Its actually not technical help...but the mindset...if u have set ur mind in Computers...can u change it and study something else?

VB..yeah..I remember studying in school...putting boxes and all..πŸ˜† drop list menus...πŸ˜†
I studied Java in college only...and even did my main project on that..πŸ˜† But can't remember even the first line of the coding..πŸ˜†
I liked C++ more...😊

@Shwets

There is no particular mindset, various people have various strategy.

I personally have always been interested in Computers, so I was fixated on CSE. I could have gotten a better college if I took some other branch, but I didn't. I can compromise on college, but not on branch.

But there are other students who have no such preferences. So, they will try the best college they can get, no matter the branch. A friend of mine did it.

Then there are people who choose based on job market, or whether they want a government job or something. They base tehir branch on that. Some have location preferences, some might want to attend a college closer to home, etc.

So broadly you can say 3 categories. Fixated on branch due to interest, doesn't care what college. Fixated on college, doesn't care what branch. Will compromise on either college or branch, based on current job trend.

One important thing which can solve Rocky's jeopardy. Most colleges have an option where the students who are in the top of their class are offered a choice to change the branch after first year. Many students do this if they can't get their preferred branch in preferred college, they take something else, work hard and stay in top and get their branch changed.

@Shwets

I tried VB on my own, when I was in 6-7. In 10th we had to learn Java officially, it was in our syllabus. Yes, I have made it a point to do good in C, higher level languages are easy, I wanna be fluent in low level languages.

@FT

Thanks for the explanation😊
I understand it now...Personally I wanted to do an MBA no matter what college...but colleges are also important which I get it..😊
Yes..there are lot of factors which is taken into account for a decision like this to be made...

As for Rocky...I think I got the choices right...I am not going too much into technical..like top first year and get the branch...I am making him choose another college..as branch matters more for him...[according to my story]

I actually wanted the location factor to be included which I missed...very late to include now...I liked the foreign studies track they brought in...it was a good issue but they did not explore much

@Shwets

You are welcome.

Here is my thought process if I would have been in such a situation. Yes, college's brand value does help, but selecting a college one or two rank down won't make much difference. Since Rocky missed by 2 marks, he will surely get admitted to the next best college. But branch change is a huge difference, especially if he chose it due to interest. Therefore, I would do the same.

@FT

Glad I have done the right thing in the storyπŸ˜† I have done the same as you have said...so...I have brought in a little confusion in the middle..we can discuss about that...when I next post it..😊

Branch change is definitely a stupidity especially when the mind is set on it..
I strongly believe one cannot study something they don't like..how much ever they try..

I remember 3 idiots movie..most of the time when I wrote the story..probably u may find resemblance too...I loved the way they portrayed education system in the movie

@Shwets

VB was fun, just drag and drop, most things are already handled for you. I used to see my sister doing it, so picked up her book and did it. πŸ˜† .NET used to be so big some time back.

Yes, exactly, I believe in studying what I like, then I can enjoy it and not do it as a chore.

That movie raised some great issues.

VB.NET was better than ASP.NETπŸ˜† because as u said..VB had everything before hand..just drag and drop...

I believe in that too..just not in studies..but everything in life...

Yes..especially the one where it touches about competition and not knowledge...I am bring the same in the story

ASP is for web pages, right? Both have different purposes.

Yes, people are more interested in degree and job/salary than education.
