Aarti Singh has more to her credit than being Govinda's niece. This lovely lady is part a popular soap on TV and more interestingly for us, hails from neighbouring Lucknow!
Acting is in Aarti's genes and it was only natural for her to take it up as her profession. "My inspiration is my mama (Govinda) and my brother, who is also an established actor in the Bhojpuri industry," gushes this 20-something actor. "I used to spend my vacations in Mumbai and would attend my mama's film shoots. That's how my interest in acting developed. And then, my mother always wanted to see me on TV, so after completing my school, I relocated to Mumbai and joined an acting school," she relates.
Aarti accepts that she's had it easy till now and is grateful for it as well, "Thank God, I hardly had to struggle to make a place for myself in the industry," she says and goes on tell about her recent assignments, "I have just completed a Telugu movie which is yet to be released and am now acting in a serial." That's not all. Aarti is getting offers from various other banners as well. However, she is happy maintaining status quo.
So is Bollywood the next stop? "I am deliberately keeping away from Bollywood. Once there, you just cannot avoid skin show and I'm not too comfortable with that," she replies.
Professionally, the biggest achievement for Aarti would be to act along with mama Govinda. But work's not all that's on her mind; her private life is rocking as well! "Yes, I am seeing someone," she says with an honesty that's rare among actors. "Both of us are giving time to this relationship and let's see what happens," she adds, ruing the fact that the two of them are not able to meet as often as they would want to, living in different cities as they do. But Aarti is certain she would like to settle down in the next four or five years to "enjoy the essence of being a homemaker."
Despite tasting success in Mumbai, Aarti still misses her days back in Lucknow. "Lucknow is where my heart is. I still miss going to cafes with friends or enjoying basket chaat in Hazratganj, strolling around the city... just about everything," she reminisces. Being a Lakhnawi at heart, naturally she is impressed with the way the city is shaping up. "Kitna badal gaya hai sab yahan! Be it the mindset, the lifestyle or the infrastructure, everything has changed for good," she says before signing off.
