Chapter 5

Madhu was stunned by that unexpected question. She was suddenly feeling very dizzy and her whole world started spinning out of control. It didn't take long for her vision to black out and go into oblivion.

*****

Madhu woke up to water being sprinkled on her face. A handsome face was hovering over her with concern written on his face. 'Have I died and gone to heaven? Who is this angel of a man?' she thought in her unconscious state.

It didn't take long for her to identify him and the words he spoke next confirmed her reality check. Madhu almost gasped.

"Is it normal for you to faint when a guy proposes you?" He asked quirking an eyebrow.

Suddenly her heart missed a beat. 'So it was true. He actually asked it.' She seethed with anger. She sat down from the lying position and frowned at him.

"How dare you! Are you taking me for a joke? Mr. Rishabh Kundra, I'm leaving right now!"

"Feisty eh? I like it."

Madhubala glowered at him, but a strong hand stopped her from leaving there.

"We haven't finished talking yet." He said sternly.

"There's nothing left to talk. I'm leaving this place. I don't care if I get killed and you go to jail. I'm leaving right now!" She shouted.

Rishabh's grip on her hand tightened and she saw his light eyes turning dark from anger. She swallowed.

"Let go of my hand!" She said trying to shake off her hand from him, miserably.

"Quit trying to be smart with me Madhubala. I'll let go once you stop struggling and let me explain things to you."

She stopped struggling from his grip immediately, and he let go of her hand slowly, never breaking their eye contact.

"Much better." He smirked. "And now listen to me, and listen to me carefully."

She looked down, hating herself for her vulnerability. He placed his index finger under her chin and lifted her face, meeting her dazed eyes.

"I want you to look at me when I talk to you, Madhubala." She almost gulped seeing his intense gaze; she got goose-bumps. He was looking at her so kindly; she was wondering if it's the same man. 'No, I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.' She repeated in her mind like a mantra. 'Don't let him deceive you. He's the devil in disguise.' She almost closed her eyes, trying to convince herself, puzzled with her inner turmoil.

"Madhubala, I know we have a bitter past together, but why stay in the past? It's time to move on. I have finally realised the errors of my ways and my apologies for all the havoc I created in your life. I proposed to you, because it's the best I can do to mend your.. ruined reputation. I really regret what I did.

Unlike you, I never had the proper guidance from my parents since I was a kid. I was brought up in a different environment. My parents never had time for me. So whatever I did, I didn't think twice. I'm really sorry Madhubala. Let me do the noble thing and marry you." Spoke RK in a heart-melting way. He was a superstar not for nothing, and with skill like his came the advantage of deceiving even the smartest.

Madhubala was listening to him dumbstruck, in bewilderment. In fact, she couldn't believe her ears. 'Did he just apologise?'

"Madhubala, I'm sure you hate me, but I hope you'd give this a thought at least to save your family's honour. I know I took you here for your safety, but imagine if paparazzi's here and they witness us alone in a house like this? It'll be another blow to your image. "

Madhu panicked.

"Ok now calm down. I just said what's possible since you never know with those annoying flies. I sent off all servants home before I brought you here. It's so that nothing would leak out."

Madhu let out a sigh of relief, yet she was not comfortable with this new found information.

"So I'll give you time to think over. Just give me your answer tomorrow morning. Oh and there's no one to cook dinner. I hope you don't mind being the chef tonight."

Madhu gritted her teeth. 'So now I'm his cook? This man is unbelievable.'

"See you at dinner Madhubala. Sharp eight!" He winked and left.

She glared at his leaving figure and looked around. Finally she acknowledged the fact that they were no longer on the patio, but the sitting room. 'So he carried me all the way?' She sighed. "Argh!" She was frustrated.

*****

It was already evening and she went to the kitchen to start her new job as the cook. 'Why am I even doing this?' She shook her head in disbelieve, but then again she didn't want to starve herself for him. They didn't even have a proper lunch, just snacks and fruits. She rolled her eyes. "Men!"

She finished making dinner and arranged the dining table. By eight o'clock everything was ready. She heard footsteps and looked up to see RK smiling.

She glared. "Why are you smiling?"

The small question made him smile wider. "You'd make a cute biwi."

Madhu looked horrified. He ignored her and sat down at the head of the table. The aroma of the food made his already hungry-self hungrier and to make things more exciting for him, she had made his favourite paneer sabzi. He looked up at Madhu who was still standing and said "You can sit too you know, unless of course you prefer standing." He smirked.

Madhu glared at him and took a seat at once.

"Let's see if the food tastes good as it smells." Said RK thinking 'Let's see if my hone wali biwi will pass her cooking test.' RK smirked. 'If only she can read my thoughts.'

Madhubala rolled her eyes, having no clue as to what's actually going in his mind. They were both silently eating after that.

RK was done with his dinner. "Passed."

"Huh? What do you want me to pass?" Madhu asked, not clearly understanding what he meant.

"The desert."

Madhu stared at him in disbelieve. "I didn't make any desert. I'm not your personal cook."

RK stared back, picking an apple from the fruit bowl and silently ate. 'One mark less. Too bad she had the potential to score hundred.' He shook his head and got up.

"Breakfast, sharp eight. Don't forget to make a decision tonight. Think of the family honour and the fact that you wouldn't have to run from Bhatia if you become my wife. So sweetheart, make a wise decision."

She looked at RK's serious face and swallowed. Her world is becoming upside down. She left to her room with a heavy heart. She didn't know which way to turn.

*****

Madhu was still thinking of how to make the big decision. She already called her mother and informed that she wouldn't be home for few more days. Padmini's reaction was not helpful to her already worried mind. After a long conversation, she somehow managed to convince her mother she was perfectly secure and there was nothing to worry.

She came out of the bathroom getting ready to sleep. She was still engrossed in thinking of the events of the day while braiding her hair. Little did she know there was something amiss in her room. Finally she looked up and nearly had a heart attack. There on her bed, sprawled like a lion waiting for his prey was Rishabh Kundra, and there she was standing aghast like a deer caught on headlight.

"W-what are you doing here?" She asked in a shaky voice.

RK had a smug look on his face. "What do you think I'm doing here?" he drawled huskily. He prowled out of the bed and came towards her, capturing her eyes with his intense gaze piercing her soul. She backed away from him, yet he didn't stop coming towards her. Her back hit on the wall and she realised she had no escape. She gulped as he was only inches away from her. Ultimately, he trapped her body with his, his forearms resting on the wall above her. Her heart skipped a beat unable to comprehend what was happening. His face slowly moved towards her neck, his warm breath tickling her. Her eyes closed immediately, and one of his arms circled her waist pulling her towards his rock-hard chest. He nuzzled her neck and it sent shivers down her spine. Her breathing became heavy and he was thoroughly enjoying the effect he had on her. He suddenly released his hold, leaving her cold.

"That was just a trailer of what we'd have when we marry."

Madhubala was still in shock, her body shaking from what just took place. Rishabh Kundra almost felt sorry for the innocent girl who was staring at him with her big doe-eyes, perplexed. 'She's certainly unexperienced. Not surprised.' He thought possessively. He certainly didn't want any other man touching her. The idea was enough to boil his blood.

"I came here since I couldn't wish you a good night and to remind you again that your family's honour is at stake. It's in your hands to save it. Good night and sweet dreams."

Rishabh Kundra left an utterly gobsmacked Madhubala in an absolutely confused mindset. She still had not taken her decision. The way her body reacted to him was what astonished her the most. Here she thought she hated him, yet how did he have that power over her? Shouldn't she have coiled in disgust to his touch? She was sure about to have a sleepless night.
