CHAPTER 3
Dev and Vidhi's bedroom at midnight
Dev came out of the washroom, wiping his hands with a towel. He had nothing except his grey shorts on. He started walking towards the bed but paused for a while, in order to allow the view in front of him to perfectly sink in. The room was dimly lit but things were visible. His gaze was fixed on Vidhi. She was sitting in the middle of the bed, one leg over the other, grinning, wearing Dev's t-shirt. She was looking effortlessly attractive in the oversized black t-shirt. Dev found it difficult to turn away his eyes from her. He chuckled, observing the fit of his t-shirt on her. It was so large, as compared to her, that he felt maybe some more Vidhis could fit in it. The sleeves hung loose up to her elbow. It went down almost to her mid thighs. He laughed in his mind, "Just look at you, Vidhi. You look so cute. My t-shirt is your dress." He sat down on the bed, facing her.
"Mera t-shirt pehan liya tumne? Ab main kya pehnu? Tumhari dress?", Dev asked, pulling her closer towards himself by the t-shirt's collar. She laughed at the thought of Dev in her dress. She bit her lips and placed her hand on his bare, muscular chest. She moved her fingers gently over his chest and said shyly in a very low tone, "Kuch mat peheniye, shirtless zyada achche dikhte hai aap." Dev arched his eyebrows hearing what she said. Vidhi looked down, blushing. Dev raised her chin and kissed her lips once. He paused and then kissed them again and again slowly and softly. "Bas, bas Dev ji", she said putting her finger on his lips, "Abhi tak mann nahi bhara aapka? Thak nahi gaye?", Vidhi asked, scrunching her nose.
"Haat hatalo warna kaat lunga", Dev said.
"Areh", Vidhi said quickly removing her hand from over his mouth as he tried to bite her fingers. "Chaliye abhi bahut badmashi hogayi aapki. So jaiye abhi", she said, pushing him away.
"Areh itni jaldi kya hai? Tumhe aisa dekh kar toh mera firse badmashi karne ka mann kar raha hai", Dev said, rubbing his hands together with a wicked smile. "Sach batao jan bujhkar pehna hai na tumne meri t-shirt? Aur niche kuch nahi pehna hai na? Dikhao", Dev said, trying to lift up the t-shirt. ''Areh kya kar rahe aap?", Vidhi pulling down the t-shirt even more said, "Maine sirf isiliye pehna aapki t-shirt kyunki zyada comfortable hai yeh aur meri dress ko apne khud itni door fek diya." She pointed to her dress which was lying on the floor beside the sofa.
"Maine jaan bujh kar door feka. Agli baar khidki se bahar fekunga", Dev teased her.
Vidhi gave him a surprised and funny look. "Aisa kuch nahi karne waale hai aap. Teen dino mein mera college start hone wala hai, uske baad aap dekhna main kitni achchi bachchi ban jaungi, pura din padhai karungi aur kisi bhi cheez pe dhyan nahi dungi. Samjhe aap? Kisi bhi cheez pe nahi…", Vidhi said, trailing her fingers from his chest down to his abdomen and stopping at the waist line of his shorts.
Dev smiled listening to her talk about college. He had noticed this that whenever she talked about college, her eyes would catch a twinkle. There would be a different energy in her voice.
Dev lay down on the bed and pulled Vidhi over him. She rested her head over his chest and snuggled up to him placing her leg over his. Dev too pressed her close to himself. He scratched her back with his one hand and the other he placed over Vidhi's hand which she had put over his stomach.
"Bahut excited ho na college ke liye?", he asked. "Bahut bahut matlab itna zyada", she gestured with her hands. "Aapko pata hai maine toh sab decide bhi kar liya ki main kaunsa bag lungi, kaunsi dress pehenungi, kaunsi shoes pehenungi, sab sab kuch", Vidhi's excitement knew no bounds. It was similar to how a kid feels about their first day of school, the joy the new books, new stationary and new uniform give them. Dev laughed at her childish innocence.
He asked, "Achcha batao, kaunsa dress pehenogi?"
Vidhi said without a hesitation, "Woh pink anarkali suit hai na woh jo aapne mujhe gift kari thi woh."
Dev got startled, "Anarkali suit? College mein?" He got up.
"Kyun? Nahi pehen sakti?", Vidhi asked, pulling herself up.
"Pehen sakti ho, kyun nahi pehen sakti lekin Vidhi, college hai, shaadi function toh hai nahi. Har jagah ka ek dress code hota hai, haina? College main aksar log decent casuals main jaate hai. Tumhe toh pata hai. Toh tumhe nahi lagta ki Anarkali suit thoda zyada ho jayega? I mean tum khud socho last time jab tum college gayi thi tab kaisa environment tha, kaise kapde pehne the sab ne?", Dev explained.
Vidhi fell in deep thought. "Baat toh aapki bilkul sahi hai Dev ji lekin yahan toh mere paas sirf woh bhaari bhaari suits hi hai. Last time mein college, kurti mein gayi thi aur yahan toh mere paas ek bhi waisa simple kurti nahi hai. Saare purane kapde maa papa ke ghar pe hai. Mujhe jaake lana hoga Dev ji", she said, worried.
