Mona Wasu
Mona "Miilee" Wasu is all set to go to Pakistan in November-end for a drama series called Tere Ishq Mein. The short story will have Mona shooting in Islamabad for about two weeks, and will be told in 13 episodes.

Pakistan bound

"Yes, I am doing a Pakistani series," confirms the excited actress. "I will be going to Pakistan and we'll shoot there for about 15 days. I play the central character in this short story."

How did the role come about? "I got a call from the producer of the series, Mr Hassan. He sent me the script of the first three episodes; I really liked the story and felt the character had scope to experiment. I've heard he has worked with Indian actors like Juhi Parmar and Divya Dutta in the past. We've yet to finalise other details," she says.

Wasu shastra

"I am thrilled to be doing my very first Pakistani project. But my happiness has another reason — I am very eager to visit Pakistan, as I'll get a chance to visit my ancestral place.

My grandparents were from a small village in Pakistan, called Wasu. After they came to India, the inhabitants took the name of the village as their surname. My grandfather became Paramjeet Singh Wasu. We will be shooting in Islamabad, which is 150 miles from the village.

My mother will accompany me for the shoot, while my father will be coming towards the end of the schedule. We'll then make a trip to our ancestral village. We're very excited; this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us," she exults.

Intense story

"I play Neha, the daughter of an Indian mother and Pakistani father. She sets out to Pakistan to look for her father.

There she meets a man who helps her and they fall in love. I was playing Miilee for so long, I've forgotten how to play another character. This will be a welcome change. I want to experiment with this character. She's very different from Miilee; Neha is about 28, more mature, and the story is more intense," says Wasu.

The actress is clear about her future plans, "I am doing a couple of ads, but ultimately, I want to do films. Which is why I want to pick different kinds of roles that showcase my talent and scope. I don't want to be typecast."

Miilee on Miilee

"We've finished one year and are now shooting for the 107th episode. In the future, I tell Rahul (Ajay Gehi) that I don't love him and he gets married to Neena (Sonali Malhotra).

The track may have me get more involved with Karan. Plus I am unable to leave home as I am very close to dadima. There's a lot of drama in the serial now, but I am told the track will soon return to being lighthearted and fun," smiles Wasu.

Personal front

Wasu is guarded while talking about the slightly uncertain phase in her personal relationship. She reveals, "I was seeing fashion photographer Jeetu Savlani for about two years, and now we've decided to be just friends. We are two very different people. We're in a no-commitment phase; nothing is decided as yet. Right now, I am concentrating on my career."

Bharadwaj's first Pakistani project

Vishal Bharadwaj
Confirms Vishal Bharadwaj, "Yes, the producers of the series approached me for the rights of a song I had composed. I released a Sufi album, Ishqua Ishqua this year, for my wife Rekha.

She has also sung the songs and Gulzar has written the lyrics. The album became extremely popular in Pakistan.

The producers said that they liked the song Tere ishq mein so much, they wanted to name the story after it. The song will also be the title track of the series."

"How does he feel about his first Pakistani project? "I am very excited. I think this is the first time an Indian song will be used officially and legally, with permissions in place," he laughs.

Bharadwaj is looking forward to begining his Aamir-Kareena starrer Mr Mehta and Mrs.

Singh and the release of The Blue Umbrella, in December. "We've got some great snow shots. The Blue Umbrella stars a little girl called Shreya Sharma, along with Pankaj Kapur," says the director.
