Bulbul looked like a heckled tigress. The agency was being uncooperative to the hint of suspicion. Finally as she splashed water on her unslept face she decided to use her last resort. As bulbul walked out of d agency late in d evening a smile played on her lips. She had successfully obtained soft copies of d records of all d deceased. Wondering what vihaan had been doing all dis while she hoped dat dey both b able to put behind last night and move on. But life had different plans, very difficult plans.
Shadows had to be a woman's worst enemy. They spoke of unknown dangers and dug out your darkest horrors from nowhere. Bulbul's sixth sense was on tenterhooks. The eerie sensation of being followed made her hairs stand to attention. Shuffling footsteps soon reached her ears and bulbul quickened her pace. Her heartbeats were running a mile per second. A sudden tug on her upper arms and her captor's palms cupped her mouth gagging her. The darkness seemed more complete as d fear of d unknown seeped into her body. Even before she gathered her nerves to fight back, quick gasps of breath warmed her face and her heart too. She released herself and let her eyes scan his scarred face. "What on earth?" "Sshhh...you gonna get us killed stupid girl" said vihaan as he peered into d distant shadows. But was almost immediately distracted as he felt a hand grasp his throat and bulbul snarled, "Don't ever call me stupid." Vihaan's eyes widened in amusement. Here they were fighting for their life and she was being so adorable dat he just wanted to stay back in this moment. He slid his fingers on her grasp and whispered, "What would you be liked to called as sweetheart?" Vihaan's jest gashed a deep wound in her heart and minuscule worldly affairs of being lead to a waiting taxi rushed past unnoticed.
"They want us dead. Dead?? The word shook bulbul back to reality and her eyes widened in horror. Instinctively vihaan grasped her shoulders with a reassuring squeeze. But fear still reigned on her face. vihaan slightly combed her stray strands of hair back behind her ears. "You are with me." Somehow he felt dat dis sentence wud suffice. But bulbul hardly even heard it. Her trembling fingers traced d deep gashes on vihaan's face which looked like escapes from a fatal butcher knife. Her fear stricken white face was streaked with tears and precisely at that moment several things happened all at once. Vihaan realized why his heart had been broken...why he had landed up with bulbul at work...why his protective streak was so instinctive for her...why dey confided with such ease...why last night never felt wrong...why he felt dat bulbul's care for him rather dan her own life seemed rightfully owned by him. He knew what this was...he knew what Bulbul felt...doesn't exist.
Superb, but very shortπ
And suddenly everything shattered. The sharp sound of bullets pierced d still air and windshield of d car crumbled into pieces. vihaan just managed to duck in time dragging bulbul along with him. Bulbul shrieked as d driver of d car fell dead in front of her. in d distance vihaan heard d culprit vehicle screech to a halt and he immediately clang to bulbul and rolled out of d car. dey toppled down few feet before vihaan hauled d still terrified bulbul and ran straight into the woods. Bulbul had long lost d sense of time...& distance...& tiredness. Her feet didn't feel alive but yet she dragged herself never letting vihaan's hand slip by. They finally stopped and vihaan sank down on d green undercover. Bulbul caught her breath and looked around. the distant sounds of d rumbling of passing vehicles reached her...but it only made her aware dat their hunters might be still looming close. She shrank towards vihaan but immediately moved away shocked. vihaan was cold and white. Horrified she saw d darkened patch of vihaan's shirt. BLOOD. Panic flooded her senses and she felt as if falling into a deep darkened endless pit...d pit her life wud b without vihaan.
Bulbul had changed d draping on vihaan's wound thrice in three hours. her eyes lit up for every few seconds dat vihaan swam out of his semi conscious state and for d rest hours her body sat tensed checking his heart beat every few seconds. finally after d fifth draping his blood flow eased and she felt vihaan slip into a deep sleep. fear still refused to leave her and very carefully she laid her head on his heaving chest. His beating heart pumping life blood in her...his warm breath eased her nerves and as d stars winked fate smiled.
Sunshine trickled through the shades of d trees and vihaan crinkled his eyes. His hand felt dead and his chest heavy even in dis drowsy state. With a bit more effort vihaan forced his eyes open and last night's scenes rushed past him. His hand instinctively grabbed bulbul closer and den realizing dere closeness he smiled wondering when he should propose her. A smile had just reached his lips when he shook himself out of romanticism and decided to make way to get dem out safely.
Anika's car screeched to a halt a split second after she had crossed vihaan. Reversing back she slid her window down and her eyes fell on his wounded arm. "Vihaan?" "I need your help" Anika was astonished as vihaan carried his girlfriend even with d wound of his. As he carefully laid her head on his lap and brushed aside her hair, anika's past flashed past her eyes. vihaan's devotion was still d same. What was it that had made her not see it? Anika rushed d worried vihaan along with d unconscious bulbul shivering with high fever. The early morning winding road reminding her of all d wrong turns of her life.
Bulbul slept peacefully. The drugs were doing their work and finally vihaan left a deep breath. "You really care for her." "I love her" "More than me?" The question was so unconscious that anika was shocked to hear it from her mouth. She had successfully convinced herself that a separation from vihaan was in her best interests. But suddenly throwing him away looked like a bad destiny to her. "I mean do you know her well enough? " Anika tried in vain to hide d tone of jealousy. Vihaan took few extra seconds and scanned his ex-girlfriend...& ex-best friend. "How are you doing Anika? Did you miss your buddy?" Anika's eyes swam and she hugged Vihaan.
Vihaan Anika had long moved out of her room on Vihaan's signal. They wanted to keep it private. Obviously thought Bulbul. Lovers need privacy. With that scorching image of anika vihaan hugging bulbul pressed her eyes shut only to make the image run like hot lava in her veins. "Why did she had to come back??" immediately Bulbul felt like a poisonous snake. How could she wish ill of Vihaan? She deeply cared for him. She might not have heard their low voices but she could see the care in his eyes and longing in her eyes. They were meant to be together and she was meant to move out.
The hot coffee boiled the shame in Anika. She sharply realized how much her words and actions had affected Vihaan...his life...him as a lover. He was now more cynical...less of a dreamer and more of a realistic. She smiled as she vaguely heard Vihaan narrating his & the girl with her destiny's love story. He had a hint of amusement...fondness...& pride for whom he loved. Something their young passionate love missed. Maybe they were not meant to be together.
