Megha Chakraborty to play Mastani in Peshwa Bajirao check out EXCLUSIVE pics

We finally have our very own Mastani on television. The makers of Peshwa Bajirao have roped in Megha Chakraborty to play Mastani in the show. The show will have a leap next week with Karan Suchak playing the grown up Peshwa Bajirao and Ishita Gangopadhyay playing the role of grown up Kashibai. Though the makers thought of a lot of popular faces for the show, they locked in on Megha for her freshness and innocence. Megha was seen in &TV's Badi Devrani and Zindagi's Kwabhon Ke Zameen Par. Megha hails from Kolkata and started with doing Bangla TV serials. Peshwa Bajirao will be a maiden show for Megha and she will be seen wearing an elaborate costume with jewellery.

We got some exclusive pictures for you guys of her look in the show. With the leap next week, the makers will introduce Karan as the grownup Peshwa and Rajeshwari Sachdev as Radhabai. Many popular actresses like Riddhima Pandit, Lovey Sasan, Heena Parmar were considered for the role but eventually, Megha is the chosen one. Megha will start shooting from few weeks and will have a smashing entry in the show. It will be quite a challenge as she has to match up with Deepika Padukone in Sanjay leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. Megha will also be undergoing sword fighting and horse riding training for same as well.

Looks good, doesn't she? Megha has acted in popular Bengali shows like Joto Hashi Tato Ranna and was Badi Devrani was her first Hindi show where she played a Marwari bahu, Reeti Biyani, on & TV. Megha was initially rejected for her western looks, but she surprised everyone. She was dressed in a traditional Marwari dress to impress the makers and she got selected for the lead role. The show gave her the big break to Hindi Television industry. Megha never thought that she could transform herself to a traditional Indian woman for a TV show. Though she faced a bit difficulty to deliver dialogues as she owned a Bengali accent, gradually she picked it up.

She has also acted in a Bengali film in 2012 where she played the character named Rini. Since childhood dancing has been passion and now playing Mastaani that will be used to the full. She has also done a Bengali film Action as well. Are you excited for the leap and the new characters in the show? Tell us in the comments below and stay hooked with us for more.

I am happy with the choice of Mastani 😆 ... She is ofcourse looking better and beautiful than Deepika from the movie Bajirao Mastani... 😆 😛
The only thing is that why they are introducing her so soon , I mean they can wait for 2 months atleast till August 😔

Her looks are beautiful but I want her costume and hairstyling to be more elegant that will br perfect for Mastani... ❤️ 😳

If they are introducing her sooon , then I want that the show makers to be focussed on Bajirao's warrior aspects as well properly... Let's see 😳 😆

What are your views , please share everyone 😳

Interesting! I saw Megha's audition and she has a softness that I hope will be retained as a part of Mastani's personality, even though she is a fighter.

The audition process for the leap has been quite interesting - so many familiar faces. The final choices were not the ones I had hoped for...Except for Saurabh, that is! There could not have been a more perfect choice for Chimna!

As a Bengali American who loves the diversity of India and is fascinated by Marathi cultural traditions, I am both amused and apprehensive about the choices for Kashi and Mastani. Hopefully both Bengali actresses can do justice to their roles as well as the nuances of the Marathi language. I'm curious to see how Karan will do in that sense, too. For me, it all comes down to how the characters are written...and then if these actors can deliver as naturally as their predecessors did!

@MelodiousDreams , from where did you saw the audition ? 😲 Link please 😳
About Karan and Ishita , I am sure that they will perform well as I have seen them in their previous shows... 😃 😳

And Saurabh as Chimaji as well 👏.

Don't know about Megha as I have never seen her acting 😆

The advantages of surfing the internet! 😉 😆

Me being the ardent Balaji/Radhabai fan that I am, I was trying to see if I could find any of Manish/Anuja's auditions or their mock shoot that they talked about in their interviews...While searching for it, I found a tokari of not only kachche aam, but also a ton of other things!

I had my heart set on seeing Saurabh Gokhale as Chimna and Khushboo Tawde as Kashi. Age factors aside, if Manishji and Anuja had both been able to stay longer as Balaji and Radhabai, I would have loved to see these actors together.

