It is not often that you see a turban-sporting hero in Hindi films or serials. Though Singh is King and Gaddar changed it to some extent, it is still considered rarety. Piyush Sahdev, better known as Kulwant Singh from Meet Mila De Rabba is one such person who has shot into limelight as one of the most popular male leads in television today. "In fact, if I am not mistaken, I am the first Sardar male lead in Indian television!" says Piyush. "Kulwant Singh is a tailor made role for me and I thank God for giving me this opportunity in Meet Mila De Rabba." Piyush had to work hard to fit into the role and lost 10 kilos to look suitable for his role and also did some daredevil stunts in the initial episodes. "Those were required to bring out the proper emotion. To ensure that I look and behave like a Sardar, despite not being one, I grew my beard and stopped shaving and following the rituals of a Sardar," says the actor is popular amongst all sections of the audience. "In fact, just a few days back I got a call from a mother and her daughter and both said that they loved me a lot. They were very fond of my character and congratulated me. I was quite happy to know that I was liked by both the generations," says an excited Piyush. "There was another incident which made me feel very happy and content. Recently when our unit was shooting in a Gurudwara, a Gujarati famly waited there till the wee hours just to have a chat with me. What made me feel really honoured was the fact that the entire family was there and everyone said they liked me and my performance." Piyush is a family man, who shares his free time with his ailing mother who is suffering from cancer. |
