There was no third person in season 1, now don't bother about shesha she only entered the triangle towards the end and became a villain after that!And here they noticed that Rudra got way too popular than expected so in order to avoid earning the viewers wrath they killed him off instead of turning him into the villain. Now why they didn't make him the lead would only be something they know but you can't deny Rudra's popularity as a character in Naagin.
