I want to do qualitative work - Kritika kamra

Kritika Kamra, who is back on the small screen to woo her fans, talks about her new show Reporters, character and more with us...

Saturday, April 11, 2015 | 4:35:30 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)

Adorable Kritika Kamra, is back with Reporters where she will be seen essaying the character of a rising reporter Ananya Kashyap. After doing couple shows like Kitani Mohabbat Hai, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, the actress is all ecstatic to do a show of a complete new genre.

Lets see what she has to say about Reporters...

You seem to be quite choosy about shows you pick, why so?

I don't want to do quantitative but qualitative work in the industry. A break is required to reinvent myself, I don't want to be on television every single day and bore my audience.

How is it going with Rajeev Khandelwal?

He is a brilliant actor. I have watched his work. He is a perfectionist and its great to work with such an actor because even your performance is valued with him.

How is Goldie (Goldie Behl) as a director ?

Goldie, is a news buff and that is also the reason, why he decided to direct the show himself. He is very clear about what he wants and so he is vocal about it. You have to really nail it with him because he wants everything to be perfect.

Were you nervous before doing this show?

I have never been nervous about a show but this time I was because I am essaying the character of a reporter. They are very opinionated, they have a critical thought so I was well aware that journalists all over will criticize if they watch something unusual about their field. The show is going to be about their life, their relationships, the difficulties they face in the fierce world of media. I watch a lot of news, I do have my favorites but I am trying to create by own identity by not having any reference point. I want the audience to accept Ananya Kahsyap as a reporter.

What was your take on the kissing scene?

It is the first time I have kissed on television, when the story was narrated to me, my first question was can we show this because of the problems related to censorship. A kiss is very common in real life and cinema but I don't know why it is over rated on television. The show is supposed to be edging, bold and hard hitting and that's how we say it.

Have you ever thought of being a journalist before acting?

My father wanted me to be a doctor so, I played a doctor in the previous show Kuch Toh Log Kahenge. My mother wanted me to be a journalist and here I am. So by choosing the field of acting I am trying to fulfill their dreams.

What all have you learned about Journalism?

I have recently been to a news studio and got a clear idea about technical things. For the first time, I understood the meaning of a beat, I learned about news formation and more. We always question the sensationalism factor in the news but I got an answer to this. When I started doing Reporters, that it is a very cut-throat competition in the industry where you have to be better than the rest. So in this competitive world at times, news tends to become a story.

How has your relation been with the media so far?

I cannot deny to the fact that media is someone who can make you or break you. I think media is a channel which conveys our messages to the audiences. Today whatever people know about Kritrika is due to media. So far, the media has been very kind to me, I have developed particular bonding with them.

Kritika Kamra: I'm not a damsel in distress, but a strong, opinionated woman

Apr 11, 2015, 12.00AM IST TNN[ Roshni Olivera ]

Kritika Kamra may be just a few years old in television, but the actress has managed to play diverse characters so far. As she gears up for her next role, that of a journalist in the upcoming show Reporters (starting on April 13 and to be aired every Monday to Thursday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television), she talks about how she transformed into Ananya Kashyap. Excerpts:

As a teenager, did you secretly dream of becoming a hotshot television journalist someday?
It was certainly one of the things that appealed to me, which is why later, when I cleared the entrance test, I didn't go in for Fashion Designing, but chose Fashion Communication, which in a way, was like Mass Communication. So yes, the profession did fascinate me, especially war journalism.

What was your first reaction when you were offered this role, given that most roles offered to women on Indian television are rather stereotypical?
The sceptical me, of course, didn't jump in excitement, initially. The focus in this show too was on a senior-junior kind of equation, so I was hoping that this show would be different from what I'd done earlier. Once I got a proper narration, I was really happy. This channel is a comfort zone for me and I like the fact that they are still trying to make different content. Later, I got to know that the producer is Shrishti Arya and since I had met her in the past, I knew she was very cool. Then I heard that there was Rajeev Khandelwal in the show and I thought to myself, 'That's brilliant.' We all know how choosy Rajeev is and I thought if has taken this up as his comeback show, it ought to be very meaty. Then I got to know Goldie Behl is directing it... it just kept getting better! When I heard the story, I was relieved to know that the heroine is not a damsel in distress. She is a strong woman, who is opinionated and enthusiastic about putting her views across. This is a refreshing change from other women characters, who need men to solve their problems, who are always running around crying and are forever in distress.

This show is also a love story, where you have a crush on your senior. So, how did Rajeev and you break the ice?
It happened on its own. Actually, the first scene we shot for was the promo, where he kisses me and I slap him. There could be nothing better than that for an ice-breaker!

