Chapter 28 - Don't Want to Let Go of You
Meher tried to break free from the iron clad grip Preet had on her wrist. "Let me go," she protested to no avail. It wasn't until they had reached a secluded corner of the banquet hall behind some curtains that he came to a stop and let her go.
"What is wrong with you? Why have you brought me here?" Meher demanded. Her eyes widened as Preet took a step towards her. She took several steps away from him only to find herself backed up against the wall. "If...If you try...to...to kiss me again, I'll...I'll...scream," she stammered.
"Really?" said Preet. He hadn't intended to kiss her, but didn't bother to correct her misgivings either. "I don't remember you screaming the last time I kissed you. In fact I'm willing to wager that you'll melt in my arms...just like the last time."
It was true. Each time he had kissed her, all sense of reasoning evaded her and she had turned into a pile of mush. The memory made a tight knot of sensation in Meher's stomach. She pushed it away angrily. "Well it's...uh...kind of difficult to scream when you've got a mouth full of..."
"A mouth full of...?" smiled Preet.
"I will do it this time though," insisted Meher. "You try anything...and I mean anything, and I swear I'll scream the place down. "
"No you won't," smiled Preet.
Meher frowned. She shook her head and was about to walk away, when he shot out a hand, grabbed her wrist and jerked her against him. He held her pinned like that for a moment as if giving her a chance to carry out her threat. First surprise, then anger flashed in her eyes, but she remained quiet. "Preet...please," she finally whispered after an awkward silence. "Let me go."
As if her words had suddenly woken him up from a trance, Preet released her. He cleared his throat and straightened his clothes. "I'm sorry Meher," he said softening his tone. "I don't know what happens to me when I'm around you. You...you make me forget myself. Look...I just wanted to talk. It's been a crazy night. Everything's gone wrong. I'm still trying to make sense of it all but I just can't."
"Not everything has to make sense Preet," said Meher. "Sometimes you just have to accept things."
"Like you accepting Viren's proposal, because Daljeet Rampal convinced you it was best for everyone," said Preet. "Meher I'm not going to marry Ash, just to save my dad's business, so you don't have to do this."
"I...uh...I don't know what you're talking about," lied Meher. "And you're engaged now, so you have to marry Ashlesha." From his expression, she could see her words had made him grow upset again. "I...uh...I should get back to the party, before someone notices that I'm gone."
"Someone? You mean Goldilocks? That anxious to get back into his arms are you?" Preet taunted her.
"What are you talking about?" said Meher.
"You barely know the guy yet you were letting him put his hands all over you," Preet said accusingly. "You know how I feel about you Meher...did you even once stop to think what I was going through, watching you 2 like that?"
"Oh that's rich coming from you!" Meher snapped back. "First you kiss me like there's no tomorrow, then you make a spectacle of yourself with Ashlesha on the dance floor."
"Oh...so you noticed," grinned Preet.
"Someone would have to be blind not to notice!" cried Meher.
"Aur tumhe bura laga (And you didn't like that)?" asked Preet.
"Of course!" cried Meher. "Not!" She quickly corrected herself. "I mean...of course not...of course not." She repeated the words for emphasis, but the smile tugging at the corners of Preet's mouth told her it was too late. He knew she was lying. He could read her so well. Where was a hole in the ground you could crawl into when you needed one?! "What you do with your fiance is none of my business. Mujhe kyun bura lage ga (Why would I mind it)?"
"Because you love me," Preet said as if he was stating a matter of fact.
"Stop saying that!" said Meher.
"Why?" asked Preet.
"Because it's...it isn't true," said Meher.
"Meher...," smiled Preet. "You've never been a good liar."
"Ugh! You're incorrigible!" cried Meher, as she started to leave.
"Tell Chaddi I said to keep his hands to himself," said Preet.
"For the last time...it's Chadda!" Meher snapped back. "We were just dancing. And if it bothers you so much, then don't look!"
As she tried to walk past him, Preet reached out one arm, blocking her path. His other hand closed around hers and gently tugged her towards him. He heard her catch her breath in a little gasp as he closed the distance between them. He waited for her to protest his actions, but she made no other sound.
"You didn't think I was going to let you go that easily, did you?" Preet smiled softly. Her eyes were enormous as she met his gaze. "I'm in love with you Meher. I took forever to admit this to you and myself. That was a mistake, and I'm not about to make another one. I just...can't...I can't let you go."
