| | | | Ketki Dave with daughter Riddhi | Ketki Dave's daughter, Riddhi, is the latest addition to the acting circuit. She makes her debut along with her mother in Sanjay Goradia's yet untitled production.
Both essay mother and daughter in the Gujarati play, a socio-comedy, slated to open next month.
Though Ketki is best remembered as Dakshaben and her 'ara ra ra' mannerisms in Kyunki Saas Bi Kabhi Bahu Thi, she and her husband, Rasik Dave, are regulars on the floorboards. Rasik has his own theatre troupe, Mudra Arts.
Own calling
"It's not that we were behind her decision to act. We just let her be and make her own choice. We were only keen that Riddhi complete her graduation. In fact, earlier she did not express a desire to act at all.
Three years ago, she was with us on a tour of the US with Saiyar Tu Aaave To Jahnu where she played a part. It was only after this experience that she gradually decided to act."
Their venture is directed by Vipul Mehta who has recently staged plays like Baa Ae Maari Boundary, Lali Lila, Best of Luck and Chhagan Magan Chhapre Lagan. It is written by Aslam Parvez and Nilesh Rupapara.
"Vipul was the writer of Kyunki, so I have known him from those days. After Kyunki I had done a play with him Manjula Marfatia BA LLB," says Ketki.
She's glad that her daughter had it easy.
"I had to struggle during my initial days. I started with theatre, but I was always a replacement actress, it was after a long time with Siddharth Randeria's Sanket and Shailesh Dave's Olkhan, that I got recognition."
Riddhi did her schooling at Maneckji Cooper, Juhu, and her HSC from Mithibai College.
She has just appeared for her final year BMM exams from N M College. "She is a good listener so both Rasik and me provide her with tips."
Words of advice
Says Riddhi, "My father is most excited about my acting. I have grown up watching my parents act. So I listen to whatever they say.
My grandmother (Sarita Joshi) has also given me several tips on body language, voice control and how to be yourself on stage." Riddhi is now focused on acting and is also looking at films and modelling.
Ketki also has a son Abhishek who is studying in class nine at Maneckji Cooper.
She is currently shooting for a Bhojpuri film, Londonwalli Se Nigaahe Lagavi. She has also done a Hindi film Hello Hum Lalan Bol Rahein Hain, written and directed by Dilip Shukla, with Rajpal Yadav. |
