'I felt gorgeous'

Says Gaurav Gera about playing a woman in his new TV show, adds that he's been getting compliments for it

I'd heard waxing is painful, so I opted to get my arms and legs shaved instead. — Gaurav Gera, actor

Gaurav Gera, best known for playing Nandu in the popular TV show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, is back on the tube in a new avatar. The actor plays the role of Mrs Pammi Pyarelal, a man who is forced to dress as a woman to rent a house. The promos of the show have created immense buzz. In this candid chat, Gaurav talks about the unique role.

Why did you choose this role?

I've been a sucker for good work and have always done stuff I'm proud of. I love taking up roles that others wouldn't usually choose or are unable to do justice to.

What kind of preparation went into playing this character?

Playing a woman is one thing but playing a pretty one is quite another. I felt gorgeous when I saw one of my shots. But physically, it is draining. The clothes and jewellery have to be right, not to mention the heels. I started with smaller heels and have now moved on to bigger ones. The wig is held together with clips; it is painful. I already had pierced ears, which was a help, but the earrings that I wear on the show are heavy. I'd heard waxing is painful, so I opted to get my arms and legs shaved instead. Though I'm not a foodie, I have been monitoring my food intake. I drink green tea as it helps cut fat, so that my stomach can look better.

It takes around two hours to get ready. We have to hide the beard and paint my whole body to match the face. After pack-up, I have to take a long and tedious bath to remove the makeup.

What kind of reactions have you been getting?

People say I have lovely ankles, hands and collarbones. I have been getting compliments for my eyes especially. Perhaps, the make-up enhances them.

After Jassi..., you were seen in Tota Weds Maina. Where were you in the interim?

I was busy doing ads and corporate events as nothing interesting was coming my way. I've also been busy with a musical called Jhumroo, a two-hour show that features stunts besides the singing and

dancing.
