Our source from the industry informed us that Star and Balaji had a mutual resolution to conclude Kyunki from March 31 2009. "I'm not letting go easily. We're definitely going to appeal against Star's action. And then we shall go for arbitration. I am worried about the 300 people who have been working on Kyunki for eight years," said Ekta Kapoor, Creative director, Balaji telefilms."The move is a multinational's effort to downsize Ekta Kapoor's hold over the television industry. Balaji has an inkling that Star may produce their own version of the Great Indian Soap," said our source. "Kyunki… is not just India's biggest show. It is a phenomenon that cuts across all walks of Indian life throughout the world. It is a cultural icon, not just a show," added Ekta.
While Ekta refuses to reveal anymore, sources close to her state that she already has plans for a show on a rival channel. "Ekta's focus is on creating a show which would go beyond Kyunki... Rivals have always been present. Sometimes the competition came from the outside like -Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and at other times from within. At one time Balaji's Kkasam Se was so popular it threatened to usurp Kyunki... Balaji is immune to competition," the source added.