Meher clutched Preet's arms to retain her balance, as he drew her closer to him. Her heart raced and she closed her eyes as he cupped her face with his hand, and gently caressed her cheek with his thumb. If he kissed her now, she was sure she would pass out. But the kiss never came. Voices could be heard coming towards them. "Looks like we have company," whispered Preet.
Meher quickly slipped out of his grip and straightened herself out, just as Sam and Gaurav appeared.
"There you are," said Garurav. "Sam and I have been looking all over for you two. I mean, we saw you 2 dancing together and the next thing we know you guys disappeared." He glanced from Preet to Meher. "Uh...is everything okay? We didn't interrupt anything did we?"
Preet threw a peeved look in his direction, as if he was mentally banishing the couple to the South Pole.
"Uh...actually, Meher, your family is looking for you," said Sam. "I think Viren and his parents are leaving."
"Right," nodded Meher. "Thanks for coming to get me Sam." Without turning to look back at Preet, she quickly made her way back to the banquet hall. Preet thought for a minute then headed after her.
"Is it just me or can you almost feel the zap of electricity between these two?" remarked Sam.
Moments later...
Preet was chatting up a storm with Meher's family as she stood by with a fake smile plastered to her face.
"I can't believe you all are leaving the party so soon," said Preet.
"Well, I do have to have to get back to Ludhiana Sir," said Balraj Maan. "It's a five hour drive back and we have to leave first thing in the morning."
"Still calling me Sir, Mr. Maan," frowned Preet. "Please...call me Preet. Ab toh bahuat jald rishta jurdne wala hai hamara (We're going to become related very soon)."
Meher looked up at him in surprise. She found him smiling at her and turned her gaze away. She understood very well the double meaning behind his words, even if her parents didn't. She stole a glance at him again and found that he was still staring at her. He just kept looking at her until the color crawled into her cheeks, her mouth went dry and her brain turned to mush. Confusion paralyzed her. Ugh! Why is he staring at me like that? That too in front of Papa Ji and Kuljeet! Why does he have to be so blatantly obvious about his feelings?
"Ah! He's absolutely right you know," Kuljeet smiled. "After all I am Ashlesha's maternal aunt. Such a happy night it was tonight. You and your sister looked wonderful on stage. But I have to say humari Meher bhi kisi se kam nahin thi (our Meher was no less than anyone)."
"I agree," said Preet. "She looked absolutely..."
"...stunning," a voice called out from behind him.
Preet's face tightened as he saw Viren and his parents come stand next to Meher.
"Ah Viren puttar (son)," smiled Kuljeet. "I was wondering where you were. We couldn't leave without saying goodbye to you now could we?"
"No, of course not, Auntie Ji...or shall I call you Mummy Ji now?" smiled Viren. "Oh Preet, let me introduce you to my parents..."
"Yes, of course," Preet mustered up a smile. "You must be the Chaddis...I mean the Chaddas. I mean, Viren's parents. It's very nice to meet you."
"See Mummy Ji, Daddy Ji," smiled Viren. "I'm on a first name basis with the Junejas. His mother smiled and nodded, while his father shook hands with Preet.
"Well...I was just about to say to Mr. and Mrs. Maan, that I hope you all had a good time tonight," said Preet.
"Of course Ji," smiled Viren's mother. "Inni soni jaga hai tadi (You have such a beautiful place here). Te inni soni nooh mili hai sanu (And we're blessed with such a beautiful daughter-in-law). Te kharcha vi sara Mrs. Rampal ne chuk lita (And Mrs. Rampal paid for everything). Hore ki chayida si sanu (What more could we ask for)?"
"Uh...right," said Preet. "So Viren...we're still on for Tuesday night aren't we?"
"Of course," smiled Viren.
"What's on Tuesday night?" asked Kuljeet.
"The Junejas have invited Meher and I for dinner," explained Viren.
"And I told them we couldn't go," Meher added quickly. "You heard Papa Ji, he has to get back to Ludhiana."
"But you can stay can't you Meher?" Viren asked hopefully. "We hardly got a chance to spend any time together."
"Aw...poor guy," Preet said with fake sympathy as he placed a hand on Viren's shoulder. "He didn't get to spend enough time with you. He'll be heartbroken if you don't stay. We can't have that happening now can we Mrs. Maan?"
