He was actually a spy who brought information from the kauravas to pandavas.But after abhi died he publicly changed sides,so in a way he was in the pandavas side even before the battle.
Did you know that he was older the our dear duri.Lol.Vikarna was just as righteous as yuyutsu but couldnt leave his brother.Yuyutsu was like vibhishan while vikarna was like kumbhkaran.Both were learned righteous men but one chose his brother & other chose "right".For his karma Yuyutsu was made indraprastha king by pandavs.
