Round 2: Shankar Mahadevan

Big Round for Shankar and K.K.

I consulted people from both sides...and both sides have a song they wanted nominated.

This song is a great motivator. Waah.
10 on 10.

excellent lyrics. the up-beat fast part is just amazing, gives goose-bumps, great sur is consistent even in those parts. the lower-notes are sung so well and clear. it shows the amazing talent of Shankar ji clearly. would like to give a 10 on 10 to this number.

Amazing performance and great song selection. Nothing short of 10 should suffice👏

Two male voices singing seem to cover each other so I cannot give a full 10 as KK is doing a fantastic good job but here we are judging only Shankar ji.

OK - setting 5 as average.

Most of the tune has little to make it anything above average in terms of difficulty. In terms of composition, the simple, regimented beat is very apt for a militaristic song. However, that doesn't add to the difficulty of signing.

The part that IS difficult is the high pitch sustained for 'Lakshya toh har haal mein paana hai' - excellently done. ALL the high pitch portions are very good. Unfortanely, for me that is just one element and can add a max. of 2.5 marks to a rendition.

The only mistake I could detect in this nearly flawless performance is the pronunciation of 'mushqil'. It's not mushkil with a hard K - it's mushQil like in music ka maha muQabla! Saq, who has a better knowledge of Urdu than me has told me that it IS in fact mushkil, so Shankarji pronounced it correctly :)

So that brings the song up to 7.5 out 10 for me - what do the judges and audience think? Should I give it an 8 or a 7?

Definitely an 8 out of those.

So for this nearly flawless performance, where he mispronounced 1 word, and that had some very difficult portions (this song is more difficult than any song this round) , you went from a 10 to 7.5? 😆
He had a difficult portion, that was 3 lines long, not just 1, and he did it numerous times.

And I guess the audience hates Shankar Mahadevan the most.

It starts out with some clear singing, kind of easy, but cleanly done.
But then with this sequence

Roke tujhko aandhiyaan, ya zameen aur aasmaan
Paayega jo lakshya hai tera
Lakshya toh har haal mein paana hai

he first shows power in his voice, and then does an excellent job in raising his voice and does all the high pitches (which were pretty high) perfectly. Just brilliant! And he does that sequence above a couple of times, making this the toughest song to sing in this round. That sequence is VERY tough to song and I don't think any other singer had a challenge that tough this whole song.
Also, he sings this song with great feel as well, getting the message to the listener and making him feel how one is supposed to feel listening to the lyrics. Amazing clarity and talent display in this Round by Shankar Mahadevan!

Overall, it was flawless for me, and his high pitches were just amazing as was his whole singing throughout the whole song. Flawless usually gets a 9 for me, but doing something else with it like Shankar Mahadevan did this round, is a 10 for me!
