CHAPTER 9

14th October, 2024, 12:30 PM in Raichand Mansion's living room

"Mujhe toh itni samaj nahi hai beta ki main teri result dekh kar samaj paun lekin I am so so proud of you", Satyawati kissed Vidhi's forehead.

"Result aagaya aapka bhabi? Areh waah..", Abhimanyu and Priya entered the house. "Haan, Abhimanyu bhaiyya. Second sems ka result aaj aaya hai. Isiliye college bhi jaldi chutti ho gayi, saare lectures cancel hogaye", Vidhi told Abhimanyu.

"Wowww Vidhi, you got honours in 3 out of 5 subjects. That's so amazing. Congratulations", Priya hugged Vidhi.

"Beta, Dev ko bataya ki nahi?", Satyawati asked.

"Woh abhi meeting mein hai, message kiya tha maine. Unhone bola 2 baje ki baad free honge tab call karenge", Vidhi said, a little disheartened.

"Koi baat nahi, hum hai na abhi hum celebrate karenge tumhari yeh jeet. Kyun Abhi? Kyun Priya?", Satyawati tried to cheer Vidhi up. Vidhi smiled, thanking God in mind for this beautiful family of hers.

"Main fresh hokar aati hoon", Vidhi said. "Okay", everybody nodded.

Vidhi got up the stairs. She had hardly stepped on the fourth stair when a shooting pain ran through the lower portion of her body. She shrieked and sat down on the stairs itself. Satyawati and Priya went running towards her. "Vidhi… beta kya huya?", they panicked. "Mummy ji, mera peth… aaaahhh… bahut dard ho raha hai mujhe", Vidhi groaned horribly.

"Areh kya hogaya? Abhi toh thik thi. Beta…", Satyawati couldn't understand how to react or what to do.

"Hospital leke chalte hai, mummy ji. Abhimanyu gari nikalne boliye", Priya said. Abhi rushed out.

"Vidhi, Vidhi, Don't worry, okay.. Hum hospital chalenge. Tum bas gehri saansein lo, Ok. Just keep taking deep breaths. Sab thik ho jayega", Priya said, stroking her head.

"Dev ji, Dev ji ko bula dijiye. Please, Dev ji ko bulaiye… Dev ji.. Dev j…", Vidhi was losing her senses.

1:40 PM in Birla Group of Nursing Homes

"Maa, Maa… kya huya Vidhi ko? Woh thik toh hai na? Kaushik ko call kiya tha Abhimanyu ne. Kya huya?", Dev rushed in, concerned.

"Pata nahi beta. Woh ekdum thik thi lekin achanak uske peth mein bahut zor se dard hone laga toh hum hospital le aaye usein. Doctor usko andar le gaye aadhe ghante se upar hogaya lekin abhi tak bahar nahi aaye. Mujhe kuch samaj nahi aaraha", Satyawati couldn't hold back her tears.

"Bhai, doctor aagaye", Abhimanyu said as soon as the door opened.

Dev turned around anxiously. Vidhi's gynaecologist, Dr. Hitika Ranjan looked worried. Her expressions made Dev's heart pound. "Mr. Raichand, Vidhi ki halat thik nahi hai. Main chahti hoon ki aap dhyan se meri baatein sune, aur uske liye ek decision le. Vidhi ka blood pressure bahut badh gayi hai, pre-eclampsia kehte hai isein. Dawai se control nahi ho rahi hai. Aur aapke baby ki heart beat kam hota jaa raha hai. Toh iss halat mein best yeh rahega agar hum abhi C-section kar de. Aapki consent chahiye…", the doctor held out some forms infront of Dev.

Dev was completely clueless. Everything stopped making sense to him as soon as she said, "Vidhi ki halat thik nahi hai… baby ki heart beat kam ho rahi hai."

"Lekin C-section abhi aise… abhi toh nau mahine pure bhi nahi huye… aathwa mahina chal raha hai Vidhi ka", Satyawati said.

