I am back with another story... Not because I wanted to write more, but because of a "dare" from my best friend... π
This story is actually in proper fictional style of writing, meaning in story-like format rather than my usual dialogue-oriented style... And NO, I did not choose to write this way as this was also part of the dare... π
I'll let you Guys to take a shot at it and I will tell the rest at the end...
She stumbled back and fell on the ground on the force of his slap, her lip cut and bleeding. There was fury and anger plainly visible on his face. She just looked up at him with dry eyes, she had no tears to shed anymore.
Raji, a girl that was orphaned at the age of five, was adopted by her uncle and aunt. They had only kept her as property to take over her immense wealth which she would inherit when she was of age at 21. Her aunt had forced her to get engaged to her ruthless son, Manoj, who was basically cheap character wise and had not a bit of respect to women. Raji purely hated him and when she refused to agree to his demands, this was often the result. She was abused black and blue by him almost every day, unless there were guests at home. Being just 18, she felt as if she had faced almost all cruelties in life and has never passed a day without wishing for her to breathe her last.
He came and pulled her up by grabbing her hair, when his mother walked in. "Ethana dhadava solradhu? Avanukku pudicha maadhiri nadanthuko nnu? You know he gets angry when you don't... Idhellam thevai ah unnaku?" she accused of Raji as if her son was correct. Manoj was about to slap her again, but instead was stopped by his mother, "Ivala idhukku mela adikaadhe... We are having Mr. Rajkumar and family to visit us two days later in regards to the new project. Appo iva indha maadhiri irundha nammaku dhaan shame..." He left her hair in a force and walked out with his mother following behind... Raji went in front of a mirror and stared at her in a bruised state "She too is a woman isn't she?" she thought of how her aunt spoke just a moment ago.
At this point, she did not want anything in life but to be left alone and not bothered by anyone. She did not know whether she was waiting to become 21 to be free from the torture or to end her life. As much as she loved her parents, somehow she would get angry at them for leaving her alone. But truly the only thing that keeps her going is her undeniable faith in God.
Time passed as always she was healing from the wounds on her face before the guests arrived. She really did not get the reason to why she had to be present like a doll to every guest that came and went. Obviously, her aunt wanted to show off her 'so-called' future daughter in law, but for how long?
She did not know who the guests were, nor was she bothered about that as it was only for a couple of hours that she had to stand and plaster a fake smile on her face. Instead of getting ready for the evening, she continued her normal routine of cleaning her room and painting. It is only that art takes her mind and heart away from the cruelties of life into fantasy. She loves hearing music, and that was from her little radio in her room, which was there for as long as she could remember. She hums along with the tunes that give her peace. It is amazing as to how something as simple as music and art could play such a huge role in someone's life, but for Raji, it is a fact.
She was startled by the sudden opening of the door with force. Her aunt came in and glared at her "Seekiram ready aaiyutu, get down to the hall... And you better stay within your limits of speaking to the guests..." she ordered and slammed the door again. Raji simply kept staring at the door. "Naan ennaiku yaar kitta pesi irukken for her to say this every time?" she sighed and got up to get ready.
Mr. Rajkumar was one of the closest friends of Raji's late uncle. They have been business partners for a long time as well, which her aunt took over now. Raji doesn't really know much about their family, except for little bits that she overhears once in a while.
Just as she turned the doorknob, she could hear chitchatting and laughter down below. Reluctantly, not wanting to join them, started walking with her head bowed down. As she descended down the stairs, she felt a sudden cold wash over. She really couldn't understand the feeling as it was so new, it was as if her heart was trying to convey something. But what?
Back at the living room, he felt the same. He felt excited for some reason that he could not get. He silenced himself all of a sudden, not knowing what was going on. Something definitely struck his heart, he could feel that, but was too confused to understand anything.
She came down and slowly looked up. She was in total awe. She had never seen such an handsome guy, he looked no less than a Greek god. She quickly snapped out of her thoughts and feared about it.
Karthik shot his head up to see the angel standing in front of him. His mind started shuffling with several thoughts about her, his feeling, the connection, the attraction, everything. It took him a while to snap out of trance as he sat as if a spell was cast on him.
