Talking point: with Sayantani ghosh
Tell us about your character in Naaginn..Waadon ki Agniparikshaa.
I play the role of Amrita, an ichadhari naagin. The villain kills my parents and then begins my journey to find him. Eventually I get married to a person from the family of the killer and I'm torn between my duty as a daughter-in-law and a daughter seeking revenge.
It isn't a regressive plot as far as my role is concerned; it is quite a relatable character. Have you watched Sridevi's Nagina?
I watched both Sridevi and Reena Roy act as nagins for reference. Expressions are very important in this serial as I have to portray anger and yet be good. What about your make-up; is it scary?
My make-up isn't scary. In fact, it makes me look soft and young. Did you have to deal with snakes on the set?
Snakes were brought but luckily I haven't had to deal with them. They weren't poisonous, but I found them yucky. You were also supposed to be acting in Anurag Basu's Love Story?
Yes, but during the World Cup the scheduling got changed so I couldn't do it. Instead, I took up Ajai Sinha's Ghar Ek Sapna. How has your overall experience been in Mumbai's telly world? Is it different from regional industries?
Work is work, it's the same everywhere. Language is the only thing that's different.
You wanted to be a heroine in Bengali films. So, why are you in Hindi soaps now?
Yes, I definitely want to do films. I want to be in television too as it is a national medium; I can be present in every household.
