"I am from a small village called Bhagalpur in Bihar, jahan electricity bhi nahi thi. Diya jalake humne wahan padhayi kari hai. People call me a mehnati guy today and I credit my village life for that. We were brought up that way. Mehnat karna humaare khoon mein hai. People in the industry still don't believe that I am from a small village," he says.
BROTHERLY ACT So does he visit his hometown regularly? "Oh yes, I keep visiting Bihar frequently. But I keep a very low profile there after an unfortunate incident happened on one of my visits. I remember I wasn't able to attend my brother's wedding, as the moment I reached the venue for the wedding, there was a stampede and people started running to meet me and shaadi ka mandap bhi toot gaya. Shaadi rokni padi thi. Everybody was like, ki agar Gurmeet mandap mein rahega toh shaadi nahi ho payegi. So, I sat inside the house and saw the wedding from the window."

I got the tag of a romantic hero from that serial and people loved me for my role. And I was not that keen on doing the show, as it was supposed to be aired on a channel which was not doing too well. But my wife Debina forced me to do Geet... And I have no regrets."
SHOCKED WITH NACH BALIYE RESULTS Gurmeet participated in the recent season of the dance reality show Nach Baliye with wife Debina, where they were the first runners up. However, Gurmeet says he didn't expect to not win the show. "I was shocked to hear the Nach Baliye results. Debina and I promised each other that we will give our best on the show and we did. We came up with some really out of the box acts and everyone thought we wou-ld win. While shooting in Cape-town recently, a family came up to me, who had seen the dance show, and congratulated me on winning it. I told them I wasn't the winner, but they were like, 'Humaari nazron mein toh you were the winner.'"
BOLLYWOOD CALLING Gurmeet, whose last fiction show was Punar Vivaah, seems to have taken a break from serials. "Offers keep coming, but TV ab bahut kar liya hai. It is not that I am averse to TV offers, but I will only do something very interesting. My main focus is Bollywood right now. I have reserved all my time now for movie directors and producers," he says.