"Oh my Rabs no!" cried Kuljeet. "Viren puttar, don't you worry about a thing. Meher will stay right here in Delhi for as long as you like."
"Kuljeet, what are you saying?" said Balraj.
"Oh come now Balraj, don't be such a fuddy duddy," Kuljeet chided him. "They're engaged. It's only right that they get a chance to know each other better. Meher can stay with her friend Simran, or better yet, she can continue staying with my sister. I'm sure Daljeet wouldn't mind. Tum na Meher ghar ke kaam kaj mein unko help kardena (just help them around the house a bit Meher). And Ashlesha...she enjoys your company anyway.
"But Kuljeet Ma...," protested Meher.
"Bas (enough)," said Kuljeet. "We don't want to disappoint Viren now do we?" She pulled Meher closer and whispered in her ear. "Good marriage proposals don't grow on trees. Keep the boy happy and we'll all be happy, understand?"
Meher shot a dagger with her eyes at Preet, but he ignored her. "So, it's settled then," he smiled at Viren. "Give me your number and I'll check with the others and send you the details of time and place.""
Viren nodded and the 2 young men quickly exchanged phone numbers. The families then took Preet's leave and headed out the hotel, with Viren and Meher straggling slightly behind. Before parting ways, Viren looked around to make sure their parents weren't looking, took Meher's hand in his and kissed it. Her face immediately turned red, and she quickly pulled her hand back.
"Viren," she gasped. "My parents our right in front of us."
"Sorry Meher," smiled Viren. "I couldn't help myself. I'm just so happy, I could explode. Don't worry, they didn't see us."
Meher closed her eyes briefly and sighed. Her face showed clear signs of discomfort. How could she not worry? She knew her parents had not see them, but she knew that Preet was watching her from a distance. His piercing gaze was boring a hole down her neck. Any attention Viren showered on her would only anger him and make him more determined.
Meher was right. Preet had seen Viren kiss her hand. With a scowl on his face, he angrily turned to go and bumped into Heer, almost knocking her over.
"Preet! Kya kar rahe ho (what are you doing)? said Heer. She placed a protective hand on her stomach.
"Oops! Sorry Bhabi," sighed Preet. "I didn't see you coming."
The grim look on his face told Heer everything. She looked over his shoulder, and saw Meher and Viren leaving together. "Preet, I'm so sorry about everything. Is there anything I can do to help?"
"There isn't anything anyone can do Bhabi," sighed Preet. "If you'll excuse me, I just want to be left alone."
Later that night back at the Juneja Mansion...
"How could you do it Prem?!" demanded Heer. "How could you?"
"Come on Heer, I was't the only one who knew about tonight," said Prem. "It isn't fair to blame me for everything."
"Not fair?!" cried Heer. "I'll tell you what's not fair. Preet got engaged tonight...to the wrong girl! That's not fair! You knew all about it and forgot to tell me...your wife! That's not fair! How could you keep such a big thing from me?!"
"I didn't know things were going to go that far Heer, I swear!" pleaded Prem. "You see we only planned..."
"So you admit that you knew something was going to happen," Heer raised a finger accusingly at him. "Who else was in on it?"
"Bauji, Herman...Maya...," said Prem.
"Maya knew?!" cried Heer. "You mean Herman shared this with Maya, but you didn't feel the need to share anything with me. I mean, I'm only your wife, right! Poor Preet."
"Believe it or not Preet agreed too...well...to the announcement part at least...," sighed Prem. "We had only planned that much."
"It doesn't matter what you planned Prem," Heer shook her head. "Everything quickly spun out of your control. I wouldn't be surprised if Maya and her new best friend Daljeet Rampal had the whole thing set up from the very beginning. With all the guests and reporters there, we couldn't even do anything."
"I'm afraid not," sighed Prem.
"If only you had told me," said Heer. "This was supposed to me a special night Prem. I thought Veera would get engaged and then...I'd tell everyone that..."
"See, this is exactly the reason I didn't tell you," said Prem. "Whether it's Chahat, Preet or Veera...your motherly instincts kick in and you get all crazy and overprotective."
Heer's mouth fell open. "Crazy and overprotective?!" She cried. She walked over to the bed, picked up a pillow and stuffed it in Prem's hands. "That's it Prem Juneja! Until further notice, you are moving into the guest room!"
"But Heer!" protested Prem.
