LTL Written Update
Episode ~175

The Ganpati worship continues , Dutta stands next to Naku and steals glances at her.. which she returns readily. Bhajans are chanted about Bappa by all the family. Outside a pair of hands twists off the chunky gold rings from both fingers and other worn items of gold jewellery. The figure dressed in black puts aside the ornaments , gold watch, glares on the seat of the white car he sits in. Inside before Bappa's idol the singing continues fervently.
Outside, the door of the white car opens and a man steps out, then opens the back door of the car . A palm with drumming fingers, clutches the car door, asout steps a pair of chappal clad feet dressed in a black clothes... checks the crowd gathered outside Dutta's house.
Inside Dutta gives Naku a hooded sided look. Outside the figure weaves into the crowd that struggles as it waits for the gates of PN to be opened for entry.
Dutta continues his sided gaze at Naku , she prays, but recalls her father's yell,"so both of you mother and daughter are cheating Bhau! now I'll go and tell the truth!you wait and watch! Dutta watches her intently , and she moves her eyes his way and muses in fear... but smiles at him as Bappa watches both of them. Aye Sahib stands next to Dutta and gives him a worried look. Ganpat continues to give Babi threatening body language, warning her to behave..and she gives signs of compliancy. Naku stands helpless in worship . Babi looks at her daughter, churning Naku's words,"Aye will not show Saab my real face till you don't will it so". Baji looks with worry at Naku ahead and then Babi on his side , plagued by the lie they withhold from Bhau. Bappa looks and knows the truth.. and the devotional worship ends.
AS , turns and asks Leela about Roops, who informs her she's in her room. AS nods and then turns to Dutta on her side and whispers, Dutta it's time now to give charity to the needy waiting outside, so let's go. Dutta looks to Naku on his side, and Baji bids Kale to open the gate for the less fortunate.. to enter the premises. AS instructs , all to go out , and she will follow later.
Roop's room
Roops paces alone in her room. Aye Sahib turns up and enquires why she was excluding herself from every one? was she still annoyed with her? Roops brushes the query aside, and denies it.. but says my heart is not in the festivities, nothing feels right. Her mother takes her to the foot of the bed and sits her down caringly, and says, you are still so angry with your mother? how can she as her mother be happy if her child is sad? and think of Dutta , he too can never be happy to see his sisters gloomy, so hurry up and come down and join all the family; it's a happy occasion, if you remain with the rest of the family, you'll forget your depression... my heart knows that Kala will surely return one day...so come along now. With this reassurance Roops accompanies her mother.
Courtyard Patil Nivas
Heavily guarded and decorated front courtyard is ready to receive the crowds, coming in to receive charitable gifts from Dutta Bhau. The gates are opened by the BG's for the crowd that gushes in. The BG , organise the crowd in an orderly file.
Naku and Dutta come out together, and the crowd cheer Dutta Bhau! Dutta Bhau! when Dutta is seen. Behind Dutta follows, Baji, Ganpat, Leela, Babi, suds.. Dutta raises his arm up in greetings to the chanting crowd...as he and Naku move and stand behind the long
table with the gifts to be distributed among the crowd.
Amid the cheering crowd stands the figure in the black clothes too. From behind the shoulder of the person before him a pair of big bold eyes stare across at Naku and Dutta.
Dutta stands with Naku in the broad day light and looks at the man at the top of the queue and beckons him to come forward to receive the gift. Dutta as asks the old man ,if things are well with him? he tells Dutta , the crops didn't yield much ,so daughter's marriage is delayed, due to shortage of money. Dutta turns to Baji and then gives the man a bundle of paper money..with a word here take this kaka, and get your daughter married off as customary, and make sure you eat before you leave. The man says gratefully, Bhau you've never turned away any one empty handed from your house.. may Bappa bless you both with lifelong happiness.
So the queue moves on. Ganpat greedily points out and justifies his dark deeds , see Babi, how he's distributing his money to total strangers! so don't I have more right to Bhau's wealth , seeing that I am his SIL? if I stole a few bucks what's the big deal ? they hush each other up ,and Ganpat slyly slips away.
Another woman with a young boy stands before Dutta. he asks her how she was? she complained about her husband, that he beats her mercilessly; he threatens he'll take away her son, Saab that drunkard, sends his son for child labour, it'll ruin his future, you are the only support for us destitute. Dutta frowns at her account , and turns to Baji , call her husband over for a stiff our kind of a chat.. the woman is satisfied and blesses both Dutta and Naku...and she moves away. The line moves on as Dutta and Naku carry on with the charitable act. The man with the big eyes looks above the shoulder of the person before him.
Aye Sahib and Roops come out now. AS smiles at the crowd...they greet her. The pair of eyes watches Aye Sahib as she stands with folded hands by the moving line. Feet move on in the queue. AS watches in great delight, the backs of Dutta distributing the garments pack and Naku handing out the boxed sweetmeats to the public.
They pause and Naku turns her head to the side. The pair of eyes watches..and his legs carry him forward...gradually he moves on, staring at AS.. at his smiling son. AS opens her eyes after saying a prayer of gratification to her deity. She looks around, at the grounds, senses something uncanny. Dutta talks to the next person in the line, how are you kaka? did your son manage to find himself a job? the man says, no, as good references are required to get a job. Dutta assures him ,don't worry he'll get a job soon. AS, looks down the line and notices the stranger in black's feet. He peeps and hides behind the person before him.