"Dekhiye wait karna dono maa aur baby ke liye khatarnaak sabeet ho sakta hai. Last time miscarriage hone ke wajah se yeh complications kahin na kahin expected the. Agar hum ruke, toh aur bhi complications badh sakti hai. 8 months tak maximum development ho chuka hota hai. Humare hospital ka NICU, Indore ka best NICU hai. Agar baby ko paida hone ke baad koi problem hota hai toh woh hum fir bhi handle kar sakte hai. Lekin abhi agar humne intezaar kiya toh ho sakta hai ki Vidhi aur bachcha dono ki jaan ko khatra ho", the doctor explained.

"Nahi… nahi …please kuch nahi hona chahiye meri Vidhi ko.. Aur mere… mere bachche ko", Dev's voice broke. He took the consent forms and signed them, his hands trembling. The doctor left with the signed forms in a rush.

Dev sat down on a chair with hands on his head. Satyawati sat down beside him. "Hai bhagwan ab aap aur kitna pariksha lenge mere bachcho ka?", she said, as she rubbed Dev's back.

"Vidhi aur baby ko kuch nahi hoga, bhaisaab. Don't worry", Priya said. ''Haan bhai kuch nahi hoga bhabhi ko, sab thik hoga", Abhi joined her.

"Haan beta, tu fikr mat kar.. bilkul fikr mat kar bas bhagwan ka naam le. Hum sab bhagwan ka naam lete hai", Satyawati kept her hand on his head.

Dev couldn't hear anything they were saying, muffled voices reached his ears and he failed to comprehend it. The sides of his vision seemed to darken. All their faces were blurred. His hands, his feet inside his shoes were getting cold and clammy. He couldn't stop his hands from shivering. Sweat ran down the side of his head, along the back of his ear into his shirt. His face was red and scrunched up. His eyes were bloodshot and puffy. He looked at Satyawati. He tried to tell something but his throat was closing up. Nothing came out except for a strangled, "Maa".

Satyawati hugged him, sobbing as his pained cry for help broke her heart into a million pieces. "Mere bete ke saath aisa mat karna bhagwan. Woh firse nahi seh payega", Satyawati prayed in her mind. She kissed his head, pleading him to calm down as he sniffled on her shoulders.

After 2 hours

"Bhai yeh coffee aur biscuits khaa lijiye", Abhi held a cup and a packet of biscuits in front of him. "Haan beta, kuch toh khaa le please. Subah breakfast karke nikla tha aur abhi 4 bajne ko hai", Satyawati requested. Dev just shook his head moving Abhi's hands away.

"Satyawati Ji..", Hariprasad and Bimla entered running, "Kya huya? Doctor ne kya kahan?", they asked.

Satyawati explained the situation to them. Bimla started crying, hearing her. "Meri bachchi", she wailed, covering her mouth with her hands.

"Pata nahi humare bachchon ke saath hi aisa kyun ho raha hai, Bimla ji. Vidhi wahan andar, aur Dev.. yahan… aise… pichle do ghante se woh aise hi baitha hai.. Na kuch bol raha hai.. Na usne kuch khaya hai.. Dev..", Satyawati turned her face, not being able to see Dev like this anymore.

"Bhaisaab, Mummy ji", Priya called out, stirred up. Everybody looked to see the doctor coming out of the operation theatre. She removed her mask. Dev stood in front of her, his eyes questioning her.

"Congratulations, Mr. Raichand. Beta huya hai. Woh apparently ekdum healthy hai lekin usko clean karne ke baad paediatrician check karenge, uske baad aap log mil sakte hai. Aur Vidhi bhi ekdum stable hai. Sab kuch thik hai. Vidhi ko uske room mein shift karne ke baad aap log Vidhi se bhi mil sakte hai", she said with a big smile.

Dev couldn't believe his ears. He looked around, his eyes wide open. Everybody thanked God, still crying but out of happiness. Abhi hugged Dev in excitement but Dev still stood there, frozen. He finally smiled, placing his hand on his chest muttering, "Mera beta… mera bachcha… mera apna beta."

