in acting. He says,"I always wanted to do something big in life and my attraction to fame and
glamour world was always there. I also felt that as an actor one can live through different
characters and understand their nuances. So I have always dreamt of being an actor and I
wouldn't say that it happened by chance, but would say that I have been working hard towards
my dream." But for perusing his career in acting , he needed his parents permission, although
he had convinced his mom, it took 5 years to convince his father to peruse career in Acting,
there after his father gave him a deadline of 6 months, if within 6 months to prove himself.
And Mohit Sehgal headed towards his Dream-ACTING..!! It was tough for Mohit in Mumbai,
as he was not from Mumabi plus he knew nothing about television industry. But hardwork,
passion and willingness opens a way and same happened for Mohit Sehgal. There came a turning
point of his life when he got his first show 'Miley Jab Hum Tum' Mohit Sehgal played
lead character Samrat Shergill.
His first impression: 22nd September 2008, Was the fateful day that changed the lives of all Mohitians, as we got the first glimpse of him playing Samrat in miley jab hum tum. One could immediately feel that there was something special about the boy who is playing Samrat in the show apart from the very good looks that instantly grab your attention, the dark intense eyes, dark eyebrows, perfectly shaped jaw line, amazingly silky hair and most of all that heart racing dimpled smile made him look like someone who came straight out of a romance novel. He also had that inherent charm and vulnerability in him that just makes you feel so giddy all over and you want to keep on looking at him and keep asking for more. That's how Mohit Sehgal entered our hearts for the first and last time because he has never left ever since then.[/CENTER]
Because Mohit in real life is the most close to Samrat the effortless charm and charisma, the genuine smile, the unconditional support he gives, the warmth and goodness that oozes out of him makes him the ideal choice for Samrat because you have to live it to be convincing enough for the audience and Mohit is the real life living breathing version of Samrat. No wonder he rules our hearts and we dream about him because he represents the "ideal guy" who in today's time is a very rare thing.
Speaking of Samrat's chemistry with Gunjan, they had a beautiful journey which started as friends then turned to best friends and then lovers.
Their romance was simple and subtle and was based upon deep emotion and understanding rather than physical attraction. There was affection, there was friendship and most of all there was immense respect. Their love was selfless and forgiving beyond the worldly issues and fights. The connection was so deep that they could read each other's minds and could speak through their eyes no words needed. In short their love story represented true selfless mature love in all it's glory. The kind of relationship everyone wishes to have in real life because it was perfect there were no egos or anger or jealousy involved just pure never ending love.
Samrat wasn't just an ideal lover, he was an amazingly supportive friend and a very giving and loving brother. His equation and bonding from Mayank to Uday to Nupur to Suhaani in short with everyone was memorable and amazing, that is why he was one of the most lovable characters of the show and also the character that he played for the longest period onscreen (2 years to be exact) Also it's his most popular character and people still remember him by it. And that's because it is the most well written character that Mohit has played till date. Because the growth that Samrat had shown during the course of the show had been phenomenal to say the least.
From the carefree Casanova, to the friend in need, from the selfless supportive lover to the shattered and broken Samrat of season 2 and then back to the more mature and responsible Samrat. Mohit had played every shade and how!! Despite being very raw initially he managed to truly shine and make his mark as Samrat. And made the character his own. Mohit might play many characters that we would absolutely love in the future but Samrat would always remain special as our first love.
After playing and excelling in a character like Samrat, Mohit after a very long and excruciatingly difficult wait of two years finally came back as Sidharth Kapoor an NRI from England who was engaged to the main protagonist Gauri in Mujh Se Kehti Hain Kuch Yeh Khamoshiyaan.
After coming back from the mega success of Miley Jab Hum Tum and a strong character like Samrat, the expectations from the show were sky high. The story of two NRIs falling in love sounded too good on paper. But alas the show was nothing as the fans had imagined it to be. Although Mohit gave his best shot to Sidharth but the character wasn't written the way Samrat was. Sidharth was a rich NRI businessman who really loved and supported his fianc Gauri through thick and thin. He was mature and sensible and gave good advice to her. But alas didn't had his own back story nor was he backed up powerfully by the script and ended up just being the fianc.
Also the love story between Sid and Gauri was never developed in the show. They were shown engaged from the first episode itself which kinda made it hard for the audience to connect to the couple or feel any chemistry between them.