Aye Sahib is shocked as she sees and recognises the eyes and part of his face... she starts hyperventilating, as his feet move forward, eerily.. she can make out who he is? as his profile forms an eclipse against the sun's light. She panics and screams Dutta!..this may well be to keep him from preventing the man from getting to him! Dutta turns to look at his mother, looks at her, like all around and runs to her side!as he puts his arm around her shoulders and takes her hand protectively. Baji too runs to her side. She looks in terrible shock. Dutta asks her what's the matter? all worry about her state. Naku turns her head to look at AS.. she moves her hand off the sweet meat box.. it's grabbed by a hand..she turns to face a stranger.. who grabs her hand just above the wrist.. a guttural voice says, Naku my child.. and she looks up into his big eyes ..puzzled, you are a pious girl, who has brought a ray of sunshine in Dutta's life...may god bless you always.. and he places his palm on her head. Naku notices his big eyes. Dutta asks his mother what is it Aye Sahib.? Baji looks around. She stutters ummm I saw a stranger! he went over there!she points. Dutta runs his eyes across the areas of the courtyard but cannot see any one. Aye Sahib , cries I am really very anxious.ooh she cries. he calms her down ,just relax..and keeps looking.. himself and bids Baji to take his mother indoors...and himself calls his guards and goes to check the direction Aye Sahib pointed out. Baji orders, Kale keep a close watch on every one. Aye Saab sees the man standing before Naku, his palm on her head. She glares at the stranger. Baji notices , where Aye Sahib stares..he says to her , wait a second. and he himself walk towards the man and Naku and says ,ok kaka that's enough now! Naku come with me. AS watches and tells Roops and Leela to leave; and herself slips away to a secluded spot. Baji takes Naku away. She asks him , Baji who is that stranger? seems like a nice man but Baji doesn't say who he is, a except a vague answer. Baji says must have come from the village, but you better get inside before Bhau finds out. Naku makes her way up the porch, suddenly she hears Aye Sahib's voice... if you dare to take another step forward! then before every one I'll shoot you down; he replies , I'll leave for now but I be back soon, I have right over Dutta and this right I will not forfeit. He threatens and then slowly walks down the drive to the main gate. Aye Sahib watches him leave. Aye Sahib turns to see if anyone had noticed.. she is unaware that Naku has seen and possibly heard the conversation. Aye Sahib mops her brow with her pallu and starts coming toward's the house... she is blocked by Naku near the entrance. Naku asks, who was that man Aye Sahib? he blessed me, I felt a nearness in his touch. Aye Sahib fears and says, I was struck by his frightening eyes , Naku , you are very innocent you can't differentiate between friend or foe, you'd best come inside the house Naku.. says Aye Sahib.
Inside the house
Dutta and Baji with their battalion of BG s return to the inside of the house. Both walk towardS Aye Sahib as she waits for an explanation. Dutta calmly explains, all the veranda and courtyard have been checked, there is no one there... you must be imagining things, he brushes it off lightly. An otherwise relieved Aye Sahib, goes along with him and confirms, yes maybe, she looks backwards at Naku who muses, why does it seem that Aye Sahib is concealing something ..ironic thought from Naku herself..if it was a stranger as she claims, then why was she speaking to him? Dutta underplays the incident and says with a smile, looks like you are still concerned about our happiness, don't worry yourself. he attempts to calm his mother who turns her worried face.. glances at Naku behind her, turns to face Dutta and goes hummm, I am a mother, I am likely to suspect every stranger. Dutta replies firmly, be it one of our own or a stranger , no one can cast an evil eye on our house, why? because we grew up under the protection of your blessings, we cannot be harmed ..aye Sahib recalls Damoder's voice , for the moment I am leaving, but I'll return soon.. I have right over Dutta and this right I will not forfeit... she still looks shook up and Dutta , asks his sister, Leela take Aye Sahib to her room... all turn to disperse but Dutta stops Roops, little sis', come here.. she goes and stands before him but refuses to meet his gaze. He firmly puts his palms on her shoulders and gives a clarification to her yet again, I know why you are down cast, he strokes the side of her head and says, but feels good to see you here amongst every one .. you don't fret Tai will return soon, he says with a tender smile... go now! he says finally and Baji and Naku smile at the love Dutta showers on his sisters... but Dutta folds his arms across his chest and with a stern face and thinks.. episode ends Hamlet53~ 28.4.14
Damoder too lines up hoping to get the gift of his only son back to him.The question lies, is AS ready to gift him what rightfully belongs to him. Is Dutta willing to consider himself gifted to a total stranger who wants much , more then just charity.. he wants Dutta's birth right! but it looks like this will be a custody battle between Damoder and Aye Sahib. In the meanwhile the child in the midst of the battle is very likely to get hurt.. who will be the physician for his wounds?
The beauty of this episode is how it shows the similarities between father and son.. the taste in wearing gold jewellery, chain bracelet watch.. drumming of fingers.. the like for like profession.. black clothed body guards..
The feel is more like a bloody reunion rather then blood ties recognition..
aye sahib 's mothering style as bart pointed out.. shows up again in Roop's reaction over kala's exit.. it appears kala has mothered the two younger sisters.. no wonder they appear lost without her.. kala did predict that..
Dutta plays it low profile in this episode..so as not to alarm his mother..
Naku gets her father in laws blessings..
AS lies through her teeth.. "stranger"..
