Dilon ke darmiyaan
( Love is like a breeze, if it flows on one side, then it shall blow on the other side too. Just how restrictionless a breeze is, the same way Love is. Love cannot be separated by borders )
Hai Sarhade kahaan
Dooriyon se dur hai
Tera mera jahaan
( The literal meaning being, there are no borders, no lines, no demarcations that separate two hearts. Though Siddhant and Afreen belong to two different Nations, though they are people separated merely by the borders between their countries, there are no separations actually between them. When their hearts twine together, there is no other external force or a physical line that can separate them. The song talks about how, LOVE has no restrictions, and it doesnt obey rules of the world. It can simply happen to anyone, from anywhere to any one from somewhere else !! Love, does not know separations, and differences )
Sau koshishe karo
Honge na hum judaa
Khuda se rabb kahe
Rabb se kahe khuda
( Even if the entire world tries to separate them, they shall not separate. Afreen and Siddhant have fallen for each other so deeply, that now even if they are physically separated, they shall not be separated mentally and emotionally and consciously. Here, by simply stating two different names of God - Rabb and Khuda, the song emphasizes on how, God is only one, but its only their name that differs. Its people, their language and their dialect that separately defines different Gods, but in the essence, God is one, any where and everywhere )
Yeh ishq Hawaa hai
Dono jagah hai
Lakeeron se batega kahaan
( Love is like a breeze, if it flows on one side, then it shall blow on the other side too. Just how restrictionless a breeze is, the same way Love is. Love cannot be separated by borders )
Parindon ke aage jaise
Dor hai na dhaage aise
Todke deewarein saari
dhadkane bhaage
( No obstructions can stop a bird from flying the sky. Even if there are many hurdles that try to stop it, or curb it or bring it down, it overcomes it and flies, coz that is its innate nature, To Fly. In a similar way, their hearts meet breaking all barriers that stop them from uniting )
Tere dil pe ruk gaya
Mere dil ka raasta
Khudha se rabb kahe
Rabb se kahe khudha
( My heart has stopped searching for a destination, for an answer to all these situations. My heart has finally met you. Here, I feel Siddhant has had to suffer fifteen years of torture and separation from his sister, from someone whom he has loved ALOT. There is a lot of void in him, void of love, lack of affection. And for him, Afreen is the one filling all those wounds with her love. After so many years of torture, pain and trouble, he is finally free from the cell. But even in the outer world, the world of Lala, there is lack of love for him. And he yearns for it, deep down. And looking at Afreen, being with her, gives him that solace. She gives him the love and affection he needs, and hence he doesnt feel shattered. He feels connected to her )
Yeh ishq hawaa hai
Dono jagah hai
Lakeeron se batega kahaan
( Love is like a breeze, if it flows on one side, then it shall blow on the other side too. Just how restrictionless a breeze is, the same way Love is. Love cannot be separated by borders )
So that was my interpretation on another beautiful track by Arjun Harjai for POW. The entire three minutes was so captivating. The song, the lyrics, the instrumentation and also the visuals. We were given an insight into the love story of Afreen and Siddhant. And I really loved it. They were silent, yet fell in love in each other. Or should I rather put it as, they fell in love with each other, but the unspoken reasons of them belonging to different Mulks kept them for voicing their feelings openly. The hearts had already met, but the physical borders that separated their countries, separated them too.
The song entirely talks about how Love does not have borders and how Love is beyond such petty reasonings. It was a beautiful son, that wonderfully put forward the situation that Afreen and Siddhant were in.