It was her aunt who first came near her to introduce. "Mr. and Mrs. Rajkumar, she is Raji, my niece, also my daughter..." she slowly patted her. Raji smiled and welcomed the guests. Her aunt was going on and on about how Raji was one special child and how she is extremely lucky to have such a gem like her daughter. All Raji could do was stand far away and cringe at how her aunt could be so double sided.
She silently stood there looking down at the floor having nothing do, when his mother, Mrs. Shanthi, called her to come sit with them. "Raji inga vaa maa..." she called with such a friendly tone. Raji was hesitant, but her aunt slightly pushed her to go.
Her heart raced as she walked near him. She really did not know the meaning of her feelings, but she was struggling to stop her heart from thumping so loud. She was confused and all she wanted to do is run back to her room and shut herself alone, but that was not really a choice at the moment. She slowly went and sat near the guests at the edge of the sofa still looking down. "Raji, meet my son... Karthik..."
She stammered for a bit and slightly looked up at him once more, and that feeling came back. "Hi Raji..." he said with a brisk tone and held his hand out. She was hesitant at first, but slowly extended her hand for a handshake. That was the moment. Both felt a strong sensation run through themselves. It was almost like an electric shock, they found a mysterious connection between them. While Karthik realized that to an extent without knowing the meaning, Raji refused to think about it. They took their hands back in a jiffy still under the shock that they both felt.
All along the conversations taking place, Raji silently sat in the same position looking down. She could feel his intense gaze towards her, but she dared not to look, at least not when there were people around her.
He could see how stiffened she was sitting and the fear in her face. Her lips were silently quivering out of nervousness and he instantly felt something was wrong.
Her aunt, then told them about Raji's past and her parents and how she is being took care of by her and her family. Karthik thought that this was the reason for her to be shy and silent and at the same time felt happy for her as she was being taken care of by her aunt's family. Little did he know about her true life and how much of a hell that was.
She felt her eyes well up in the mentioning of her parents that she got up and silently went to the kitchen. Later, she busied herself in the kitchen to avoid any more embarrassing moments with the guests. Manoj suddenly stomped in the kitchen and grabbed her by her arm, with his nails hurting her in the process. "Innoru dhadava avan kooda pesuradha paarthen, apparom unna kondruven..." he spit out his venom at her. "Aaah... Manoj... Vidu, vazhikudhu..." she winced in pain. He was least bothered about her reactions and continued on... "You better stay within your limits Raji... Illa naa naan mosamaa maariduven..." "Stop it please... Ennaku vazhikudhu... Naan avanga kitta pesala... He only held his hand out t--" she was interrupted by Karthik's voice which came from behind and in a second, Manoj left hold of her arm. "Can I get some more water?" he asked to which Manoj instructed Raji to serve the guests and left. Although, Karthik did not see what just happened, he doubted something as Raji's eyes were moist and she tried looking away.
"Raji, neenga dinner saapidala?" he asked her to join them, but she politely refused."Illa, I am not hungry... Neenga saapidunga..." and left to her room. She felt relieved to be back to her own little place. Although her mind kept going back to Karthik and their brief meeting, she felt calm once she was alone. She eventually slept upon the night, still in thoughts about the evening.
To be continued...
I just have a few more things to mention...
This SS will be no more than 6 - 8 parts as that's all I have planned for... So you might be seeing a couple of leaps here and there in the story...
Furthermore, I am in my Summer Break right now... So I thought I might as well should write in the time that I spend complaining of boredom... π
As much as I despise reading nonfiction, it seems that I am much more better in writing that rather than fiction, which I am only great at reading... π
When it comes to writing in proper format, I am an OCD freak... So I apologize if you find the story a bit too formal than needed... π
Also, I am too lazy to color the update, so if you guys wish for it then let me know and I will...
Finally... Thanks to Gaya3 who sort of forced me to post the story in the name of "encouraging" me... Nandri PIC... π
That's it... And... Leave me a comment, at least a like won't hurt to do... Thanks π