Was there any homework that you had to do to transform into your character Ananya Kashyap?
I am well-versed with news. I like watching news channels and that helped. We also went to a news studio and saw how people worked there. Today, when I watch a news channel, especially some hardcore news story, I end up thinking how I would have handled it. I have also learnt a lot of new terms that are used in this field.

Has the term 'sensational' got redefined in your mind?
I understand it a little better now (smiles). While I still strongly believe that khabrein laani chahiye, banani nahi chahiye, I understand that news needs to be catchy as it is a competitive business.

Playing a trainee journalist on Reporters, an upcoming show based on scribes, was definitely not an easy task for Kritika Kamra. From spending time in a newsroom to understanding how a media professional works, she had to put extra efforts to get the nuances right.

The show, produced by Rose Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd, will see Kritika as a political journalist Ananya.

We caught up with the pretty girl at the launch of the show where she spoke at length about her character, show and more...read on:

"I didn't want to bore my audiences by being on the TV screen continuously. This is why I always prefer taking breaks. When this show was offered to me, I was really impressed with the content. I am also a fan of series and seasons, so I readily agreed to do this show," said Kritika.

When we quizzed her about the kissing' promo that has grabbed eyeballs, the actress said, "I think kissing is overrated on and off screen. I think the purpose of the promo was to bring the essence of the show, which it did wonderfully. I was amazed by the response that we got for it. Never did I question the creatives about it as I was convinced that it was important for the show. But yes, I was not really sure if we would be even allowed to air it (laughs)."

Talking about her old connection with journalism, Kritika shared, "It is interesting that my mom wanted me to become a journalist and here I am, playing one on the small screen. My dad dreamt of seeing me as a doctor, and I played one in Kuch Toh Log Kahenge. So thankfully, I am getting to live my parents' dream!"

She is the perfect combination of beauty with brains as she shared, "Personally, I enjoy being updated with news. Being active on Twitter also helps me to get to know about the current affairs. Actually, this team is of like-minded people who enjoy news and information. Thus, we have a great time sharing knowledge while working."

And finally, talking about her relationship with media, Kritika quipped, "I think media makes or breaks a celebrity. I have had a very good relationship with journalists and I have found some good friends in them. And today, that is making me nervous as journalists tend to become too critical. I hope they are lenient with me (smiles). Reporters will focus not only the professional aspect, but also bring the human dynamics of the characters. I really hope that all of you like it."

Reporters will launch on April 13 (Monday) on Sony Entertainment Television.

TV exploring new themes...

Its time to evaluation the content seen on television these days...

Saturday, April 11, 2015 | 5:14:39 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)

Indian Television seems to be in a good space currently as we are seeing new themes being explored by producers these days. Gone are those days when television could only think about coming up with a Saas Bahu Saga or a serious drama, or a usual romantic story. As the time passes by our television is also exploring new genres and bringing something unique in front of the viewers..

But what makes us think is why these genres are trending these days? Is it because there has been too much of rona-dhona shown on TV or does the audience want to see something positive and unique which inspires them. The answer is perhaps the audience wants to get over with it as the newly launched show Reporters, which is based on a very conventional topic, presenting something for them.

Sony TV's Reporters, starring Rajeev Khandelwal and Kritika Kamra strikes the viewers perfectly as the story itself is about Journalists. It will project, how journalists work round the clock, what deadlines do they have to match and how is their working style.

Review of the Reporters:

http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/reporters-tv-review-rajeev-khandelwal-and-kritika-kamra-are-authentic-as-journalists/

Sony TV's new show is definitely a welcome change from saas-bahu sagas

The first episode of Rajeev Khandelwal and Kritika Kamra's Reporters went on air today and we are mighty impressed with the story, characterisation, filming and the concept.

Story

Reporters is touted as a love story set in a newsroom. The show starts with Kabir (Rajeev Khandelwal) talking to a class of journalism students, explaining to them what reporting is and what the hunger for news means. Kabir is one of the top journalists in the city who is known for his networking, his promptness for great news and the rules he bends to get it. Ananya Kashyap (Kritika Kamra) is a junior reporter, who like any other journalist is earnest and one day hopes to create a difference with the work she does. She is a fan of Kabir and his work; and aspires to do great work like him one day. The field of journalism is a cut throat industry where there is no room for errors, mediocrity and emotions; exactly what Kabir preaches and does.

