Hi everyone, Nikhad here! Long time later, I am here on the forum and wanted to give you guys a treat on this Valentines day. As Meet never fails to make me smile, I hope with this little effort of mine, I will be able to make you all smile too. Also, I kinda have a big announcement. If you all remember, I have my own Preet in my real life for like many years and I am thrilled to share, we are getting married on this coming December. Yeah you heard it right, December. Well, not exactly on 2nd December but on 24th to be exact. But what less, its still the same month as the Meet's anniversary right? Please do keep me and my Preet in your prayers. I can only tell, he has grown up to be more Preet like with every passing year haha.
We Have Come a Long Way
'Preet, when will you tell her? Come on, its valentines day!', Prem looked at his younger brother frustrated.
'PB, I am trying to. Trust me its not easy! We are already married, have been best friend since last 5/6 months, now how I do I tell her ke tum meri biwi ho Meher, pati/patni baan jaaye? ( That you are my wife Meher, lets be husband and wife?)' , snorted Preet taking another bite of the apple.
'I don't know any of this Preet. You are telling her today. Today at least you have an occasion to share, so things are supposed to be easier. Besides, she loves you!' , Prem tried to reason.
'I don't know. Smiling to Heer Bhabi on my name does not make it clear that she loves me. And even if she does, that makes me more nervous', Preet said taking a pause before speaking up again. 'And why are you still with me? Go and fetch Heer Bhabi, your utterly romantic Shimla trip is waiting. Your luggage is already in car', Preet teased his brother.
'Accha accha jata hoon (Okay okay I am going), but you better confess before we come back', Prem replied going out of his bedroom.
In the Kitchen
'Meher, I don't get this, why none of you are telling anything to each other? Just look at you being tomato red even hearing his name on Valentines day!', Heer was trying to reason with her younger sister for at least 20 minutes.
'Dono hi ek hain (Both are the same), just coming from my bedroom where Preet is chickened out', Prem joined the sisters and Meher just looked down immediately, pretending she was busy cutting vegetables.
'Chaalon Prem, in dono ka kuch nehi ho sakta (Lets go Prem, these two are impossible). I have told Meher, she must confess before we get back from Shimla', replied Heer holding Meher's shoulder.
'I have told the same to Preet', Prem said before two of them came out in the hall of Juneja mansion to bid goodbyes to the whole family. And of course, Meher followed them to the hall looking like a tomato still.
Later That Day
'Meher! Meher!' Preet hollered around the hallways only to find his wife making the bed in their bedroom.
'Why are you making the bed at 3PM in the afternoon?', asked a puzzled Preet.
'Because clearly you, Mr. Preet Juenja, has made a mess out of it while doing your office work from home', Meher remarked.
'Oh! hehe, my bad. Tum ladkiyan bhi naa, kabhi toh thoda messy rehne do (Oh you girls, let things be a little messy at times you know?)', replied Preet in a making up voice to which Meher just nodded her head in disappointment.
'Meher, what is your plan for today?', Preet asked trying to muster up his courage.
'Plan? Kaisa plan Preet? (What plan Preet?)', asked a confused Meher.
Preet took few steps closer to Meher, before taking her hand in his, 'You know, there can be so many plans for today. Like Kulraaj di accompanied Kiran Jeeju on a business/romantic tour, PB and Heer bhabi are out on a trip too, do you have something planned for yourself as well?', Preet regretted the word yourself as soon as it escaped his mouth. 'Way to go Preet Juneja, way to ask your wife out on Valentines day romantically', he thought to himself.
'Nehi Preet, mera aisa koyi plan nehi. Tumhara koyi hain plan apne liye? (No Preet, I don't have any such plan, do you have any plan for yourself)', Meher asked innocently smiling.
'Hmm, lets see', Preet, tightening the grip of his hold a slight on Meher's hand was about to say something when Lalit Juneja entered their room making Preet and Meher go into distance into nano seconds.
