is positive... " declared the doctor.
Who knew these four words could have this much power... The power to literally shake someone's world and turn it upside down... Meher realised this 'power' when her brain finished processing the information presented to it.
" Meaning...??" asked abeer in order to understand the silent words that were just now exchanged between meher and the doctor. The words which made meher's ever so beautiful face turn pale.
" Your wife is expecting Mr. Malhotra " replied the doctor realising how cute the young couple seated in front of her was.
Abeer couldn't believe what he heard and for a second he doubted his own ears. It took him around good 5 minutes, to digest the news and for the reality to sink it. He heard it right. He will be a proud father in a matter of few months. He will have his baby in front of his eyes and in his arms. His little bundle of happiness... Junior Abeer or junior Meher.
The doctor smiled looking at abeer and hundreds of emotion playing on his face but when her eyes landed on meher; it made her doubtful... Doubtful that something isn't right between the couple.
Abeer happily turned to his left to look at meher when one single look at the woman beside him, washed away all his happiness. His meher wasn't happy and it broke his heart AGAIN. Abeer hurriedly looked at the doctor and smiled at her.
" Its way too much to digest you know... Our first time " abeer said making an excuse. "can we see you tomorrow doctor...??? If that's possible" he asked.
" Sure... Just take an appointment " replied the doctor.
Abeer held meher's hand and took her out of the doctor's cabin making his way to the parking lot. Meher sat in the passenger seat without a single word and eyes fixed on her feet; avoiding any kind of conversation with her husband.
Abeer was driving way back home but his eyes repeatedly turned towards meher. Her silence was killing him. He desperately wanted to talk to her right there but he on the same time, wanted meher to break all the walls she created around her and talk to him... Talk to him about everything that's going inside her mind... Everything that is bothering her... disturbing her... Scaring her or for that matter; stopping her from talking to him.
It was night and still meher didn't say a single word. She was standing near the window, looking at the sparkling stars in the red sky. It was certain that it would rrain heavily accompanied with a violent storm. Meher always had this strange connection with stars shining in the sky millions of miles away from us and every time she felt lonely and sad, she would look up at them. Looking at stars comforted meher and somehow she always found the answers to her questions or problems.
" Its not a problem for god's sake" said abeer out of frustration.
" It is not a problem I agree..." said meher for the first time.
Before abeer could say a word, meher said something that crushed his heart and shook the ground on which Abeer was standing.
" It is a CURSE " shouted meher.