"No buts!" said Heer. "We can't have you sleeping with a crazy and overprotective woman now can we! Why, I might smother you in your sleep!" She nudged him out the door and when he tried to turn back and say something to her, she promptly shut the door on his face.
Prem stood for moment in the hall outside his bedroom staring blankly at the door, then slowly dragged his feet to the guest room. He was making his bed for the night when Preet passed by.
"Hey PB, what are you doing in the guest room?" asked Preet.
"I'm being punished," sighed Prem. "For my part in tonight's fiasco. But Preet, I swear I didn't know things were going to go that far, otherwise I would never have asked you to agree to anything."
"I know," sighed Preet. "I guess we both got screwed royally. But don't you worry about a thing. You know HB...she can't stay mad at you for long. I'm sure she'll be fine in the morning."
"Maybe," said Prem. "But I'm still sorry."
"It's okay Bhaiya," said Preet. "It was an engagement. No one is married yet."
"What do you mean?" asked Prem.
"I mean, we needed to buy some time and we got that," said Preet. "Now we just need to find out what the Rampals are up to and if they are committing some kind of fraud. I'm sure once we find some evidence against them Bauji will call off everything himself."
"Yeah...you're right," agreed Prem. "We need to focus all our energies on getting some kind of information against the Rampals. Still...I wish things had turned out differently this evening. But hey, you know what really took me by surprise...Meher. I didn't know she was going to get engaged to someone else. I guess you were wrong about her after all."
Preet didn't comment.
"Well," Prem said as he fluffed up his pillow. "I guess I'll see you in the morning."
Preet nodded quietly and headed for his own room. There he found Heer impatiently pacing back and forth mumbling to herself. Dressed in her pajamas and puffy pink bunny slippers, the sight would ordinarily be quite amusing but Preet knew she was upset.
"Heer Bhabi?" Preet said in surprise. "What are you doing here? And why is PB...?"
"Tumhare PB ke saat toh main deal kar chuki hoon (I've already dealt with your PB). Now it's your turn," cried Heer. She took him by the ear and walked him over to the center of his room.
"Ow! Ow! Ow!" cried Preet. "Come on Bhabi, I'm not a little kid anymore."
"Oh really," cried Heer as she folded her arms across her chest. "What do you think you were doing tonight? Hain?"
"What did I do wrong now?" Asked Preet.
"Well, let's see where should I start?" said Heer. "You got engaged to Ashlesha Rampal, when you're in love with Meher for one thing."
"That was not supposed to happen," said Preet.
"But it did!" Heer pointed out. "And then Meher went and got engaged to someone else!"
"That definitely wasn't supposed to happen," sighed Preet.
"But it did!" said Heer. "And your behavior at the party afterwards..."
"What was wrong with my behavior?" asked Preet. "I smiled pretty for the cameras...shook hands and made small talk with all of Bauji's important clients..."
"I...I saw you drag Meher out to the garden," said Heer.
"You did?" Preet asked in surprise.
"Yes, I did," said Heer.
"And what else did you see?" Preet asked worriedly.
"What do you mean?" demanded Heer. "I didn't follow you outside, I was busy with the guests. Why? What did you do?"
"Nothing," cried Preet. "We went out to talk."
"Well you shouldn't have," said Heer. "I mean, if I saw you 2, God knows who else did too."
"Heer Bhabi relax. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill," insisted Preet. "You saw us because you were looking out for us. No one else was."
"You don't know that," said Heer. "I mean, what if Daljeet Rampal or Bauji had followed you guys outside? What if some photographer hid behind the bushes and secretly took pictures? We won't know until the paper comes in the morning. We don't need more trouble Preet."
"I wasn't trying to make any trouble for us," said Preet.
"And what about for Meher?" asked Heer. "I don't know what you 2 did outside or what you said to her, but she looked really upset when she came back in. And then you spent the entire evening following her every move with your eyes. Do you have any idea how wrong that is? She's engaged to someone else now Preet. Someone else!" She repeated the words for emphasis, but Preet only rolled his eyes.
"Look Preet," sighed Heer. "Whatever happened between you 2 is in the past now. She has clearly drawn the line and it's over."
"It's not over Bhabi," Preet shot back. "Meher got engaged, not married. Engagements get broken all the time and so will this one."
"Have you gone mad Preet?" said Heer. "Are you seriously trying to ruin that poor girl's life?"