The Good

Every actor has been cast with great precision and one can expect only great performances from each one of them. Rajeev showcases the hold over his position as one of the top journalists in the country with ease. In the classroom his stance and body language exudes the power to keep you engaged and at work he has the attitude to get the right news without being beat by competition. Kritika gives you a glimpse into the life of a newbie reporter. She shows off a desire to learn from the best beautifully. While she still comes across as a little chirpy like her character in Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, she showcases the hunger to prove herself as a reporter correctly. The sets of the show don't look over the top, unlike most shows. The makers have kept the show as real as possible - from the sets, to the life of a journalist to the politics outside the newsroom. Goldie Behl has given the show a very international feel. There is this once dialogue that Kabir says at the end of the first episode which sets the pace of Reporters - Sachai, achai aur kamyabi kabhi saath nehi chal sakte (Truth, goodness and success can never go hand in hand).

The Bad

Frankly, there is very little once can criticise about. The scene where Ananya climbs on top of the desk to make a point seems a little too over the top and something very unlike what a reporter would do. The background music in the show could have been much better and catchy. And just half an hour for a show like this seems a little too less.

Verdict

Reporters gives a very international feel, has great performances and a brilliant storyline for now. It's an ideal soap to invest in emotionally for viewers who are looking for good quality shows in India.

Sony TV's Reporters IMPRESSES

14 Apr 2015 05:28 PM | TellychakkarTeam

What is news? Who makes it? How is it made?

Sony Entertainment Television's latest presentation Reporters (Rose Audio Visuals) has all the answer. The first episode that was telecast yesterday night at primetime proved to be an edgy watch. The makers wasted no time by beating around the bush and introduced their trump card right away - Rajeev Khandelwal.

The man who was a television heartthrob once upon a time, showed yet again why there are not many in the industry who can match his class on the small screen. At the very outset, it is established that Rajeev (Kabir Sharma) is one of the most sought after journalists in town. The opening shot has him deliver a guest lecture at a prestigious journalism school explaining the true essence of news to rookie students. "Khabar ek nasha hai,"(News is a drug) proclaims Rajeev as the stunned class looks on.

The action then moves to the field where the pretty Kritika Kamra and her cameraman arrive at a hospital to capture the plight of a pregnant woman who had difficulty in reaching the hospital owing to American President's visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Fortunately, the baby is delivered well in time to avert any mishap and Kritika reports live about the incident. The reportage earns her rave review from her editor-in-chief but earns the flak of her news organization's boss who flays the Editor for running a news story where the baby and mother were both alive and kicking. The Editor is shown the door and feelers are sent out to Rajeev to join the company. The episode ends with Kritika and her cameraman getting busted up while shooting a sting operation involving the discreet marriage of an old politician with a young girl. And the hand behind the bust up was none other than of Rajeev.

The first episode of Reporters works perfectly like a teasing mini skirt worn by a leggy lass. It teases you, reveals a bit leaving you wanting more. That journalism is not the holier than thou land and Rajeev not the holy cow is established. This is a land where Darwin's survival of the fittest resonates at the highest octave.

Rajeev Khandelwal proves to be a complete showstealer. He is the perfect journalist. Suave, street smart and a glib talker. He has a nose for news and perfectly portrays the man who is ruthless when it comes down his knocking the sting out his competition.

Kritika Kamra plays the enthusiastic new reporter to the T. Her mannerisms are something we at Tellychakkar.com can perfectly identify with.

Sony deserves a good applause for spinning out the true behind-the-scenes tale of the goings on inside a newsroom. With a start like yesterday, we are sure more skeletons will tumble out of the closet and we won't be surprised if we see you questioning the well-known anchors and news items of our country after watching Reporters. Let truth prevail.

Ananya flaunts her stylish jackets

Posted: 2015-04-24 18:46:45

Kritika Kamra who plays Ananya Kashyap, a flamboyant reporter in the television series, 'Reporters' has an appreciative fashion sense. She is recently seen in variety of jackets for the promotion of the series.

The actress was wearing a black full sleeves jacket over a red top with a border of intricate pattern on the edge of the opening and strings at its end.

A light woolen jacket of grey tone and half sleeved against yellow top is making the actress look simply pretty. The whole jacket is designed with dots of gap crafting a triangle borders all over.

Along with woolen jackets, she has also adopted a light nylon jacket of sky colored with small yellow prints on it and a white top with robes at the edge. Kritika encapsulate her favoritism with light woolen jacket which runs longer than waist having free flow threads of woolen robes on its end. The jacket is designer with dots of gaps and knitted more intricately with triangular patterns.