I am personally unhappy with this choice for now. Havent seen Megha before, so cant comment on her acting skills. As for the movie I never felt DP was a good fit for Mastani coz DP doesn't remotely resemble Persian. Among the two leading ladies I liked PC more. She brought Kashibai to life and hope Ishita does justice to the role too. Had Sanjeeda Sheikh being a lil younger I would have said she would have made the perfect Mastani. She has delicate looks but at the same time she is good at portraying strong characters.

I have reservations about a lot of the casting choices for the leap, but I'm waiting to see how the characters are written - hopefully the directors will be able to guide these actors and maintain the simplicity that I was so charmed by when I first discovered the show. The crew puts so much into set design, costumes, dialogues, music...The rest remains to be seen, in terms of acting skills, suitability for the roles, and characterization...The original cast has set extremely high standards in such a short span of time!

Bajirao Mastani...I personally didn't like Mastani in the movie because I felt she was not well-written or well-portrayed, and the "epic romance" fell flat because it wasn't written well, either. Kashi was very well-developed and beautifully-portrayed, with Priyanka giving the character strength and soul, nailing every nuance along the way. For me, living up to that level of controlled acting, even with a different interpretation of the historical figure, will be tough! When I try going back to watch Bajirao Mastani, I am drawn to the scenes of the Bhat family because all of those actors were fantastic and so natural, and I understood their characters' perspectives more than anything else. And hopeless as I am, I always end up focusing on Priyanka and Anuja whenever they are in the frame! Such talented actresses, absolute scene stealers, both of them!

I will not comment on the casting for now bcoz we are yet to see. One of the main reasons why CAS failed to connect with the audience post the leap was not the choice of actors for the leap but the leap itself. The makers of the show made a blunder by stretching the show for a good 2-3 years showing the childhood of Asoka that when the leap happened everyone were grumpy. They had even chosen a good actor to play grown up Asoka aka Mohit Raina but audience didn't wish to see beyond Siddharth Nigam. But if u have to take Asoka's life into account, it was his succession to power by slaughtering his brothers cold heartedly and the subsequent Kalinga war that glorified him in history. But the entire kalinga war was shot in one episode It is also true that some actors chosen to play the grown up characters didn do justice but had audience given the show a chance then maybe the makers would have put in some effort too.

I am glad the leap is happening now in Bajirao as we have a good peek into Bajirao's upbringing and his family. Its time we saw what Bajirao accomplished after he became a peshwa.

Bajirao Mastani is my all time fav movie and the only thing I didn like in it was Mastani and I say this despite being a DP fan 😆 Mastani's character was shown in a very poor light and I just loved PC as Kashi. She was phenomenal in the few scenes she got and so was Tanvi Azmi or the actor who played Chima. I will wait for a few epi to pass post the leap and then conclude if it was bad or not. I have seen few scenes of Karan as Laxman in SKR and he was good in it. Ishita looks good and if she has already played lead roles before am sure she is a seasoned actor by now. Disappointed with Mastani's choice but will wait to see how Megha portrays the character. As for Anuja and Manish, will surely miss them. I guess Anuja had to be replaced since she cannot play mother to her own real life husband 😆 and also we have seen Radhabhai as a woman who stands by what is right all the time but now as she became the Peshwan Bai we can see subtle changes in her but as time flies these changes will become more prominent and a part of her persona that will scheme against her daughter in law (Mastani) on religious grounds. If it had been the Radhabai we have known so far then maybe it would have been difficult to accept this change in her coz she stood for the truth and righteousness and not royal politics. Maybe Rajeshwari will do justice to the role and she is a good actor.

Thanks for sharing Sumi 😊
Mastani entry so soon after leap is not something I am looking forward to.

I don't want to watch love triangle, I want Peshwa Bajirao.

What about who is going to play Shahuraje? That is more important to me than Kashi or Mastani casting.

Got to admit I am not impressed with casting of Mastani at all. I have a hunch they will follow Mastani from the movie who was thoroughly butchered. I hope that I am made to eat my words but that at the moment seems to be a far fetched idea.

Anyway, who is playing Shahuji? And are they going to show Bikhaji? According to some tales he was the son of Vishwanath through an upastri. I am interested in that side of the story. Are they going to take in consideration that legend??
