However, at many times she did lose her voice quality, particularly when she went higher in the main sequences, for a split second she lost it in the transition going higher.

And then in the post-main sequences, her high pitches weren't that good, at times you were probably thinking she could go higher, and at other times I think her voice started screeching a bit when it got higher.

So I'm surprised xobile gave this a 10. Because xobile usually cuts points when the singer doesn't hit their high notes. Which it was clear Alka wasn't comfortable at in this song.

I don't think this was a good selection for Alka this round. Though the song demanded a lot, I think the 90s Alka would've sang this a lot better and it was too much to ask for for 2000's Alka.

Still a very difficult song to sing

Yep you're right - I do not like badly sung high notes.

But in this song, Alkaji did reach the high notes, without a considerable loss of tonal quality. So her voice did not sound too changed/thinned. Plus she didn't get nasal - which is a tendency at high notes. Not only that, these notes were very high! That degree of thinning is expectable and I won't complain. 😃

I wanted 'Jhute Ilzaam' to be the selection for Alka for this round. 😍

xobile I used to think your 10s were hard to achieve and you had to be flawless. If you are giving 00s Alka 10's for some of her best in the 00s, then what would you give the 90s Alka? Unless you think 00s Alka is just as good as she was when she was younger (It's going to be hard to find people agreeing you with there). I mean you are basically saying Alka not at her best is 10. Than what is Alka at her best? You said 10 was Lataji caliber singing, something more than just amazing. So what if a 00s Alka can get 10s back to back from you, what does that say about the 90s Alka for you? Great singer of all-time???

I agree she hit most of the high notes very well, surprised me too. But in some transitions she did lose some tone quality, like when she was singing the main sequence and she went high, during the transition there was some lose of tonal quality.

For example,

Uljha sa ye mann hai, sulgha sa ye tann hai
Sapnon ka saawan hai, nainon ka aangan hai

both times when she says "hai" as she is going to high pitch, there some lose of tonal quality.

I mean I understand this was a very difficult song to sing. But I"m just saying it was not flawless. Even you agree with that. Alka in the 90s could've handeled this better. I mean once again, this was an amazing performance, the post-main sequences were really good, and at some of the very high notes her voice got a little squeky, but the notes were VERY high.

So I'm just asking. If Alka from the 00s gets 10s, something you said you would only give to ______ (something related to Lata or something), then what is Alka's 90s?

Just because I gave 10/10 to one or two songs doesn't mean I'm saying Alka in the 2000's was 10/10 throughout.

Losing tonal quality at such high notes is not a flaw in my book.

That's all I can say right now. I cannot get into a discussion right now - I won't be able to spend any time on this forum for the next four days.

Thanks

Great singing once again by Alka Yagnik!

This was indeed a difficult song. I didn't pay attention to the difficulty the first time I heard it, but it is quite difficult. Asking a lot from the singer in high portions, to singing with the best and creating rhythm. This is the best I've seen in a while from Alka in high pitches. Great job! There were some times though I felt she lost some tonal quality (as I referenced to earlier) Nonetheless, overall, her voice quality and singing talent was just amazing in this song. Good composition by AR Rehman as well.

This performance was really close to a 10, but its next to other performances that were really close to 10. So...

Rating: 9/10