And finally Mohit also realized that he got tricked by the production house with this show as it was nothing he had imagined it to be and he made the sensible decision of leaving the show just in 2 months time. The show which was a lost cause anyways ended shortly after he left. Because a show is driven by content and when it lacks it, it cannot survive anyway.
That was the most difficult period for Mohit and his fans. But we had faith in his talent we knew what he was capable of after witnessing the amazing Samrat. Therefore we kept patient and waited hoping that he would rise like the phoenix from the ashes and rise he did. Because there is no big teacher in life than failure. The debacle of Khamoshiyaan gave him his biggest lesson as an actor that is to give first priority to his character and not to take too long to comeback on television. So after a few months only we got the character that got him back into the game.
Haider Sheikh was an important new character that was introduced into an already ongoing hit show Qubool Hai. The production house was well known( 4 lions) and the character sketch was really promising as he was a layered and grey shaded character of a carefree, charming casanova( Aah the Samrat hangover) but he was also a self made businessman with a hidden agenda which was revenge from the murderers of his parents.
Haider had multiple shades and layers to him, from the fun loving carefree flirt, to the caring brother and the angry young man thirsty for vengeance and justice. Mohit had to play all of it together. It was his first big challenging role that required him to change his expressions and demeanour within the blink of an eye and do it convincingly, he'd be playful and naughty in one instance and in the other would change to evil and mean, the stark contradiction is what made the character really intriguing.
And he delivered and how! Not only was he damn convincing as Haider, he also managed to hold his own in front of ace veteran performers like Alkaji and Tej Sapru. Haider is hands down Mohit's best performance till date which not only earned him more fans but also silenced his critics as it established Mohit as the strong actor and performer, also getting him international acknowledgement in the form of an AVTA for the best actor in a supporting role.
His chemistry with Surbhi Jyoti as her brother was loved and appreciated by each and everyone. While the love hate equation with Humaira( Ketki Kadam) also managed to grab eyeballs and woo the audience.
After receiving the acknowledgement and appreciation for Haider, things started changing for the better for Mohit as not just the audience but also the makers took notice of his talent. Offers started pouring in from ace producers like Ekta Kapoor and Saurabh Tiwari instantly and while he did sign Saurabh's show it couldn't go on air unfortunately. But destiny had other things planned for him and another ace producer Rashmi Sharma immediately roped him in for Sarojini.
So far Mohit had done the best written role and the most challenging role in his career so far, but he was yet to step out of his comfort zone and attempt a character that would be extremely different from him in real life a complete flip and makeover. That's how Somendra came into the picture where the handsome and sophisticated Delhi boy Mohit needs to play a rowdy rough guy from UP complete with the accent and mannerisms. It's the most demanding role for Mohit as he had to not only change his expression but also change is dressing style, body language and speech.
Dressed in flashy shirts, mouthing loud dialogues full of attitude in that UP accent. Beating the hell out of the goons. All strong, rough and tough and manly Somendra reminds you of a Hindi masala film hero and movies like wanted and dabang. Powerful, impactful and full of attitude. The ultimate alpha male which was a complete break out from his early charming and chocolaty boy image. The boy has now grown in to a man and how! He managed to stun the audience with this completely different avatar and shined here as well. We still can't get over how magically he has transformed that we only see Somendra onscreen not Mohit at all.
The angry Somendra sets our pulse racing while his cute and romantic gestures make us go Awww simultaneously.
Speaking of romance his onscreen chemistry with Shiny Doshi has managed to impress from the first promo itself. They compliment each other extremely well and make a really good-looking onscreen jodi so much so that you can't help but vouch and root for them to end up together always in the show. The audience is extremely eager to watch their romance bloom fully in the show and their love story to get explored to it's maximum potential because the most beautiful looking couple currently deserves no less.
Here is also hoping that Somendra keeps getting better and better in the show and his journey is shown beautifully so that we could enjoy it completely along with Mohit. May this also proves to be another feather in the cap for him and things only start getting bigger and better for him here onwards. Because Mohit the fabulous actor and Mohit the gem of a human being deserves nothing but the best and as his fans we will always be wishing and hoping for it. Mohit may you reach the very pinnacle of success in your life and get to play many many more characters that we could write books about emerging better and stronger with each and every one of them as this is just the beginning...
