Channel V's hugely popular TV show Paanch is all set to air its last episode this week. On the occasion, We spoke to highly talented and extremely loved Rashi Mal playing Gauri in the show. We asked about her experiences and about her upcoming projects. Here is an exclusive interview by a citizen journalist.
Q. We heard about the show going off air in July. Considering its popularity don't you think the run for the show was really short?

In Focus
Rashi : I think the duration was just perfect. It's more important to make a good show for a smaller duration than drag it on senselessly just to rake in the money.

Q. It's very rare when Negative characters are accepted as Heroes. Gauri is an exception. What's your take on this?

Rashi : Gauri is strong, confident, independent and in control. All those make her a very good role model if you disregard her means to achieve her goals. The show is a work of fiction and of course there are creative liberties yes, but the characters are still real in the way they are portrayed. They walk, talk and dress like any of us do in our lives and I think that's also why people find a connection with them as is true with Gauri. Therefore everything she becomes something to aspire towards. We could all use more of such self sufficient, non weepy female role models in our lives. That's for the girls. As far as the boys are concerned - well they just like the rebellious, unconventional girl I think.

Q. Till now, we haven't seen Gauri's family background, do you think the audiences will get the chance to experience the background of Gauri's real personality?

Rashi : You'll just have to wait and watch. But having said that, I have begun to understand that it's not necessary to explain everything in a work of fiction. Some things are better left to the imagination.

Q. There is always a special memorable scene that stays in the heart of an actor in a project that he/she does. Let your fans know that moment.

Rashi : My most memorable scene would have to be my introduction in the first episode where you see a glimpse of Gauri. I was so excited to take that first, what I called my Pran like, shot. And the Intro scene in the second episode. I think that was quite nicely done. There are so many such scenes honestly, that I either love to watch or had a great time shooting or were satisfying because I know I worked to make them work, if you know what I mean.

Q. Indeed this year, heat has taken a toll on people's health. Share some tips for girls out there how to survive the needful.

Rashi : Drink a lot of water and exercise.

Q. Paanch has been one of those rare shows which didn't get a big deal of media attention it deserved despite the great ratings. But the fans have boosted the popularity so much on social media since past few months. Is Word of Mouth the reason behind this or something else?

Rashi : Most definitely it was word of mouth. I met a lot of people who hadn't even watched the show but had still heard a lot of good things about it. And the pure unadulterated love of the fans who worked tirelessly to promote it.

Q. Having such amazing talent, what made you took up MTV RUSH as a Cameo. How was the experience in that series?

Rashi : MTV Rush was an interesting experiment on TV. Akarsh Khurana was working on it and he is a friend whose sensibilities I greatly trust and respect. It also had several of my friends acting in it. Besides it was a chance to work with Mr Bejoy Nambiar who has amazing work to his credit.

Q. Another Interesting part that we found about you is that you have a writing experience especially for cartoons. Let us something about it.

Rashi : The writing was for a cartoon that is currently being pitched to the likes of Disney and Nickelodeon.Lets see what comes of it.But It was a very fun experience because there are no rules in cartoons. I am a big fan of random humour and I could be as random as I liked while writing it.

Q. You recently stated in an article, that you would be taking a break; your fans can't wait to know when you would be returning on screen?

Rashi : It's not really a break. I am in New York doing classes in dance, acting and singing at a few schools. It's part of the journey. I'll be back before you know it.
