I know what I am asking is the off topic and not permitted to ask in this thread but I wanna know about it that's why can't resist to ask

On ganesha pooja our hostel aunt told us story about Gajasura then I read it some stories but all stories are different.. Actually I knew about that gajasura did penance n get boon by lord shiva and then to fulfill his wish his head chopped-off from his body and applied at Vinayak's body but I get to know that elephant is Airavat (vahaan of Indra Dev) doing penance for getting rid of a shrap n some said that gajasura was a demon that turn to elephant as a punishment and also knew about a demon elephant story who is killed by lord Shiva and lord shiva then known as "Gajasurasamhara". that demon elephant name is also gajasura that's why I am confused.. can somebody clear the two stories

N really sorry for this off-topic but I seriously wanna know about this

Hi,

This is not strictly about Adi Shakti or about the show.

In many of the stories I have read, there is of course the Asur who does very rigorous tapasya for a very long span of time and he is then rewarded with darshan of his/her 'aradhya' (is this the right word to use in context of the Asur's?) & a boon.

When the Asur's start getting drunk on their powers and start committing atrocities on all & sundry, take over swarg etc, then the devta's approach Brahmadev or Narayan or Mahadev or Devi

In some stories they say that whoever the Devta's approach guides them to do rigorous prayers, etc to get the grace and delivarance they seek.

So essentially, it means that the Devta's too have to do the work (tapasya) to get the grace/boon of deliverance from the asur.

Would my understanding be right?

In most of the mythos, it is always shown that the Devta's run to the Tridev and immediately a solution is presented. It is the same, in some of the versions of the stories that I have read (don't know if it is due to being condensed versions, but ...?)

As per Mahakaal Samhita, many Kalpas ago Shivji & Vishnuji did penance of MahaShakti, for thousands of years. Mahakaali appeared in her most fearful form in front of them & explained them a her powerful mantra. Both the Gods got their power through penance of her Ayutakshar mantra.
All the Divine forms performs higher penance depending on the requirement.

Thanks Meenakshi.

So this means Sur ho ya Asur, tapasya is a must,
for getting boons and for getting assistance

The question is about Gajasur. All stories I have read and heard - no story relates Gajasur head being used to replace Vinayak's destroyed head.

In almost all stories Shiva kills Gajasur and also gives him the boon to always be remembered by the world.

So, this oft repeated story (at least I have seen it in DKDM and Mahakali) of Gajasur head being used to replace Vinayak's is "creative liberty"? or does any such story appear anywhere.

@Mahakali

Thanks

Is this the only version. I just wanted to be sure. I am repeating here the bigger question I had based on the show (already asked in another thread) :

The thing is from what I understood, Gajasur has a boon that he will live with Mahadev and attain great wisdom (did I understand the dialogues correctly - sometimes I get lost). If that is the case, then when Mahadev revives Vinayak :

1. Is it the body of Vinayak and the head + soul of Gajasur
Because if Gajasur has to stay with Mahadev then it should be his soul;
but then what about Parvati's son Vinayak
2. Is it the body & soul of Vinayak and the head of Gajasur
- in this case what of Gajasur's boon

hi... there are many versions of this story... Actually vinayak is gauri putra so no ordinary head can be placed on his head... in all the stories one thing is common that the gaja whose head is put on the body of vinayak did extremely rigorous penance n ready to sacrifice himself for this... and the body and soul is of vinayak and head of gajasura... there are three famous stories :
1) Indra's vahaan airawat is got cursed and cause of that has to live as an elephant on earth then he did extremely tough penance and pleased lord shiva and asked a boon to get free from this cursed but lord shiva said it is ur karamfal and you have to pay for ur misdeed.. after listening this he became sad cause of this lord shiva said cause u pleased me that's why when the right time will come you will be free from this curse and will become respectful, pujayniya and also my beloved and get a chance to live with me... in this story the soul of airawat gets free and his head becomes respectful, pujayniya and beloved as lord ganesha according to lord shiva's boon

2) In 2nd story gajasura asked boon to become the most scholar person in the world which is impossible cause lord shiva is the one so he asked to get knowledge from lord shiva instead and also asked to live with him and become the most scholar person... he got his boon as his head is placed on vinayak's and he got knowledge from lord shiva and lord ganesha is know as buddhi ke devta...

3) and in 3rd one gajasura did penance and asked lord mahadeva to place in his udar to become immortal but lord shiva becomes bigger and bigger after replacing in his body and pierced him then he got to know his mistake and ask the boon to live with lord shiva always then lord shiva agrees to it and wears his skin as a garment... In another verson demon gajasura was shiva devotee but he misuses his powers that's why lord shiva pierced him by his trident and lord shiva then known as "Gajasurasamhara"

there are many version of lord ganesha's birth in different purana... In varah purana lord shiva alone is said to have produced ganesha and some versions are so much different from the story which we knew... If u wanna read all about this u can read here... it will help u to understand :