In Vidhi's room in the hospital

Vidhi was lying still on her bed, eyes closed. Bimla and Hariprasad were the first ones to enter. They stood near her head, gently brushing her hair. Dev stood by her feet, looking at her face. Vidhi slowly opened her eyes. She sat up, leaning against the bed, with Bimla's help. Bimla couldn't stop kissing her while Hariprasad placed his hand on her head. She smiled and looked at them. She looked around.

When she saw Dev, she knew he had been crying, he was terrified, she stretched out her arms towards him. Seeing her smile, Dev finally got his breath back. He couldn't control himself anymore. At that moment, he didn't care about the family standing right there, the elders or in-laws. He rushed towards Vidhi. He sat beside her and hugged her tightly. He buried his face in her saying, "Dara diya tha tumne mujhe, bahut dara diya tha Vidhi. Main bahar akele, mujhe aisa lag raha tha jaise meri jaan…", he gasped for breaths in between his words.

Vidhi pulled him back and wiping his tears said, "Ab toh sab thik hogaya na. Main thik hoon, yehi hoon aapke paas, aur ab toh woh.. Woh bhi aagaya humare paas. Aapne dekha usein?" Dev nodded in a NO as tears ran down the cheeks of both of them. Their love for each other now had its own heartbeat, the moment they had been waiting for so long was finally here, their baby, Dev and Vidhi's baby was here.

"Areh yeh kya? Baby kya sochega? Ki kaise rotlu mummy papa milein hai mujhe?", Satyawati came near and wiped their faces. She kissed Vidhi and Dev's forehead.

"Satyawati ji, samne hi Shiv ji ki mandir hain. Maine aate waqt dekha tha. Kyun na hum jaake bhagwan ka shukriya adaa karke aaye? Naathi ko aane mein thoda waqt lagega, doctor ne kahan. Hum tab tak hoke aate hain", Bimla proposed.

Satyawati immediately agreed. She took out some Rs. 2000 notes from her purse and held them infront of Vidhi's face and did that action to protect her from evil eyes. "Bete ka naam socha kya aap logon ne?", Bimla asked. Vidhi looked at Dev and chuckled, "Nahi bete ka naam toh nahi socha."

"Chalo koi baat nahi", Satyawati said.

"Aaahh Dev saab.. Aapne jab naathi ka naam abhi tak socha nahi toh meri ek choti si khwaish hai ki aap log na uska naam bhagwan ke naam pe rakhna, achcha rehta hai. Haan Vidhi, kya bolti hain?", Hariprasad requested.

"Ofcourse Hariprasad ji, yeh bahut achcha idea hai", Dev said. "Haan papa", Vidhi added.

Hariprasad, Bimla, Satyawati, Abhi and Priya left Dev and Vidhi alone.

"Toh papa, abhi kya naam rakhenge hum apne bete ka? Aapne uska naam toh socha hi nahi", Vidhi teased Dev. Dev laughed, rubbing his head against Vidhi's. He said, "I think bete ka naam mumma ko decide karna chahiye."

Vidhi moved closer to Dev's chest and placing her head there said, "Dev ji, aapko pata hai woh kitna chota sa hai. Aur uske sar pe itne saare baal. Aapki tarah. Aur uski aankhein bhi aapki tarah aur naak bhi. Aur uski ungliyaan itni choti choti. Aur woh aise roh raha tha.. Waah… waah."

"Itne kam time mein tumne itna sab kuch dekh liya?", Dev asked. "Kyun na dekhun? Mera beta sabse alag hai, sabse khoobsurat baby hai. Sabse zyada cute aur handsome hai, aapse bhi zyada", she whispered.

"Sach mein alag hai aapka beta", the doctor came in holding their baby. "Maine kisi bhi new born baby ko itna alert kabhi nahi dekha. Koi keh nahi sakta ki yeh pre-term baby hai. Ekdum healthy hai aapka beta", the doctor handed the baby to Vidhi and left.

