Karishma Tanna is the newest naagin on TV
Neha Maheshwri| TNN | Updated: Oct 15, 2016, 17:05 ISTNaagin is the flavour of the season on the tube, be it as a track or an entire serial on it. Joining the tribe of telly snake-women " Mouni Roy and Adaa Khan in Naagin, Debina Bonnerjee in 'Santoshi Maa' and Priyal Gor in 'Iccha Pyaari Naagin' " is Karishma Tanna, who'll be seen slithering as one in Yash Patnaik's 'Nagarjun'. "I play the new antagonist, who seeks revenge on Astika (Nikitin Dheer) for trying to kill me," she says.
The show will also mark the actress' return to the fiction genre after three-and-a-half years. She says, "People assumed that I wasn't open to doing TV probably because I was doing a film and reality shows. I have become choosy and want to take up substantial roles." Ask her if playing a naagin is 'substantial' enough, given the fact that she has become choosy about her roles and she replies, "Audiences have taken a liking for supernatural and fantasy shows. The genre is doing well on the small screen and I wanted to get into that mould. I have never played a naagin and such roles have always intrigued me."
More than her professional life, Karishma's personal life has been in the news in recent times. Reason: Her relationship and break-up with her 'Bigg Boss' inmateUpen Patel. Ask her the reason behind the fallout and she says tersely, "I will only talk about my work. I have always stayed away from commenting on my personal life and that remains unchanged." But surely, reports of a showdown between the couple on a busy street right after a movie screening cannot be discounted. "I want to laugh about it and nothing else," she signs off.
