She is the great dissolution of the universe; she existed before the universe and she will exist after it. A big gripe I have with Dhumavati's characterization is the emphasis on her being a widow. When she consumes Shiva, she consumes the universe. Thus, she acts as the Supreme Annihilation. Furthermore, Dhumavati asserts control over Shiva, thereby establishing supremacy.

Dhumavati is similar to Nirriti: both goddesses represent the inauspicious and reside where there is misery. Yet, Dhumavati is a warrior goddess; in oral mythology, she destroys Shumbh and Nishumbh, while canonical sources describe how she suffocates her enemies with thick, black smoke.

I really hope they don't just show Dhumavati as a widow, guilty of going against her husband. Like the other Mahavidyas, Dhumavati is a goddess of divine wisdom.

I'm so intrigued towards Goddess Dhumavati . She's very unique .

Isn't Goddess Jysetha The Wife Of Shani Dev? 😕

Actually there r many stories about goddess jysetha... some consider her as goddess dhumavati and some consider her as shani dev's wife...and some people consider her lord vishnu's wife also (as shown in DKDM).. I personally don't consider her as goddess dhumavati... there are much difference in them and I believe she is shani dev's wife which we known as nila/alakshmi... goddess jyestha story is quite interesting..she is know as alakshmi and is regarded as the elder sister and anthithesis of Goddess Lakshmi...Jyestha is associated with inauspicious places and sinners. She is also associated with sloth, poverty, sorrow, ugliness and the crow. She is sometimes identified with Alakshmi, another goddess of misfortune. Her worship was prescribed for women, who wished to keep her away from their homes. Most Hindu legends narrate about Jyestha's birth during the churning of the cosmic ocean. She is usually described to be born when the poison Halahala streams from the ocean, while Lakshmi - her antithesis, the goddess of good fortune - is born when the elixir of life emerges. People believe that Goddess Mahalakshmi divided herself in three form during the time churning of Oceans..

bhu lakshmi n sri lakshmi n alakshmi are twins or some say 3 forms/ansh of same person called Mahalakshmi.. To conclue.. Life (preservation needs a leader who is vishnu (na vishnu: pruthvi pathi:) swaroopa n brings "order ,but becomes Sani to all creating problems because society bydefault is mixture of numerous types of people n no leader can satisfy all..)

So a leader acquires land (bhu lakshmi) n brings wealth n riches (sri lakshmi) n later any king dynasty eventually crumbles to destruction leading to war n death (alakshmi)..

So wherever there is vishnu or life there is sani or struggle, n wherever there is wealth there is sorrow immediately..
