I also feel that Kunti was more jealous and insecure than Madri. Madri was pretty, and was a princess (unlikeKunti, who was aristocracy but not technically royal family - Remember Shurasena as a Yadava, could not ascend the throne, nor did his cousin Kuntibhoj - there were ruling class, but not in line to any thrones ). Also Kunti may have been insecure that Madri was a virgin unlike her. This same insecurity perhaps made her willing to look after the children, rather than to take up Sati, as she felt she wasn't worthy.
Madri was probably naive, passionate, poorly restrained, but very pretty (perhaps a beuty -queen type floozy) but I doubt she was haughty and rude.
