Money. That's what drives everyone in the final analysis, whether in the glamour world of acting or the hard grind of scripting and producing. Cashin' In sits down with TV celebs to know well they handle their financial matters, and tracks their spending patterns.
Karishma Tanna who plays Palak in Zee TV's Palkhi calls herself an impulsive buyer and has a major fetish for diamonds. She talks to Riya V Anandwala about her finances and investments. How do you handle your money? I invest my money. Basically my CA looks after my money. And also my mom and dad take care of it. Do you blindly trust your CA? No, I don't blindly trust him. As I don't have time, my parents keep a track on him. Have you made any investments? Yes, of course! I have invested in PPFs and also Jivan Patrika. I have not yet invested in properties, but I am looking forward to doing that soon. Are you an impulsive buyer? Oh, impulsive? That's an understatement. I am a shopaholic. If I like something, I buy it. I spend quite a lot on myself, especially clothes. Per month it starts from 7000 and goes upto 20,000. Do you invest in stocks and bonds? Well, I don't invest in stocks and my mother handles the bonds. Do you believe in insurance, and what all have you insured? I definitely believe in it, and I have insured myself and also my family. Do you own a car? And is it on loan? Yes, I do own a car, an Innova. Yes, and it'is on loan. How do you plan your loan? Well, I don't find it difficult to manage my loan. But yes, I always think its better to get rid of this burden as soon as possible. I am now collecting a huge amount so that I can repay the bank. As nothing's certain in this line, one has to be very sure about loans. Do you bank on any other profession other than acting? Well, I have never thought about this. But if I do anything it'll be related to media. I will do something like media management. I would love to study too, if time permits I'd like to do an MBA course. Have you been a part of share business? No, never! What about gold? No, I don't like gold. I prefer diamonds and I am very satisfied with that. I have bought diamonds with my money and I have a solitaire too! (Laughs) Does the budget affect you? No, it doesn't affect me. My CA is there to look after it. Do you keep yourself updated about the financial conditions by reading economic times or any other financial related newspaper? Not really. Not those hardcore ones at least. But yes, I like reading Times of India.
