Hardly had Khyati Khandke entered the SaharaOne daily, Woh Rehne Waali Mahlon Ki, that she finds herself being out of it. Sonia Rakkar (Kukarmati of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge) will now play Neha in the drama.
It may be recalled that Reena Kapoor (Rani) preferred being 'dead' rather than play 'mother' to a grown-up after the generation leap. Initially, she had decided to opt out. But now she is back playing daughter Pari.
The character of Neha was introduced as Prince's second wife. This makes Neha the stepmother of Pari. Moreover, Prince and Neha would have their own daughter, Khushi (Krishna Kohli).
What it means is that Khyati would be playing stepmother to Reena — something that looked a tad incongruous on screen. Khyati is slim and of small frame while Reena would tower over her.
Not convinced
So is that the reason why Khyati opted out? "When you are not convinced upon playing a character, there is no point doing it. Things were getting uncomfortable. But I enjoyed my working even though it was a short spell with the Barjatyas," says Khyati.
Producer Kavita Barjatya says, "We took this decision to replace Khyati with Sonia. I prefer to term this as a new season rather than a leap. A leap means that the parents become grandparents and sometimes the viewer is not able to accept it. So we decided to bring in Sonia as she looked like Neha. Moreover, Khyati was busy with her shoot of Kesar."
Adds Khyati, "I will now have time with my one-and-a-half-year-old son Kanha."
Sonia is gung-ho about the show and began shooting on Thursday. "I am back doing a soap after a long time," she says. "Being Kukarmati made me feel like Kader Khan!"
She has designed a special look for herself inspired by the way Mumtaz dressed up in films. "I wear lots of bangles on one hand with a tattoo on the other arm," adds Sonia, who was earlier seen in Zindagi Terri Merri Kahaani and Ek Tukda Chand Ka. |