"That's just it Bhabi, I'm not trying to ruin it, I'm trying to save it," said Preet. "Meher got engaged to Viren so I would be left with no choice but to marry Ash. She's still sacrificing herself to save this family."
"You don't know that," said Heer.
"Come on Bhabi," said Preet. "You're the one who told me that girls are like apples story."
"I did, didn't I?" sighed Heer. "But that was before she got engaged. Now, I just don't know."
"Oh but I do know. I know Meher," smiled Preet. "It's just the kind of thing she would do. She may say she doesn't love me, but her eyes tell a very different story. I won't let her marry anyone else. I won't let her make that mistake."
"You really have gone crazy haven't you?" sighed Heer.
"Not crazy Bhabi, I'm in love," Preet corrected her. "I've never wanted anyone more than I want Meher, and I'm not about to let her go. Not without a fight."
"But she's engaged to someone else now Preet!" said Heer.
"So what?" cried Preet. "What do you want me to do Bhabi? Pretend like I'm fine with it when I'm not. Have feelings for her, but pretend like I don't and look the other way. I'm sorry, I can't do that. I'm just not that good of an actor. I thought you of all people would understand, after all, you were in a similar predicament once."
Heer looked up in surprise.
"PB told me how you were also going to get married to someone else, because you were doing what you thought was expected of you," Preet reminded her. "What if he had given up on you? What if Ma hadn't been able to convince your parents?"
"I shudder to think," sighed Heer.
"Well...Meher and I are in a similar boat," sighed Preet. "With the added bonus of bankruptcy hanging over our head, and no Ma to help us out. He sat down on his bed and rubbed his temples with his fingers."
Heer sat down next to him and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We sure are in a pickle, aren't we?" There was a moment of silence, before she spoke up again. "So...what's he like?" she asked.
"Who?" said Preet.
"Meher's fiance," said Heer. "The competition."
"You mean Viru?" Preet shrugged his shoulder. "I don't know. He's just some guy."
"Some guy?" said Heer. "That doesn't tell me anything about what you're up against."
"Well, what do you want to know?" asked Preet.
"Did you speak to him?" asked Heer. "I was so stunned with everything going on that I didn't manage to get more than a brief glimpse of the guy. He seemed nice enough though."
"Nice?!" said Preet. "He's average. Average height, average built, average looks...just average."
"Oookay...," said Heer. "Um...If I recall correctly, Daljeet mentioned that he was a doctor."
"So? So what if he's a doctor?" frowned Preet. "I mean, what's so great about that? Sari ladkiya siraf doctor se shaadi karna chahti hain kya (Are girls only looking to get married to a doctor)? You married a businessman and you're happy, right?"
"Preet, I'm just trying to find out if the man has any weak points." Heer chuckled at his jealous remarks. "So...uh...what was his personality like? Strong silent type with nimble hands?"
"I won't know how strong he is until I get a chance to deck him," Preet smiled at the thought.
"Preet!" cried Heer.
"He definitely wasn't the silent type," continued Preet. "In fact, he couldn't stop talking about his favorite subject...himself. He didn't think twice before pointing out that we were all born with silver spoons in our mouths while he was a self-made man and all. When people have nothing to say they talk about the weather...but not our little Viru. He was too busy pricing everything...dress costs, hotel costs, catering cost, and the cost of his stupid $600 Italian leather shoes. He was flaunting them as if we should be impressed by them. Ha! As if he's the only one who has designer shoes in his closet. As for his hands...they were all over Meher."
"Or were you imagining that they were?" smiled Heer.
"No no, I mean it. He was all over her," insisted Preet. "And just before they left, he...he kissed her..."
"No!" gasped Heer.
"...on the hand," frowned Preet.
"Oh," sighed Heer.
"Dil toh kar raha tha ke uska ja ke moon todh doon (I felt like breaking his jaw)," Preet said through gritted teeth.
"Hmm," chuckled Heer. "Okay, what's your plan, and what can I do to help?"
"What?" Preet asked in surprise.
"You said youself, Meher is engaged not married," said Heer. "So, how do you plan on stopping her from making the biggest mistake of her life?"
Preet grew silent. "I'm not really sure," he sighed. "But I'll figure something out."
"Well, my offer still stands," Heer said, as she got up to go. "I don't want you to think you're alone in this. If you need me to do anything, just let me know."