Dev came forward towards her face and kissed her affectionately on her cheeks. "Meri Vidhi puraane kapde pehenke college jayegi?", he held her hands. "Kal shyam 7 baje mujhe Phoenix Citadel Mall ke bahar milna. Main sidha office se wahi aaunga", he kissed her hands one by one.
Vidhi was thrilled, "I love you Dev ji", she said, hugging him.
Next day 7:20 pm at Phoenix Citadel
"Late hogaya mujhe firse.. Dev ji gussa na ho jaaye", Vidhi muttered as she got down from the car and walked hurriedly towards the entrance. Dev was already there. Seeing Vidhi approach, he held up his hand showing his watch to her. "Firse late", he said. Vidhi held her ears making a puppy face and whispering, "Sorry sorry". Dev smiled looking at her face. He shifted her hair to one side and placed his hand over her shoulder. They walked towards the mall.
As soon as they entered the mall, they were greeted by a stunning atrium, bathed in natural light and adorned with a beautiful water feature. Vidhi was spellbound. The sheer size of the mall and its grandeur was impressive. The architecture was elegant and sophisticated. Vidhi looked at it with wide eyes. She felt as if she had walked into a palace. She kept looking throughout like a curious child, the lights, the different shops, the lanes, the chandeliers, the water fountains, men, women, teens, couples, children, elderly all enjoying themselves, clicking photos, moving around. Vidhi was in awe.
And while she kept looking with wonder and astonishment, Dev just looked at her. He had been there numerous times before but he never felt what he was feeling at that point looking into Vidhi's eyes. He saw his whole universe, with all the stars and constellations in those innocent eyes. He knew most probably this was her first time visiting a mall. He felt so happy knowing that he was a part of it. He wanted to do this more often. Take her to new places, experience new things with her, do anything and everything she says, he wanted to give her the whole world, he wanted to see the world through her eyes.
"Yeh mall kitna bada hai Dev ji. Aap mera haath mat chorna warna mein pakka ghum ho jaungi", Vidhi said anxiously. Dev held her hands tightly and said, "Nahi chorunga, kabhi nahi chorunga."
Dev took her to a store. They were greeted as soon as they entered. "Main humesha yehi se shirts leta hoon. Iss brand ki speciality hai inka fabric bahut light aur breathable hoti hai", Dev said. Vidhi checked the place out. There was a different section for men and women. "Dev ji", Vidhi whispered, "Mahenga lag raha hai…" "Come on Vidhi kuch mahenga nahi hai, reasonable hai, aur tumhe price tag dekhne ki koi zarurat nahi hai. Samjhi?", Dev pulled her cheeks. Vidhi nodded.
She walked towards the women's section. Dev followed her. From romantic lace and flowy maxi dresses to edgy leather jackets and timeless trench coats, graphic tees, sweatpants and joggers, and sneakers, the colours and vibrancy was a feast to the eyes. She stopped infront of the traditional section. She touched a floral printed regular off-white kurta with trousers. It was simple yet beautiful. Vidhi looked at Dev and raised her eyebrows. Dev curved his lips and nodded. She put it in her shopping bag.
They went on to select some more, in different designs and different colours. Whenever Vidhi got confused between two similar choices, she turned towards Dev. Dev chose one for her and she without hesitation put that in her shopping bag.
A little later, Vidhi had gone too far from Dev browsing through the paradise of clothes. She stopped when she realised that it was the end of the women's section. And there began the kid's section. She stood there like a statue as she saw little kids running here and there. Baby boy and girl clothes hung everywhere infront of her eyes. Vidhi felt a lump in her throat, a tear at the corner of her eye. She tried to turn away but found herself physically incapable.
"Vidhi", Dev called out and stood beside her. Dev's voice broke open the floodgates in her. She placed her head against his chest, turning away from the kid's section and clutched his shirt, breathing heavily. Dev placed his hand on her face and kissed her head. "Sambhalo khud ko Vidhi, kya hogaya?", he said in a low tone. Vidhi got herself together and wiped away her tears. She looked at Dev. Dev tried to cheer her up. He held infront of her a kurti he was holding. "Yeh dekho tumhare liye kya laya hoon. Apne first din pe yeh pehenna tum", it was a gorgeous red kurti, sleeveless with a shirt collar. Vidhi agreed. "Dev ji, Chalte hai, bahut shopping hogayi", she said.
They were walking towards the billing counter when Vidhi suddenly stopped in front of a mannequin wearing a white vest with a black shirt over it and ripped jeans. "Dev ji aapne apne liye toh kuch liya hi nahi. Chaliye na, aapke liye bhi kuch lete hai", Vidhi almost dragged Dev inside the men's section.
"Yeh", Vidhi picked out a red and black checkered shirt while Dev stood beside the plain white shirt collection. "Nahi Dev ji bahut white shirt pehen liya. Ab yeh sab try kijiye na. Aap handsome lagenge", Vidhi tried to persuade him.
