Happened to watch yesterday episode in hotstar.
Was reminded of something I have read. One of the most profound music compositions of all time is the Quartet for the end of time by Oliver Messiaen. He wrote this in a concentration camp when he was captured by the Germans. Even from concentration camps we have music where people focused on bare necessities the obvious conclusion is that music is essential. Art is part of survival, part of human spirit, an unquenchable expression of who we are. Art is one of the ways in which we say I am alive and my life has meaning. A way of understanding things with our hearts when we can't with our minds.
Excerpts from my English textbook

Sartaj singing in prison reminded me of this. So relevant isn't it?

It seems no one present here is that much into English Literature as you (myself included). 😛 BTW, where could I read that? And yes, you meant "excerpts" by the term "Experts[sic]", right?? 😊 🤔

Same here I am not into English literature. It is about music.
Excerpts means short extract. And I have taken from my school textbook.

Good take Sanju and the excerpts I have not read. Actually you are improving a lot in analyzing. 😃. Very happy to see it.
See art connects us withour innermost feelings. If you see sometimes the songs we hear reflects our mood also. Sometimes just switching a song you can feel your mood changed.

Yes in the immense pain Sartaj needed something to go on. It was not just for survival, it was also the connect with his land, his home, his loved ones. The memories of good times he had spent. The song helped him to revive those memories and it was also about patriotism. Telling those Pakistanis the physical wounds they had given had not yet broken his soul. His soul still belongs to his motherland.

thanks for sharing this info about the the book..
yes music is really a part of everyone's life. it is the only source of inspiration and entertainment mainly for the army people.
my uncle who is a retired army men said that they would sing and dance and that is the way they would celebrate any occasion.
they would sing all the patriotic songs in the various local languages and dance to its tunes by the side of fire.
he even said that they would sing or hum songs when they are on the border as that would give them a strong inspiration to fight back.

when i heard sartaj singing i could relate to it as i have heard of it from my uncle..

Oh-khay..., oh-kay! 😆 I took it wrong. My bad! 😒

Actually, I thought that you referred to your [academic/school] textbook so it must be a poem. That means, [I] am fully aware about the term "excerpts".

No issues. ⭐️