'Preet, jara dekh to ye TV ke remote ko kiya hua, TV se connect hi nehi ho raha. Teri maa ko aur mujhe TV dekhna tha (Preet would you take a look at this remote, its not connecting to the TV at all, your mother and I wanted to watch TV) ', Lalit handed out the remote to Preet.
'Yaha main apni biwi se finally connection bana ne ki koshish kar raha hoon aur ye chaandni hain, inko TV ka connection chahiye' (Here I am finally trying to make connection with my wife and this chandni, he wants the connection of TV), Preet murmured under his breath.
'Kuch kaha tune Preet? (Did you say anything Preet?)', asked Lalit confused.
No, ab chaliye (Now lets go), let me fix the TV and remote's connection', Preet answered dragging his father out of his room.
That Evening
Finally hitting on a idea, Preet walked up to the kitchen, thinking maybe he could tell Meher his feelings while helping her cook something. Much to his amusement, he found freshly baked heart shaped cookies on the kitchen counter. Breaking into a big smile he thought to himself , 'Looks like my hatti gatti Punjaban wants to confess herself today'. And while Preet could hardly get a grip on his excitement, Meher walked in to the kitchen.
'Arreh Preet, glad you are here. Can you taste one of these cookies and tell me how are these? I want these to be perfect for them', Meher asked sweetly.
'Yeah sure, whatever you will make for me will be per...Oh wait, them?! Who are these cookies for?!', questioned an embarrassed and confused Preet.
'These are for Maa Bauji and the kids Preet. I thought to make the Valentines day a little bit special for Maa and Bauji. Also I wanted to let the kids know how much their Meher Maami loves them, after all Valentines day can be expressed for any kind of love right? Love is love.', Meher answered happily while getting a plate for the cookies.
'Yeah love is love and these taste great', replied an unhappy Preet, faking a smile and taking another bite of the delicious cookies.
Later That Night
Meher walked into their bedroom, only to find the quilt spread out on the bed, Preet's laptop being set on it and a bowl of popcorn was kept on the side of the laptop. Within a few minutes, Meher understood what was the case. At least that was what she thought.
'Preet? Preet? Are you planning on watching a movie tonight? Bad idea, I must say', Meher spoke in a slight louder voice as Preet was in the washroom.
'What happened Meher?! What is now with the movie?!', came out a very irritated looking Preet while wiping his face with the towel.
'Have you forgotten, you have to drop Kul di's kids to school before you go to office tomorrow. You can watch the movie sometime later, you need to sleep now', Meher reminded Preet, guessing he had forgotten about the school thing.
'I know Meher and this arrangement is not only for me, it is for us. We have not done anything today', Preet smiled.
'Us?! What is special with today for us?!', Meher was puzzled.
'Don't you think we owe this to the day? Also I have picked DDLJ, your favourite', Preet sat on the bed, pulling Meher beside him facing the laptop.
'Look Preet, I don't know what you are talking about. And as alluring as DDLJ is sounding, I can't take that risk on a school night of the kids. Your sleep is a disaster', Meher reasoned.
'Shhh!', Preet put his finger on Meher's lips to shush her. 'It is Valentines day Meher. At least we owe each other this right?', Preet said tucking one of Meher's hair strands behind her ear.
'Par Preet, hum toh.... (But Preet, we are only....), Meher tried to reply but couldn't complete as Preet came closer and cupped her face.
'Best friends hain? Haa woh hamesha hi rahenge (We are best friends? Yes, we will be that always). But can't we be a little more something?', the husky voice of Preet got Meher into a daze. And as Preet started caving in, Meher's heartbeat grew faster. When Preet came just a few inches away, Meher realised what was about to happen and she immediately looked away blushing, putting her head onto Preet's chest right after that.
Hugging him tight, she blabbered, 'Preet, start the movie now, jaldi uthna bhi to hain (Have to wake up early)'.
Preet just smiled and held Meher tightly in his arms, planting a kiss on her head, 'We surely do Meher, we surely do.'
