"People who are displeased by the show are also watching it", says Karanvir Bohra
As Indian television is witnessing the dawn of supernatural shows, Naagin makes a comeback after the colossal success of its first installment. Distinguished for his immutable brio, Karanvir Bohra of the popular Naagin 2 talks with Dhrithi Sudhakar Gulvadi about his show, his approach towards his unrealistic character portrayal, expectations from Naagin 2, fatherhood goals and more...
Every actor brings in a different approach towards a character with the changing sequel to the show, how is your approach towards the character that you are playing in Naagin 2?
The brief given to me by Ekta was that the character needs to be young, youthful and energetic, nothing like whatever I've played in any of my earlier characters; be it Harsh (character name) inKasautii Zindagii Kay or Dil Se Di Dua... Sau Bhagyavati Bhava or Qubool Hai for that matter. For me, the character is quite a challenge because I look nothing like those characters, neither am I acting like any of those characters. My director Anil V Kumar is a big help. He really helps me to mould me the way the character should be, so I am really thankful to my director, Ekta and my creative Mukta. It's not easy. People take television for granted, but it takes an effort and a lot of hard work to look different and act differently. I've never seen that on television as much.
To play this character, was it out of need or was it out of choice?
With the God's grace, I am in a very good position currently. There are shows that are offered to me and there are things with choice as well as it's an honour to be a part of such a big show.
How do you get into the skin of the character which is equally unrealistic and unbelievable?
One thing that I've learnt about acting is that one needs to learn acting and to make it natural one needs to unlearn it. There is a lot of pressure on television. One doesn't get much opportunity to perform as one gets in movies or anything else for that matter. One barely gets one or two takes to deliver, and one has to deliver, there is no scope of bad performance because everything is very cut to cut. One shoots today for tomorrow's episode. One really needs to be at best and at the top of the game.
Owing to the context of the show, do you think Naagin abuses one's intellectual ability to believe in the implausible?
People who are displeased by the show are also watching it, so we don't care (chuckles) people who have loved it we love them even more. One may hate it or love it, but cannot ignore it.
Naagin season 1 created history with its remarkable success; do you think Naagin season 2 will create similar impressions and reach beyond the expectations of the viewers?
Everybody wishes that the second part is better than the first part. We all pray for it and we keep our fingers crossed, but eventually it's the numbers that come in.
As you'll soon embark into fatherhood, what would be your fatherhood goals?
For me, father was meant to be my dad and now I am becoming a father and it's a completely uncharted territory, so I'll take it as it comes. I am really excited and it's God's grace.
Isn't it emotionally draining for you to shoot round-the-clock when you ought to be with your wife at this crucial period of life?
I really like to be with her right now, but we both understand that its work and work is also worship. We respect that as well. I believe that one gets only one opportunity and one needs to make it and give their best. Having said that, I will go in a few weeks to spend time with her. I do that every month and go for a week or 10 days.
