The quran is believed to have revealed in two revelations.

First revelation from Allah to Lawl al Maqtoom (the preserved tablet). This happened during the night of Layl athul Qadr (Night of Decree)

Second revelation was to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over a period of 23 yrs.
