Tie me up The art of gifting |
It's that time of the year when you give and take. Exchanging gifts during Diwali is a ritual. All of us love receiving gifts and have fond memories of the best one ever received.
We asked some of our celebs about the best Diwali gift they ever received and gave. And what is the dream gift they desire this year.
Karan Mehra:
My Dad had gifted me a bicycle on Diwali when I was seven to eight years old. I wanted this bicycle desperately though it was double my size. It made that Diwali the most memorable one for me.
Around eight to ten years ago, my mother and I bought a house on Diwali. My father had passed away when I was a kid. I and my mother used to run our family business. We had bought a new house with the money she earned. It was a Diwali gift for ourselves.
Signing a good film project would be the best Diwali gift.
Urvashi Dholakia:
Like a true desi I don't believe in gifts. Spending time with family and friends means the most to me during Diwali. I spend every Diwali at home with my family. To me, Diwali is all about having a good time with my closed ones. Gifts don't hold any importance for me.
Sayantani Ghosh:
I get many gifts every Diwali but the most special gift remains to be the one that my brother gave me, two years ago. He had given me a box full of chocolates and perfumes. It was really special as he is eight years younger to me and he bought that gift out of his pocket money.
The best Diwali gift that I ever gave someone was a silver Ganpati idol. I had gifted it to my own self! It was that Diwali when I had shifted to Mumbai from Kolkata. I got work instantly and the city treated me very well, so I celebrated my happiness by buying this gift for myself.
My dream Diwali gift is a set of designer lights and beautiful candles as I have a fetish for lights. But gifts are just a small part of Diwali. My Diwali is all about kali puja.
Kashmeera Shah:
Last year my boyfriend Krushna gifted me a nathni (traditional nose ring). I loved the gift as I am a half Maharashtrian.
Krushna and I are planning to celebrate this Diwali with underprivileged children. Rather than wasting money on crackers and buying gifts for each other, we should make our Diwali worth by doing something for these kids.
My dream Diwali gift would be celebrating it with Krushna in our own house. We want to buy one.
Yash Tonk:
As a child, I used to go out with my father every Diwali to shop for crackers. This used to make me very happy. I still cherish those memories.
I keep gifting sweets and diyas to friends on Diwali but I give the best gifts to my five- year- old daughter Pari. I pamper her every Diwali with clothes, crackers, etc.
My dream Diwali gift is loads and loads of money.
