My answer to the poll is Irrelevant, since he superseded the path of his legal family.. per the logic that by that time no one was a Kshatriya by blood but by brought up.. so to me option one sounds void..

Okay, fair comment.

I guess I'm one of the 3 people so far who voted for 'Relevant'. In reality, I do think caste is and even was irrelevant, even w/o trying to judge that era by today's norms.

However, I don't think that Karna was the right vehicle to express that. A better example would have been Parashurama & his mama - due to a switch b/w Jamadagni's mother & her mother, Jamadagni's mama, though a prince/kshatriya, became a rishi, while Parashurama, though a Brahman, became a warrior. Actually, Jamadagni himself would have been, but his mother begged for it to be delayed for a generation, & Bhrigu granted that wish.

Or Drona, Kripa & Ashwatthama. There was no Kshatriya blood in their veins, and yet, their biggest defining role was @ Kurukshetra, in war.

Karna, OTOH, was born to a Kshatrani - Kunti, and to Surya-dev, and since Surya-dev's caste is presumably Kshatriya (like all the devas and asuras), Karna was in fact born a Kshatriya, and lived his entire life in that manner. He's therefore not the example to put if one wants to refute the contention that one is a Kshatriya by birth.

Ya...it's specified , right after the panchal war with Drupad .

You are right about the timelines, but it's not directly mentioned - one has to do some reading b/w lines. Here goes:
  • Drona taught Arjun the Brahma weapon - the Brahmashira - after the war w/ Drupada
  • Karna approached Drona for that weapon once Arjun and Ashwatthama had received it
  • Drona turned him down
  • Karna then approached Parashurama
Oh, and one thing Diala mentioned in the previous thread or somewhere else - Karna did have his kavacha-kundalas during the Matsya war: Indra approaches him for it after Krishna's mission to Hastinapur failed. Indra then saw that war was inevitable, and therefore, either to do his own son a favor, or to please Krishna, he decided to divest Karna of those 2 birth accessories.

@ Vrish, I hope you know that next to no body visits the second page of any AT ?? N why they should they ? They don't even know that some part of the AT decoration is posted in the 2nd page too ?? Not every body is gifted with second vision like our Sahadeva here ! πŸ˜†

So, please add " CONTINUED ON THE SECOND PAGE " on the last post of the first page , so that visitors could know, or else why'd they even check the 2nd page , becoz usually all the ATs complete their decorations within the 1st page only. 😳

Thanks for the suggestion. Done!!!

Incidentally, I've added a new fanfic reference section on pg 2. Any fanfics you want included, let me know. Panchali's one about Supriya-Karna is there.

As Gargi pointed out, it goes on into pg 2. Pg 1 is full of written content, so pg 2 is where we tossed the decorations πŸ˜†

The one in red is what I say we dont know.. may be he din't ask for it as soon as Arjun and Ashwi got it.. I can also guess that his loss of Kavach and Kundal urged him to get Brahmastra? and with the Kavach on him he can't pretend to be a Brahmin unless it is an 'on & off
' type like the one in the show.. my doubt is because I guess this is what Villi Bharatham says and sounds absolutely logical and Vyas' timeline here is uncertain.. all put together is making me guess he dint have it..

So far, only 3 people have voted for the first option, including me. That's how I guessed that πŸ˜†

The alternative to the second point doesn't make sense, b'cos in the tournament, Karna duplicated everything that Arjun did, so neither had an edge over the other. Although Narada told Yudisthir that Karna perceived Arjun as being superior, one ought to take some of his and Vyasa's statements w/ more than just a grain of salt, since they were trying to comfort Yudisthir by maligning Karna. Karna & Arjun were matched as of that tournament, and later, Arjun got the Brahmashira. That gave him a major edge over Karna (although I guess Karna's kavacha would still have shielded him) so Karna wanted that as well. Which is why he approached first Drona, and then Parashurama for it.
