I agree with xobile completely on this one. First of all, great singing by Alka on this. In the high pitches she just SLIGHTLY drops, but overall, she sings so soothingly and nice. I've listened to this 2-3 times as well. I don't think there has been a playback singer in the last 20 years that can portray a bollywood actress better than Alka Yagnik. Once, again, nice, soothing, and nearly perfect for me.

@xobile : I guess it was a very good post from you and good score too..Though Alka is not my favourite (actually shreya is 😉 ) but i disagree on just one point of your post..the point that her voice gets thinner on high notes..Dude except sunidhi chauhan in presenr generation no one has great range..even my fav shreya gets too thin on higher notes..listen to her agar tum mil jao song or any other high pitched ones.. I agree that alka gets very sharp sometimes but it sometimes depends on the song too..In mere humsafar song however i guess she has done amazing job even at high pitch..though i agree in some other of her songs she has not done as well..but we are judging how one has sung the song and not her singing capabilities..So dont give the score based on your notions about her..just give on the basis of her singing..here she deserves 10/10..9 is a gross injustice on your part 😉

So you agree that Alkaji is not comfortable with high notes, but in this song you think she has managed well. I do agree there, but also think she sounded a bit screechy in the high portions. I can't give a ten because that is reserved for a rendition of the calibre of Ashaji in Umrao Jaan or Lataji in Lekin.

As I've said before, 9 out of 10 is a very, very harsh score. But you have to be harsh when comparing between amazing and amazing.

Of course, anyone who disagrees with me has a LOT of good reasons: the voice is sweet, the emotion is expressed imeccably and we can ALL relate to this voice. But those people are free to give her ten on ten in the audience poll!

Alka ji is a very experienced and great singer. she has a most lovely voice and full control.
Shreya too sounds great but it is not as powerful as Alka ji as she has a much softer tone.
Anyway we are judging based on a particular song performance and not in general.

@ Summerji

Exactly, we are judging on this performance only.

yes personally I like all the singers and I am not in a position to judge them, they are just too good.
I think each of the singers has her own strong points and forte. That is why these days they use a variety of singers for different song types.

^^ Yeah you are right, summerji! It is very hard to differentiate between these singers. Thankfully we don't have to compare singers here: we just need to compare performances. And in today's round two performances really touched me the most: Mere Humsafar and Chup Chupke.

What about you?