"Vidhi yaar yeh rang toh dekho kitne bright hai. Achcha chalo white nahi toh main yeh dusre light colour ke plain shirts leta hoon. I'm 46 yaar, yeh sab achche nahi lagenge jo tum bol rahi ho", Dev said.
"Kya 46, 46 lagake rakhi hai aapne?", lowering her voice, she said, "Raat ko toh bahut jawan bante ho ab kya huya?" Dev bit his tongue and looked around, "Vidhi kya tum bhi? Koi sun lega toh kya sochega?"
"Yeh nayi generation hai Dev ji. Koi kuch nahi sochega. Hum log bahut open-minded hai. Aap ek aisi lijiye na please", Vidhi requested Dev, pouting. Dev couldn't resist her innocent expression anymore. She was making the cutest faces. He leaned down and gave a gentle peck on her cheek. "Okay", he said. Vidhi quickly rubbed her cheek, blushing and said, "Ssss Dev ji, aap bhi na…."
Dev raised his eyebrows. "Areh tumhi ne toh kahan sab open, open.. Ab kya huya nayi generation ki ladki ko? Sharma gayi?", he laughed.
"Aap na bas chedte rahiye mujhe", she said, walking away and browsing the different shirts and t-shirts.
10:30 pm Dev and Vidhi's bedroom
Dev was sitting at his table, writing his diary. Vidhi entered the room. She looked around to find the shopping bags on the bed. She went through them once again and took out the clothes she had chosen for Dev. It was the red and black shirt and a deep blue round neck full sleeve tshirt. She took them to Dev and placed them on his lap.
"Areh Vidhi, Kya kar rahi ho?", Dev asked, confused. "Pehen kar dikhaiye na", Vidhi said. "Abhi? Baad mein pehenunga na", Dev seemed uninterested. "Please please please Dev ji", Vidhi started pleading. "Achcha okay okay lekin ek shart hai. Tumhe bhi woh red collar wala kurti pehenna hoga", Dev said. Vidhi nodded.
Dev took the shirts from her hand and went to the bathroom. After some time, Dev came outside wearing the blue tshirt. He had the sleeves up upto his elbow and was undoubtedly, looking handsome and different. Vidhi looked at him, flabbergasted and open-mouthed. He came near her and snapped his fingers infront of her eyes. She couldn't find words to speak just made moved her hands haphazardly.
Dev smiled seeing her like this. He stood infront of the mirror and adjusting his hair said, "Thik thak lag raha hoon na?" Vidhi hugged him from behind and said, "Thik thak, Dev ji? Aap ekdum dhaayein lag rahe hai." Dev had a hearty laugh. "Achcha chalo abhi tumhari baari", Dev said handing her the kurti.
"Thik hai main yeh pehen kar aati hoon tab tak aap bahar i uss shirt mein change kar lijiye", Vidhi said on her way to the washroom. Dev removed his tshirt and standing infront of the mirror, changed into the other shirt.
After some time, Vidhi came out wearing the red kurti and white leggings beneath that. Dev turned around and it was time for his jaw to drop seeing her. Actually, both of them kept looking at each other in their new attire.
Vidhi came close towards him and, adjusting his shirt's collar, placed her hand on his chest. Dev still couldn't even bat his eyelashes for once. Vidhi in red, has always been his weak point. Vidhi stood infront of him and both of them looked in the mirror.
"Vidhi you look so smart", Dev said running his hands on her smooth arms. Vidhi turned pink seeing his gaze fixed on her. "Hum dono kitne achche lag rahe hai na.. Matching matching kapdo mein", she said.
Dev kissed her cheek and said, "Hmmm." "Waise Vidhi", he continued, "Jab bhi tum yeh kurti pehen kar bahar jaogi toh achche se sindoor lagana aur ho sake toh mangal sutra bahar rakhna", he said innocently. Vidhi burst out laughing, hearing this. "Ek minute yehi rukiye", she said.
She came back with her mobile. "Ek mirror selfie", she said. Dev stood behind her looking at the mirror as she positioned the camera for a selfie. *click* *click*
She kept clicking as both of them made different faces. But right about then Dev with a mischievous smile, leaned down, and his lips brushed in the side of her neck, causing her breath to shudder. He nibbed on her sweet spot gaining a whimpering moan from her. Sucking off her breath, he gave her a tingling sensation all over her body which made her close her eyes in anticipation. Her finger, almost involuntarily enough, managed to keep clicking, capturing all these moments for which Vidhi couldn't keep her eyes open, before Dev took the mobile from his hand and kept it on the nearby table.
He turned Vidhi towards him and lifting her in his arms, carried her to the bed. Vidhi's lips twitched forming a delighted smile as she looked into the eyes of Dev and thanked God for sending her an angel.
Thank you for the update!! I love your story!! Can't wait for Vidhi to go to college and you can actually explore the age related issues in your story.