Vidhi's eyes welled up as soon as she took him in her arms. She kissed him. She touched his little nose with her nose. She kissed his head again. Dev was looking at them with teary eyes. As Vidhi kissed their son, he kissed her forehead, realizing what a momentous decision they had made. It was at that moment they realised that from now on forever, their heart will be walking around outside their body.

Vidhi handed Dev the baby. He was skeptical at first. No doubt, he had practised holding a baby multiple times in the silence of night, when the whole world including Vidhi were sleeping. But the baby was just so little. He held him making sure to fully support his head and neck. He kissed the baby gently on his forehead and then stopped. He said, "Bubby, aap toh jaldi aagaye. Mujhe shave karne ka mauqa hi nahi diya. I promise kal main shave karke aaunga aur fir main aapko bahut pyaar karunga, itne saare kisses denge papa aapko. Lekin aaj main apni daadhi nahi chubaunga aapke nazuk nazuk gaalon pe. Okay, bubby?"

Vidhi's heart couldn't handle seeing her two boys together. Her heart was so full, she felt it's going to explode. She smiled and asked, "Bubby? Aapne abhi kahan main uska naam rakhungi aur khud uska naam rakh bhi diya. Yeh toh cheating hai."

"Areh nahi. Yeh toh bas aise hi. Woh actually tumhe pata hai meri maa mujhe pyar se 'Bubby' bulati thi jab main chota tha. Unke jaane ke baad unka diya huya yeh naam bhi mere zindagi se chala gaya kyunki baaki sab mujhe Dev hi bulate the. Kisine fir kabhi mujhe pyaar se koi naam nahi diya, kisine mujhe fir kabhi 'Bubby' nahi pukada. Aaj jab maine isse dekha, mujhe pata nahi woh naam kyun yaad aaya? Aur mere muh se wahi nikal gaya iske liye", Dev said.

Vidhi placed her hand on Dev's cheek. She moved her fingers through her son's soft hairs. "Aaj se mumma, papa aako Bubby bulayenge. Okay? You even look like a Bubby. You're so cute", Vidhi said in a baby voice. Dev smiled, looking at her.

"Sahi kahe rahi thi tum sabse alag hai mera beta", Dev said, touching Bubby's little toes.

"Humara beta", Vidhi retorted immediately.

Dev laughed, "Haan.. humara beta... humara Bubby." Dev touched his nose to his. "Lekin ek achcha naam bhi toh rakhna padega. School mein log usse Bubby thodi bulayenge? Ek na aisa naam rakhna padega jo uski personality ko match karein, aur bhagwan ke naam pe bhi hona chahiye, Nana ji ne kahan hai, woh toh manna hi padega", Dev added.

He looked down at Bubby and said, "Kya naam rakhe aapka? Cute ho, shant ho, pyaare ho, auron se alag ho, unique ho aap...."

"Adwait", Vidhi said out loud.

"Adwait?", Dev smiled looking at her.

"Adwait Dev Raichand kaisa rahega?", Vidhi said while pulling them closer towards herself.

Dev shook his head in a NO and said, "ADWAIT DEV VIDHI RAICHAND."

Are waah ekdum bhaanat update. 😍❤️❤️.i wanted the makers to end show with videv's baby coming into their world but you fulfilled that wish here. Also it was an emotional ride for Dev but finally there was happiness and relief with arrival of his baby. Videv's moments with Advait were beautiful ❤️🥺😍

Life is complex enough there is absolutely no need for the likes of Amba or Jai to make it dramatic. Your story has a perfect balance of everything! Congratulations for achieving that.

Dev is now a gold standard for how a partner should be! I especially appreciate how you wrote his emotions in the last three parts.

There are a few versions of ViDev that have emerged on IF which I have loved, and yours is on the list. Iqbal and Rachana can play Dev & Vidhi for the rest of their lives through each of these stories and we won't be tired watching them...