"Thanks Bhabi, I really appreciate it," smiled Preet. "And thanks...for listening."
"Hey, I'm you're HB, remember? It's what I'm here for," smiled Heer. "Now get some rest."
"Uh...Heer Bhabi," Preet stopped her. "There is something you can do for me. Prem Bhaiya is feeling pretty miserable all alone in that guest room...and he really isn't to blame for anything you know. And...I think..."
"Say no more," Heer smiled and raised a hand to stop him. "Good night Preet."
"Good night Bhabi," smiled Preet.
A shortwhile later...
Heer stood smiling by the bed in the guest room as she watched Prem sleep. She picked up a pillow and playfully whacked him with it.
"Huhn?! Who?! What?!" cried Prem. He sat up startled only to find Heer standing by the bed breaking out into a fit of laughter. "Heer?"
"You should have seen the look on your face," laughed Heer.
"You think this is funny?" frowned Prem. "It's bad enough you threw me out of our room, now you won't even let me sleep."
"Move over," smiled Heer.
"What?" said Prem.
"You heard me, scoot over," said Heer.
Prem thought for a moment then scooted over to one side to make room for her. She pushed him back, then lay down next to him using his arm as a pillow. "I thought you were mad at me," he said.
"I was, but...um...I had a little chat with Preet," explained Heer. "He made me realize that what happened tonight wasn't anyone's fault."
"Good old Preet," chuckled Prem.
"He's not giving up on Meher, you know. Not without a fight," said Heer.
"I expected as much," said Prem.
"You know both of you brothers are so much alike," remarked Heer. "I told him we'd help in any way that we could."
"Of course," agreed Prem.
"That still doesn't mean you can keep things from me, alright?" said Heer.
"Alright, I promise I won't do it again." Prem smiled and kissed her on the top of her head. "Um...Heer...why are we still in the guest room? Why don't we go back to our room?"
"It's okay, I'm comfortable here," said Heer, as she stifled a yawn. "Sometimes change is good. We can pretend like I'm with you on some business conference and we've checked into a hotel for the night."
"Ooo...checked into a hotel for the night...with the woman of my dreams...," Prem grinned mischievously. He pulled her closer and planted a kiss on her lips, then ran his hands under her night-shirt until they rested on her warm back. "You know if that is the case, then sleep is the last thing I intend to do."
"Prem!" giggled Heer as he planted soft butterfly kisses down her neck. "Acha sunno, I had to tell you something."
"Later," Prem whispered into her ear.
"No, it's important and I might forget later," insisted Heer.
Prem exhaled loudly. His wife always chose the most awkward time to have a conversation. "Okay, but make it quick."
"I...uh...I want you to pick up some pistachio ice cream and pickles for me on your way home from work tomorrow," said Heer.
"Is that all?" asked Prem.
Heer nodded.
"Okay, done. Now...where were we...?" smiled Prem as he pulled her against his body and found her lips again. Suddenly his eyes flew open wide and he sat up with bolt. "Heer! What did you just tell me?"
"What?" Heer asked innocently.
"P...P...Pistachio ice cream and pickles!" cried Prem.
"Yes, I was having a craving for some," explained Heer.
"You remember the last time you had a craving for pistachio ice cream and pickles? We were expecting Chahat," Prem reminded her excitedly.
"I know," smiled Heer.
"You mean you're...I mean, we...?" asked Prem. "Main...main phir se baap banne wala hoon (I'm going to be a father again)?
Heer sat up, smiled and patted her tummy.
Prem jumped out the bed and pulled his robe on.
"Arey! Tum kahan ja rahe ho (Where are you going)?" asked Heer.
"To tell everyone the amazing news!" Prem said excitedly.
"Prem, everyone is asleep right now," Heer reminded him. "We'll tell them in the morning, I promise. In the meantime...you're still in a hotel room with the woman of your dreams..."
Meanwhile...
Meher...Meher...Meher... Preet lay awake in his bed as thoughts of Meher consumed him. The way she looked tonight. The soft scent of lilacs that always emenated from her. The way she nervously bit her lower lip. The melting softness of her body when he kissed those same lips.
Suddenly a vision of Viren holding her as they danced clouded his thoughts. He sat up grabbed a pillow and tossed it angrily across the room. A scowl appeared on his face. For the first time in his life, he was jealous. Jealous and too confused to be able to figure out what he should do next.
