'I like to see myself on the big screen'

So is it the lack of Bollywood offers that has her making her comeback on the small screen?

DEEPALI DHINGRA

She made her debut with the likes of Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan, but while these actors went ahead to create a name for themselves in Bollywood, Madhoo somehow became a few films wonder. After making a mark for herself in films like Phool Aur Kaante and Roja, a spate of B grade films couldn't do anything to revive her career. Although the pretty lady has been a regular at page three affairs, it was almost two years back that she made an appearance on the small screen with Devi and now, Madhoo's back on television with Sony's Mann Mein Hai Vishwas. But why did she choose to do an episodic after such a long gap? "That's precisely why I agreed to do it. I have two kids now and I didn't want to do something that would take too much of my time," she says. Also, she says, she took this serial as the subject touched her heart. "I'm a great believer in faith and this episode showcased one of the incidents of my life where my faith was tested,"she adds. But does this mean that the audience can expect to see more of her on television? "I like to see myself on the big screen," she says with a smile but adds that an offer from television wouldn't be ignored either if it fits in her scheme of things. And speaking of big screen, the girl from Roja is all set to make a comeback to Bollywood as well. "I've a great role in a film titled Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. It will release sometime next year," she says. Now that she's married and has two kids, Madhoo knows her limitations regarding the kind of roles she would be offered. "I don't see myself playing a college girl," she laughs. But with actors like Madhuri Dixit, Kajol and Juhi Chawla still a force to reckon with, despite being mothers, Madhoo is hopeful that she would get substantial roles. "These days, women know how to keep themselves fit and in shape. Juhi, Madhuri, Kajol, they're all married with kids and they still look so beautiful. I also believe that after a certain age, there's a certain maturity that comes to an actor's performance," she says. According to Madhoo, she's not planning to five films a year but maybe one or two that have something substantial for her to do. And would she like to act opposite Ajay and Saif again? "Oh absolutely!" she laughs, "That would be like life coming full circle."
