I have such mixed feelings about it, this is the first time I watched Naagin, so I have no precedent to compare it to. A couple of things that I liked about it were:
1) Mahek did an amazing job as the Sheshnaag in my opinion. She had the perfect aura needed for the role, was both menacing and terrifying at the same time, especially in that scene when she injures the boys who were harassing Pratha.
2) They did a decent enough job using mythology to justify the storyline, ever since I saw the ad, I've been wondering how the hell a snake can defeat the virus, but the explanation wasn't completely crazy. I'm not a hindu so I can't say how accurate it was but as a regular audience member, I bought it.
3) The story moved at a fast pace and minus a few odd seconds here and there, the editing wasn't that choppy.
4) Tejasswi had very little to do in this episode, but she was good nonetheless, showed huge potential when she was in the dubbing studio and saying the lines of the naagin side by side with Mahek attacking them. Her voice modulation there was spot on.
5) Sudha and Urvashi likewise who had very little to do, also did a really good job.
6) The premise is interesting, it's easy to bet that someone from Rishabh's family is one of the asurs, and with the variety of characters they introduced, I am curious to see who it is and fingers crossed it's not Sudha again because that's just getting tiring. His onscreen dad has more potential to be a villain IMO.
Now the cons:
1) The character of the professor is really overdone, legit looks caricaturish as opposed to a real person tbh.
2) The entire sequence at the beginning when all the monks assembled and disbelieved the professor until the virus spread looked too animated and cartoonish.
3) Chingistan (enough said here) 🤣
4) As other people already mentioned, the fact that the Sheshnaag came out because of the desh ki mitti is just. I get patriotism, but it was very overdone.
5) Didn't like Simba much, but it's also too early to comment.
Overall the actors were good, even the story is okay, but Ekta went too out there even for a supernatural show in terms of scenes and dialogues.
So overall it's a 3/5 for me right now.
