Story - Fast paced, well written, and with almost no distinctive loopholes. The episodes have been really good, except so far I haven't been liking the Noorie-Arjun track. The fast pace of the story does make me believe that I had read correctly that it is a finite series and based on the fast pace my guess would be between 100 and 130 episodes probably. The dialogues are not OTT and match the situation well.
VFX - The editing and VFX has been awesome! It's not obvious that most of the show is probably being aired after a lot of editing. In fact the transitions between the snakes and humans is seamless and enjoyable.
Characters - All the characters seem well-developed and while there are some obvious protagonists and some obvious antagonists, there are also a lot of grey characters which matches reality in many ways. Hats off to the casting director for choosing such awesome actors for the various characters. They all match their characters really well and are doing full justice to their roles. Some characters I'm going to review in some more detail:
- Astika: Astika is more protagonist to me than antagonist. His mission is to do his duty to Takshak and the Naag Lok no matter what happens. He isn't wrong in this, but he is blinded by his duty to the extent that he hurts his own wives, his own sons, and innocent humans. Yet he also has a sense of right and wrong. He will hurt innocent humans, but not kill them. He will use Arjun, who he doesn't know is his son, but only to get to Vasuki. For him there's nothing more important than duty, yet he will not do anything wrong in this pursuit. I look forward to seeing what happens in the future.
- Arjun: A full out protagonist, Arjun is the perfect example of innocence tarnished. For 20 odd years of his life he has lived in this small town in a family where he is reminded again and again that he is adopted, but he is still loved. Suddenly he gets thrown into a situation that he knows nothing about and that shows well. To top it off he has power that he uses well, but that he has no idea about. In fact after he uses it he is left wondering and rejecting it. But sooner, rather than later, he'll have to come to accept this power and use it to save the world.
- Takshak: Yep I want to talk about this character even though it's really only a voice and a VFX. Takshak is your typical underworld "demon". He only cares about ruling, only cares about the end, and only cares about getting his way. He doesn't care about who he crushes along the way. And doing all that with just a voice is awesome.
- Shankhachurna: A full-out antagonist, Shankhachurna also has his reasons for doing what he's doing. He was rejected by his father, who was busy with his duty. For him it probably started off as just a way to attempt to get attention, but now it's become his way of life. He craves power as a way of getting attention. And for that he's willing to do anything.
- Noorie: She wants to live her life, but her oppressive father is stopping her from doing so. I honestly don't believe that anyone can fall in love in a few seconds, which is why I don't like the Arjun-Noorie scenes. I find that Noorie is very quick to make decisions and doesn't always think through what she's going to do.
Cons - So the above were mostly pros with a few cons in the mix. I find there are a few cons in total to be thinking about. First is the dialogues. I understand most of them, but sometimes they fly right over my head. Second is the reason behind this whole Naags versus humans fight. They have yet to explain clearly why the Naags were banished and what this fight was all about that the Naags resent so much. I don't know if they'll explain it or not, but right now I don't understand what it's about and it is a negative for me.
Overall I'm loving the show so far! I hope it stays on track and I'm right about it being a finite series because if it isn't I can see this going off track.
