Two years on the show...
It's over now. The show took a leap of 18 years, so I left it. I was not ready for such a generation leap. I personally wanted to be a part of the show because I had emotional attachment with the concept of the show. But all of a sudden, the show took a leap and in accordance I was supposed to play the mother of two daughters who were my age (laughs). So in view of my career as an actor, I thought it would be better to leave the show.
So you have taken a long break after two years...
I'm out on a holiday after two years. TV shows are very tough, very hectic. When you shoot for a daily soaps, your personal life goes for a toss – you don't get to see your family or friends, or attend family weddings or functions. But karna padta hai, it's a part of our profession. After 13-14 hours of shoot, even if I want to sit with my parents, I can't. Sacrifices toh karne padte hain, but I'm doing it by choice, so I'm happy with it.
How did the show happen?
I auditioned for the show and the channel people liked my work. When they narrated the storyline, I immediately said yes, as the concept of the show somewhere struck a chord in my heart. Generally all the shows we watch on TV are same, but this was something that was different. I'm glad that I got this opportunity so early in my career as it gave me a chance to work with senior actors and experts from the industry. I've learnt a lot from everyone on this show. The character of Siya was atypical, but she marries into the family she was fighting against.In everyone's life there are phases where love and marriage dictate your actions. That is what happened to Siya as well. Girls are very emotional, when they are in love with someone, their life just revolves around that person.
Are you feeling emotional...after all you gave it two years?
Yeah. People loved Siya's character. I'm wonderfully surprised that though Siya is dead in the show, her popularity has increased by leaps and bounds. People from across the country are saying that they loved the character, and that the serial is now proceeding without its soul. To be honest, at times you feel betrayed. I have been a part of the show since its beginning. Jis din show ki shooting shuru hui thi, I was the only one who was there, and then suddenly I got the news that the show was taking a leap, I felt cheated. It felt really bad, but I had no other option. Trust me, without any exaggeration, it was very painful...like giving my own baby in someone else's hand and saying 'Ab aap isko bada karo' types.
What now?
Talks are on for some daily shows, but I'm taking it a little slow. After playing Siya, I don't want to do something drastically different from her character or something very close to it. I will wait for something that makes me say, 'yeah I want to do this' after "Na Aana Iss...".
Will we be seeing you as a typical bahu?
No. Though I am getting a lot of offers for bahu type roles, I want to do what is meaningful and appealing to me.
What about Bollywood?
Not right now, I am a beginner, just at the start of my career and I need to learn a lot. But who doesn't want to work in films. I would die to work with Aamir Khan and Bachchan sahab. They are just superb.
Can women actors get all fine? Bollywood says otherwise. What is your take?
I have heard about spats, but we were five to six females and all of us shared a very healthy relationship. We all were like a family, we understood each other, and each other's mood swings also.
Love life...
Not right now. There is nobody in my life at the moment. I might get married tomorrow, I might never get married in my life – all that completely depends on meeting the right guy. If I meet someone and I feel that yes he is 'the one', then I will get married tomorrow.
So still looking?
Definitely.
Arranged or love?
I've asked my parents to look for a match. I'm also looking myself. All options are open.
