Hi - I think I understand what you have written and, I don't agree that this applies in this case. What benefits are there for me to know how much Rishi or Starmer or Mo Salah paid in tax? Or maybe my neighbours or the local shopkeeper? In the UK very few people know how much each other earn. It is considered private information that is shared with your employers and the tax authorities only.
The distribution of income across all major Eurpean ecomonies is not too different. However, there are significant cultural differences that may create that impression. The open flaunting of wealth in Scandanavia is generally frowned upon and considered vulgar. In the UK it has become much more fashionable in some quarters. That said, I do think the gulf between top and bottom deciles is becoming too wide and as a society we should look to narrow it, not increase it.
===========================
Don't get me wrong HazelyCosmicJive, I'm not someone who covets the wealth of others, and I try to evaluate things with the cold objectivity of numbers. I know that a very wealthy person, beyond a certain amount of annual earnings, pays a high percentage of taxes on his individual tax base. For example, I know that, above a certain amount, you pay 39.5% tax on your earnings in the United States. Here in Italy, roughly always on the same amounts, a good 43% of individual taxes are paid. But what I'm only seeing now is that you have even higher taxes in the UK than we do here. Namely these.
Personal allowance Up to £12,570
0%
Basic rate £12,571–50,270
20%
Higher rate £50,271–150,000
40%
Additional rate £150,001+
45%
That is, if I collect £1,000,000, about £450,000 goes into asphalt for the streets, salaries for firefighters, light bulbs (perhaps short-lived) for public street lamps in your city. So, you even have 2% more taxes, compared to the already very high maximum rate in force in my state. Obviously, the total is a little lower, because on the first £50,270 you only have to pay 20%, but they already ask you for 40% from the second band and, in my opinion, that's already a lot. There was a period in which I paid 34% in taxes on a significant portion of my income. It was a heavy draw. But I managed to lead a more than decent life all the same. I mean, if I hear that you made £10 million last year, and that was your actual income, knowing about those percentages, inside of me I wish with all my heart that next year you will be able to collect 20 million pounds. Because I know that roughly £9 million will go into new beds in hospital wards, salaries for nursery teachers, new State Police cars, and so much more. You will always have my gratitude. And my blessing. I'll tell you more, I would try to make sure that no one, no matter how high his income, ever pays more than I did. That's 34% of his total yearly personal income. Because then, beyond that percentage, the more you go from being a taxpayer to being a hero. roughly £9m will go into new beds in hospital wards, salaries for nursery teachers, new State Police cars, and much more. "If you look carefully at a fascist, below, below, you will always find a bully hidden in him. If you look carefully at a communist, below, below, you will always find an envious man hiding inside" I don't think it was the good Confucius who said it, but it makes little difference
who he said it. Here, I try to keep a safe distance from both categories. But I am me. You are you. The problem is that there are many of us in this world. Always speaking in set phrases, in his dialogues, the good Confucius also always repeated this sentence here.
"Human justice is like a spider's web. The little gnat always gets entangled in it. The big hornet always crosses it. Almost without realizing it"
Men are like that. And, if you're a few years old like me, you'll have noticed it too, generally those who have nothing give you everything, and those who have everything never give you anything. It is almost a law of Physics, rather than a law of Economics, or of Sociology. I am convinced that, from the day that Man appeared on the face of the Earth, things have always gone the same way. In Ancient Egypt a caste of scribes, aristocrats and priests has always tried to float above an indistinct rabble reduced to starvation. Only those who belonged to the caste of scribes could become a scribe themselves. At least that's what it said in my elementary school history books. And I thought that ancient world was deeply unfair.
But then I discovered, growing up, that in the country where I live the licenses to have a pharmacy have been handed down for generations, by inheritance, always to the same members of a family of pharmacists. I learn that the qualifying exams as a lawyer, organized by the Italian Bar Association, nine times out of ten pass a person who had a father, or a mother, who was already a lawyer. What's worse, is that in the hospital wards there is the same trend. That in certain university faculties, the surname of the faculty rector appears 30 times repeated, within a staff of a few dozen people. In short, nothing new under the sun. Everything repeats itself unchanged, in other forms, more or less like in the times of Tutankhamun. I think you are a little better off in England than here. But, scratching under the paint, I think the same dynamics occur there as well. After all, you coined the term "Establishment." In India they call them "Caste", in Russia they called it "Nomenklatura", or people who, within a country which, in theory, was supposed to level everything and everyone, in any case led a much more comfortable life than many others. It almost seems that this world is made for someone to fool some people, and those other people are meant to be fooled.But basically, if you just stop and think about it, your whole life has always been dotted with crossroads, where you could do, either the right thing, or the thing you would have benefited from, almost always unfairly. you coined the term "Establishment". And everyone, or almost everyone, was convinced that, at each of those crossroads, we were alone, and that no one saw the choice we made. While, on the other hand, there was someone who not only saw what we did, but also read the dark thoughts that went through our heads in those moments (1). In short, open the window of your house tonight, and look at the stars: those billions of little lights you see, have been placed on purpose as a choreography to a Planet, the only one where life has appeared, which evenings for nothing but from passino to remove the blowflies and cockroach. He is a God who has hidden himself, on purpose, to ensure that the smart and arrogant types, day after day, build the rope for their own noose.

While he was in Jerusalem for the Passover, during the feast many, seeing the signs he did, believed in his name. [24] But Jesus did not confide in them, because he knew everyone [25] and did not need anyone to bear witness to him about another, for he knew what was in every man.

In those days John the Baptist appeared to preach in the desert of Judea, [2] saying: "Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near!". [3] He is the one who was announced by the prophet Isaiah when he said: Voice of one crying in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord, straighten his paths! [4] John wore a camel's hair garment and a leather girdle around his loins; his food was locusts and wild honey. [5] Then they flocked to him from Jerusalem and from all Judea and from the area bordering the Jordan; [6] and confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. [7] However, seeing many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: "Brood of vipers! Who prompted you to shirk the coming wrath? [8] Therefore bear fruit worthy of repentance, [9] and do not think you can say among yourselves: We have Abraham for a father. I tell you that God can raise children of Abraham out of these stones. [10] Already the ax is placed at the root of the trees: every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. [11] I baptize you with water for repentance; but he who comes after me is mightier than I, and I am not even worthy to wear his sandals; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire. Be very careful that your hearts do not become weighed down with dissipations, drunkenness and the cares of life and that that day does not suddenly fall upon you; [35] like a snare it shall fall upon all who dwell upon the face of all the earth. [36] Watch and pray at all times, that you may have the strength to escape all that is to come, and to stand before the Son of Man."
